Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
Just my personal feelings....I wonder if they saw something Chad was doing or not doing even though we had a full week of how well he performed and shined on the O-line. We even heard how they were able to run to the right most of the Tampa game. Now this.
I presume the putting MW in the Guard position is to get him a little regular season game play where he really can't screw up a whole lot then maybe next week move him to RT. For whatever reason I thought I kept hearing how Heyer was having difficulty at RT still. Maybe they will move Heyer to Guard after moving MW to RT. Just a thought. |

Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
Questions we run to the left mostly so doesn't the RG pull to the left? Is Williams going to be successful as a pulling guard? Did he practice this week with first team offense as a RG?

Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
If this is true, I would really, really like to know WHY?
Another reason why we should draft a O-lineman next year
The entire 2010 draft will comprise o-linemen only. It had been said from the start of the reguilar season that some wanted to see Williams replace Hyer at some point, but this move is surprising. |
Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
Could this be all at once and indictment and exoneration of Vinny? Bust of a draft pick but uncovering a diamond in the rough. Nah, but it doesn't bode well for Rhino to get benched after 2 starts. If this was coming, I wonder if Williams was running with the ones all week in practice.
** UPDATE ** From Washington Times 360: Apparently, Williams took all the first-team reps during practice this week. The media isn't allowed to watch any team drills after training camp ends which is how those of us, who aren't paid by the team , missed this scoop. Rinehart, a third-round pick in 2008, had never played before the Detroit game on Sept. 27 but seemed to play decently in his two starts in place of Randy Thomas, who's out for the year with a torn triceps. Williams, 29, weighed 415 pounds when the Redskins signed him on a flyer on April 24 with the intention of him pushing Stephon Heyer at the right tackle, held by Jon Jansen for most of the previous decade. Chosen fourth in the 2002 draft by Buffalo, Williams lost about 80 pounds, but he was unable to stay on the field during training camp because of nagging injuries. He hasn't played a regular season game since Nov. 27, 2005. BTW, Rhino is INACTIVE today. Wow. |
Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
This could be fun to watch, maybe the ground pounding up the gut running we need, MW may be able to push people back instead of watching our line sit in JC lap. GO SKINS!!!
Hasn't Reinhardt played well on the runs? I thought they were having "success" running to the right
Yeah, according to GTripp's offensive breakdown, we officially run better to the right now, largely because of Rinehart. Apparently the Skins and Tripp aren't on the same page. Or maybe it's a pass blocking issue. Either way, to have a guy start one week and benched the next for a dude playing out of position who hasn't started a game in 3 or 4 years is not positive. In fact, I just got a text from WashPost saying Rinehart is inactive. WTF? Is he so one dimensional that if he's not starting at RG he is of no value whatsoever? |

Thanks...to many Sherman's to keep track : ) I also have a proclivity to address people with different names : ) |
Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
Talk about a head scratcher!!! I'd like to hear the insiders around here weigh in on this one. I mean Rinehart was doing very well against the run. Obviously he would struggle in pass-pro for a while but that's expected.
...the funny thing is a started wondering about Mike Williams this week! We heard so much progress in pre-season and then nothing once the line-up was set. I really, really hope he is a great big awesome surprise today!!! |
Re: Mike Williams Starting vs Carolina?
I'll take 'unexpected personal matter" as a good excuse for this last minute switch.

Yeah...if he was exceptional at run blocking we could use that because Carolina has the worst run denfense in the league right now. We should expect the SKins to run a ton against them. Why would we switch him out if he was capable against the run? To say the least I believe it's an indictment against Reinhart to go from starter to inactive in a flash...strange things abrewin' around Skinsland. And to announce that big move 2 hours before gametime???...strange stuff. |
