Really can't stand when these athletes hold the teams hostage. People say well teams will cut people at will...well yes, and no. Most players have guaranteed money, so they get paid regardless, but why is it these players are not forced to honor their contracts? They willingly signed a contract for whatever figure, they should not hold a team hostage because they performed well for a year. Aren't they supposed to play well anyway?

No offense but teams are no saints either and at many times they don't honor their part of the contract. Teams would gladly get talent for cheap.

What do you mean they don't honor their part of the contract? Of course they do...they are required to. There are certainly stipulations in every contract about cutting a player. They are within their right to cut a player, and don't forget, it costs them money to cut someone in almost all cases. Other than cutting a player how would they not honor their part of the contract? (ps- players usually get cut because they are not performing to the level of money they are getting in a contract)

It's funny that you mention performance, sometimes players are not paid at the level of performance they are playing too. I hear what you're saying, it's just that fans always sides with the team in these situations.

You'd have downright craziness.

I mean, this wouldn't apply in the case of Revis, who has only three accrued seasons, but what if a guy like Tom Brady could pay the Patriots back the pro-rated portion of his signing bonus and become a free agent? Just be like, "thanks guys, but you can keep my 4 million salary this year. I can do better than that." Would probably fix a lot of market inefficiencies for players.

Well, I look at it like this, you don't need to make as much as the guy making the most. If you think about it, there are plenty that are making a couple million. That's 2 million dollars! They want 6 million. They play a game. I have no problem with a player like Revis going out and finding another job. I wonder what his degree was in? Let's assume communication, so if he's lucky, he could scramble to find a 100k job. I have never liked unions in sports. Owners have a TON of responsibility, players, just 1...PLAY. Obviously I am the minority on this though...which is fine...it's not going to change.
I'd love to see teams having more of a say on situations like Haynesworth. We should be able to void his contract and get his signing bonus back. Of course this will never happen...but what if you went to your job day in and day out and didn't perform at all, you would be fired.

I'm saddened to hear he will be the #3 out there. I think this kid is still talented and can do well for someone. I really think Arizona is dumb for letting Derek Anderson be their #1...he's a good back up, but that's it. Sure Leinart hasn't shown enough to be the man in Arizona, but I thought he would make amazing strides this year and would have put up great numbers. Oh well...maybe he'll be the next Rich Gannon or something. LOL.

In seeing the final contract I'm starting to think that Jets management is to blame for this mess. Some reports point to a difference in guaranteed money to be as minute as $5 million. Honestly $11.5 million per year is a little high for a corner but it's not that much more then Revis was worth. Then again part of me suspects that Revis just didn't want to go to camp. This deal is way off of the rumored 10 year $160 million deal that Revis was asking for.

his camp also had a 4 year demand, don't remember what the total money was

Agree, the numbers that were thrown around by both sides for a 10 year deal were/are a joke. 160 mil by his side and no more than 120 by the owner's side. Revis would have been a fool to sign such a deal to tie himself up for 10 years.

BTW have you seen the Dick's Revis ad where at the end when Revis ask the kid his name and he replys "Ginn." :food-smil "Priceless!"
