You're right Daseal, he isn't all that bad, but he isn't all that great either.

What it comes down to is it's hard to see him in our long range plans here, so we might as well try to get something for him while we can. He's been pretty average the last two years, I think it's time to give someone else a shot at the #2 spot and move on from 50/50.

I think Gardner would probably fair better in more of a pass-happy offense...such as the one in Indy. Possibly the more you throw to him, the better he is....and he had such a great season in his rookie season.

I think he has potiential, but I agree Matty, I think we need to move away from 50/50 and have that percentage up to being more consistant. As run oriented as this offense is, when we do pass, the receivers are going to have to realize that when they get the opportunity..better make good with it.

He was in a pass happy offense under Spurrier, and in his second year in the system, he had 59 catches. This had a lot to do with becoming the #2 receiver in the offense (thanks to the addition of Coles), but he would have been able to justify more balls being thrown his way if he held onto them.

I'm not trying to say that Rod isn't talented, or that he doesn't have a lot to give a team. In fact, he could be the perfect receiver for this offense... if he had James Thrash's focus and work ethic. He doesn't. The question isn't "Is he any good?", but rather "Is he in your long term plans for the Redskins?" My contention is that he shouldn't be, and whatever value we can get for him now - with his slot going to someone with a future in the franchise - is better than not getting anything for him after next year, and his playing time curtailing the development of a younger player.

Rod isn't known for running great routes, until he masters that he's not going to be much better than what we've already seen, regardless of the style of offense he plays in. There's a reason he disappears for long stretches of time.

A WR that drops the easy passes is just not dependable. I would rather have a consistent guy who moves the chains than a guy who is good for one acrobatic great play every few weeks and nothing inbetween. If the Redskins get a 3rd rounder from Tampa they should wear a ski mask during the transaction. I will take any pick Tampa feels like parting with. It's time to move on from Rod Gardner...

I completely agree... I mean we need someone who can make the catch when the ball hits them in the hands. Not to say Gardener doesn't have skills, he just doesn't have the type of skills the Redskins need. If you would compare the two, making a great catch isn't anywhere NEAR as game-changing as getting a first down. He dropped a LOT of first down passes this year.

If I was in the Skins front office and somebody called to offer a 3rd rounder for RG, before they could even finish the sentence I would say DEAL!

They could then package the 3rd rounders to move up to the 2nd, or stay put and use those selections.

Not from what I've heard. Teams are always looking for the next beast on the d-line. It's easily the second most coveted playmaking position next to quarterback. I'd be surprised if 32 teams passed on him in the first round.

:laughing2 Gardner will burn you everytime the second you count on him your done, that's why I say do what ever we have to do to get rid of him, as you said Matty I would take a 3rd and run like the wind on that one, but I would get rid of him for a bag of ball's if I had to.
