I understand your point, but Vermil only wishes he had the success that Gibbs has achieved in the NFL. Vermil has nothing on Gibbs. Gibbs had more success within his first 2 years, than Vermil had in his whole career.

Most definitely. Vermeil is a great coach but not quite in the same class as Gibbs.

Shall we average PPG? If Vermeil had Williams I think they woulda gone to the big dance this year, or at least gotten damn close!

I'm not saying Vermeil is better than Gibbs, but he's certainly doing better right now.

Best all-time. I don't know if I'd say that yet. If he wins another SB convincingly he may be, but I'm not sure if that's me or my bias talking...

I dont think that having Williams would have made the difference for KC. He would have deffinatly up graded their D but I dont think that KC's D has the talent that ours had when Williams came on.

Also, the only bad situation that Vermeil was put in was when he took over the Rams. When he went to KC all he did was bring in Green to give them a passing attack, Holmes was already there. Vermeil needs to be better than 6-5 in post season with ONLY 1 SB.

IMO, Gibbs is the closest coach to the Lombardi level this game has seen since Lombardi.

I'm almost positive that Vermeil got to KC before Holmes. Though it might have been a matter of both coming during the same offseason

But I would agree that when you look at the bigger picture, not just 2004, Vermeil doesn't come close to Gibbs

My bad, you are right they both went to kc in 2001.

Joe Gibbs is a great coach and a very admirable human being and that is good enough for me.

As far as opening up the offense, its possible we could have been a little more open. But the reality is that this team had so many problems that opening things up would have resulted in some major mistakes and frankly if we had gone out there throwing downfield a lot, I think we would have not won more than 4 games.

To me you want to be able to run a few miles before you sign up for a 10K or a marathon. Ramsey needed to get his confidence up, and we needed to manage the game in the face of receivers who were performing poorly, and we needed to deal with all sorts of other limitations and challenges that we faced with pass protection and so on.

We just didnt have personnel that were ready or who were performing well enough to open up the passing game dramatically.

That said, I think that Gibbs could have opened it up more than he did - not wide open, but more so. I think he didn't for a very understandable reason - he was back as coach and he didn't want to see us losing games in humiliating fashion with large numbers of interceptions and very little competence displayed. If that had happened, he may have felt that people on the team would have questioned him and so forth.

He has gradually brought the team along, they are learning about the realities of the NFL today, and you will see a dramatically different and far more effective offense next year.

I hate that I have to love football so much. I'm already ready for next season and I hope that we are all discussing how we stomped the entire NFC East week in and week out.

We'll definitely see a more aggressive approach next season. Will we see a shotgun? I highly doubt it. If it was the answer to all our problems he would put it in, but what did not having a shotgun have to do with our offensive struggles last year??

I think the whole shotgun thing is really a non-issue. We have bigger issues to correct offensively. Like someone said, he's won 3 Super Bowls without it, it's not an absolute necessity to having a successful offense in the NFL.

I'm not saying it's a necessity, I just feel like it might be worth a shot. Then again, my name isn't Joe and I haven't won 3 Super Bowls.:)
