Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
So, would he play LT to start with Williams on the right? Or would Brown start out on the right? If he starts out on the right, how long would Williams stay there? I thought he was drafted with the intent of being a left tackle.
What's J.Brown's contract status?
His contract status is signed original (first) round one year RFA tender, scheduled to be UFA in 2011. Pending, of course, the existence of free agency in 2011. One of the many reasons that the compensation will be lower than I initially thought: he basically wasn't tied to the Saints beyond this year, and people knew his future was in NO. We won't be giving up more than the equivalent of a third rounder. |
Boy 29 sure is old for a player who's been in the league 5 years. This definitely isn't a long term move for sure, probably 3-5 years at best.
3-5 yrs is long term in this league, especially if it's closer to 5 yrs |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
not that this isn't potentially a great move but jamal brown didn't take a snap last year, we have seen pro bowl players come in after injuries and not play up to what they once were. i wouldn't make any assumptions of him being higher than trent williams on the depth chart right now.
3-5 yrs is long term in this league, especially if it's closer to 5 yrs
It's hard to imagine that a guy who isn't dominating right now would be effective at age 33 or 34, but if the compensation isn't obscene, they'd only need a good year or two out of him to justify the trade.
This really doesn't have to be a trade for 2012 and beyond to make sense. It's clear there's no rebuilding going on here. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
This is a great move for us! We are instantly better.
Don't be surprised if Artis Hicks battles Mike Williams for the starting job at RG. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Brown is 29, for those wondering -- same age as Haynesworth. This seems like a 3 or 4 year move.
Gives a guy like Capers plenty of time to develop. Plus Trent Williams can go through the same process he went through at Oklahoma, start out at RT, get used to the speed of the game and move to LT. Some players have problem switching back and fourth between LT and RT, but Williams is not the type of player I would be worried about in that regard. The real question is which line is better on paper. 2005-2006 or 2010. LT - Samuals, LG - Dockery, C - Rabach, RG - Thomas, RT - Jansen or LT - Brown, LG - Dockery, C - Rabach, RG - BMW, RT - Williams Personally I give the edge to the former. If BMW can play at the same level as Leonard Davis then that switch easily goes the other way. Of couse that might be a pretty big if. |

Yeah that's true. We'll see I guess. I do feel good because usually when you think about guys that are 29 and in the NFL you think they've been in the league like 7-8 years, not 5. That means he's got more left in him than other 29 year olds. I think if it is a 4th rounder it will be a good deal for us, especially if he holds down a tackle spot for the next 5 years. |

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Well then I'll hold my breath until I know what the true comp is. I'd be disappointed if Rocky was in it, I wanted to see how he was gonna transition to being a 3-4 mike backer.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I have been hyping up this deal for a long time, and now it has finally come!!!
I LOVE this move, because IMO, Trent Williams cannot just be put out there week one as our starting LT, and get owned by demarcus ware. Trent Williams played RT for 3 years in college, and LT last season for a little bit and didn't do as great there as people thought. When Shanahan drafted him and said that he's going to be our starting LT, I thought it was a bad move to throw him out there right away, but then again our Tackles aren't good, besides him. BUT! Now we have Jammal Brown an All Pro LT, who can teach Trent, and let Trent succeed this year on a side of the ball that he's more familiar with, and when Jammals time has come, he can leave and Trent will be fully ready for the Left side. Our OL by the way, is already way way better than it was last year. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Favorite game these days:
LT - Brown (Trent Williams will serve as the backup LT) LG - Dockery - Cook C - Rabach - Kory L RG -BMW - Rhinehart/Edwin Williams RT - Williams - Hicks - Capers Most likely it'll be Rinehart and Williams getting cut especially since Hicks will be the primary backup at Guard now. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Is it really so much better if Jamaal Brown gets schooled by Ware in Week 1? Seems like, even if Williams ended up needed help the whole game, at least we get a learning experience out of it.

It's nice to see that a professionally managed NFL team can actually have a plan. I had forgotten about such things. |

He won't, or at least not that bad, because last time the saints played the Cowboys, Jammal Brown held DW sackless the whole night. It was his 3rd or 4th year in the league (DW's) so yes JB has played him when hes at his best. |
