Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
No, we shouldn't sign Porter!

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
We do not need any part of Joey Porter. We need to be getting younger...not older.
|
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
I take him for a small one year deal, to teach us the 3-4 and give us a fiesty ness on defense, but I don't care if he doesn't come here.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Im with Die Nasty here. He cant hurt, and Im sure if we switch to a 34, he might be able to teach Orakpo some tips on the position. But if he starts any shit, or gets into any trouble, his ass is on the curb with no money. Gotta get that in his contract, or no dealio.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
So do the people that want a whole bunch of young guys realize that the only players we're going to be able to get as UFAs are going to be in their 30s? A lot of young and good free agents are going to be RFAs.
That being said, Porter will likely get cut by Miami and it would not be a bad pick up for cheap. |

I'm with some others here in indicating that we might want to embrace a few geriatrics. Our roster is so thin in places that we will need such help, to add depth if nothing else. As long as they are signed to short contracts and not projected as long-term starters, there is no problem. We can get younger with progressive offseasons. Can anyone disagree with the point that a still-capable 31-year-old offensive lineman (or two) might have come in handy last year? |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Porter is an a**hole. No need to bring him in.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Why would you want to give up a draft pick for an over the hill guy? We need to get over the over reliance on free agency if we are going to change things, or more accurately, to get smarter with FA acquisitions. Who knows, our 6th round pick might end up being the next Ken Harvey or Darrell Green. Porter has pretty much shot his bolt.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
i'd rather have rolando mcclain or brandon spikes...maybe not spikes unless it's in the 4th round.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
no thanks. we dont need any more prima donnas or over the hill players. pass.

I def wasn't suggesting that we trade for him/give up any picks especially if he's cut... |
Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
If he's cut why not give him a look? He's still a very productive player.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
no way people. He is 33! not that its too old to play, but why must we be the ones to overpay for overaged players. We have moved past that strategy and will hopefully find young talent in the draft. question could be made for depth, but he doesn't want to be a part-time player. He has said he will not be anything but a starter. We have LB depth. Chris Wilson, I think can be a very good OLB in the 3-4 set. He is quick, and can rush the passer. McIntosh could be/should be moved inside with London and keep Orakpo, Wilson, Carter on the OLB spot. Could even play Carter at DE and mix it up from time to time.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
I don't have a problem with bringing him in. If they want to go to a 3-4 it always helps to bring in some older players who know the defense. Every team adds players like this at the begining of a new regime. However, I am talking about as a free agent...I would not give a draft pick for him.

Re: Dolphins likely to cut Porter before March
Any particular reason he wants to leave Miami? I thought he was doing well there.
