Mayock is a great analyst...But im not feelin his opinion here...

Okung should still be our target.

49ers could be our trading partner, they like Okung.

Re: Mayock Thinks Redskins Could Pass on Okung...

No way would I want T.Williams at 4 or 14. Complete Right Tackle prospect, he has athleticism, but too many questions about him to lock down the left side. Phil Loadholt was a far superior LT at Oklahoma, and he can't handle the LT spot in Minnesota. Trent completely whiffed on the inside blitz that ruined Bradford's shoulder, and had several mediocre games last year. He was a dominating RT in his junior year, but struggled at LT as a senior.
There are questions about his level of commitment and focus that should draw concern. His freak combine has elevated him far more then his film justifies. Same with B.Campbell, don't buy the hype. Campbell and Williams in the 20s; ok, but no way in the top 10. Workout warriors without solid game film are huge risks.

A) Okung IS the best Tackle in the draft
B) There is a reason why we want it known to all the teams, media, and fans that we visited with Sam Bradford, Eric Berry, Colt McCoy, and Tim Tebow, yet Okung's visit was kept quiet...Can you say the other guys are used as smoke screens to get the real guy we want who we're trying to not let other teams know we like him
C) Trent Williams played very very little left tackle in college whereas Okung was a 3 year starter on the Left side, we have to replace our LT before we replace/fool around with a RT. Sure Williams is versatile but our real guy is Okung.

This makes lots of sense.

I thought that this was a good write-up of Okung's strengths and weaknesses

and keep in mind Mayock may be judging on diff factors, upside, etc

I'm pretty sure he's got McCoy ahead of Suh as well

I've seen in some comments from Broncos fans that they'd expect us to pick Williams since he's more athletic whereas Okung is a bit more smooth and not as strong in the lower body

who knows

Re: Mayock Thinks Redskins Could Pass on Okung...

^ we all know that Suh is better than McCoy. I feel that they're just trying to kill time and extend conversations that McCoy is better than Suh. Just look at the texas game. McCoy had 1.5 sacks, Suh had 4.5 sacks. McCoy had 5 tackles. Suh had 12 tackles. McCoy had 2 tackles for loss, Suh had 4 tackles for loss. McCoy had other great Defensive Lineman (Auston English, Adrian Taylor, DeMarcus Granger, Jeremy Beal [future first round pick]) Suh didn't have one other decent player playing with him. Suh was double and sometimes triple-teamed, McCoy was always doubled, occasionally single teamed.

Please draft analyst stop saying McCoy is better, any other year he would be the best DT, but this year he's coming out when arguably the best one in 10-20 years is coming out as well.

Suh also led his team in tackles. Not bad for a DT.

If we still have the 4th pick by draft time, it would be a mistake to take anybody but Okooong. You can try to justify taking anybody else you want, but he's the closest to a sure thing we're going to get in this draft.

I'm not sure I get this write-up?

The reviewer says that Okung has long arms but is not very strong, but we know that he put up 38 reps at the combine and scouts were saying that was an absoluetly huge number for a guy with very long arms so I begin to ask myself if this guy really knows what he is talking about?

When I read further and he says he is not impressed with Okung as a pass blocker and then I look at twenty other reviews that place him as the best pass blocking lineman in the draft without question I have to say I'm not so sure this review helps us?

Seems odd to me too. Okung is easily the best OT in the draft IMO.

Re: Mayock Thinks Redskins Could Pass on Okung...

The notion that the Redskins hyped up visits with guys like Berry and Bradford yet hid the fact we were meeting with Okungs is far-fetched

Okung's Advantages:

-Familiar with zone-blocking offense
-Can start at LT right away
-Consistent, reliable

Williams' Advantages

-Superior athlete
-Can play both LT and RT (something that really appeals to Shanahan)
-Potentially huge upside (but he seems to have the risk of being a bust)

Williams was considered a top prospect going into this draft but started to slip some as the Sooners struggled

At #4, I think we should go with Okung over Williams. I'd rather go for the sure thing.

The only way We get Williams is if we swap 1st rd picks w/ Denver and throw in JC for Marshall. If we stay at 4 it's a lock we're taking Okung.

Re: Mayock Thinks Redskins Could Pass on Okung...

I don't think we are trading picks anymore. They are gonna take Okung for sure to have a cornerstone piece of the O-Line, and then they are gonna trade players for more picks. Not sure which players, but thats my gut feeling. I like Williams, but Okung is too much of a beast to pass up.
