If the Broncos want Smoot let's play let's make a deal again with them, franchise him and try to get their first rounder, I'd even settle for their 2nd round pick.

Maybe Smoot can replace Bailey since it seems to be that Bailey got burned so many times... heheheheh...:)

Matty:

I'll defer to Crazy Canuck on this one but at the moment I don't think the Skins are able to franchise Smoot. He would count immediately as a $7.5M figure on their cap and I think they only have $4M in room.

So in order to franchise him, there would have to other moves to save $3.5M immediately. And the only way to do that is to cut players who have only trivial signing bonuses left to amortize.

They still have plenty of time to clear room, once Samuels restructures, and that should be soon, that will clear up a nice chunk of cap space.

Both good points and I agree with both. After some housecleaning they should be able to fit Smoot's tag price under the cap. That being said, I don't think we can afford to keep him at the tag price. It's gotta be a tag-and-trade or no tag at all.

All this speculation is driving me nuts!

Oh, the off-season, how I love you.

Thing is Dan and th Redskins have offered Smoot Big FA money but he wants Bailey money which we weren't perpared to pay last year.

The interesting thing is with the new PI rules in place and if they remain in place for the forseeable future, the importance of a good shut down corner is deminished and thus the amount teams are willing to spend on the position decreses. I am not saying Smoot isn't worth big money he is a great team player but maybe the position he plays isn't quite as important as it was twelve months ago and the swithch is now to smart and flexible DBs who can play agrresive zones and are interchangable as cover guys and pash rushers/run stuffers kinda like a LB-lite.
