Tackles like QBs are in high demand, and 4 or 5 good ones will go in the first round. Zac Martin might slip to the second round, if so I take him, he is a good one... he might be a guard though. The tackles left are questionable picks early in the 2nd... Moses, Richardson, Mewhort, and ?

Niklas has only played tight end 2 years, he has the size, strength, and decent speed to be a very good one.
I agree with this, taking the 6th-7th best OT in the draft with our first pick is not a good idea. Reaching for need is always bad. BPA.

Re: RT and OL thread

On the podcast, Ross Tucker and Greg Cosell discussed the following players:

Tackles:

Tucker said that Jake Mattews is the best OL player in the draft. Plays like he's been in the NFL for five seasons.

Tucker also said that Greg Robinson is the best OL prospect meaning that he has an even higher ceiling than Matthews because of his size and athletic ability. But Robinson did not play in a pro-style offense in college and will need some time to develop.

Tucker called Zach Martin "the poor man's Jake Matthews" because of his knowledge of how to play OT. Per Tucker, it's as if Martin has played three years in the NFL.

Tucker was not high on Taylor Lewan because he thinks that Lewan isn't smooth laterally and that he has poor technique.

Tucker thinks Cyrus Kouanjo is mean and he likes that but he doesn't think that Cyrus moves well. Per Tucker, Cyrus will need to play RT in the NFL.

Cosell seemed to agree with Tucker on the above players.

Cosell likes Moses of UVA and he also likes Lucas of K-State. Cosell thinks that Lucas will be a RT and sees him as a good pass protector.

Guards:

Tucker likes Xavier S'ua Filo and David Yankey at OG. He called S'ua Filo "a rare athlete". Tucker thinks that S'ua Filo and Yankey are mirror images of one another in that SF is more athletic than Yankey and Yankey is more powerful than SF, yet both are athletic and powerful. SF also played LT at UCLA.

Tucker does not like Cyril Richardson at all. Cosell was silent about Richardson.

Tucker thinks tht Chris Watt of ND is a good player but that he will probably be a career backup in the NFL. Cosell disagreed with Tucker about Watt who Cosell thinks can be an NFL starter.

That's all they talked about.

Reaching for an OT is probably a bad move but we might be able to get the best OG in the draft at #34. That would help us, too.

astute observation on Cyrus K being slow, he ran a 5.59 40.. Plus he has health issues

most sites have Lucas rated as a late round pick

That would be great, OG would be great as long as he is good enough to start.
We need starting quality at #34, I do not care what position.

Of course it would help, especially if Compton is moved to RT.

Taking the 6th-7th best OT in round 2 might be taking the BEST RT...which is what we need. Remember we got Jansen in round 2 and he started right away.

Oh, I forgot to note that Tucker said that Jake Matthews is better than any OT in last years draft.

Re: RT and OL thread

Heard scout/consultant Chris Landry talk about Morgan Moses a couple weeks ago and said excellent Right Tackle prospect. Said good footwork, perfect long arms for pass protection, good film, better run blocker than pass protector but with his size, foot work and arms pass protecting should develop nicely. Said he should be a right tackle early in career but could see him shift to Left Tackle down the road. Good prospect in the second.

UVA has put out a nice crop of Olineman, I like Morgan Moses at 34.

Too many flags for Cyrus Kouanjo in the second, but if he is there say in the 3rd or 4th, probably grab him.

What a strange draft season. One player leaves the Combine because God told him to, another just quits halfway through a pro day.

IMO this sounds like straight Bull Sh%t. I don't think he has the desire. You've been training for weeks for this day and you dehydrate.

Here's my post-draft O-line predictions:

LT: Trent Williams. Same ole, same ole.

LG: Shawn Lavuao. Upgrade in pass-blocking, downgrade in run blocking.

C: Kory Lichtensteiger. Upgrade in run-blocking, downgrade in pass-blocking.

RG: Spencer Long. Don't expect him to start Day 1, but for sure by the middle of the season he should be, IMO.

RT: Tyler Polumbus. What a pleasure to be able to pencil in our stud RT every year! Moses could be the starter by the end of the year, but I don't expect it.

All in all, an upgrade over last year's pathetic unit. What are your thoughts on the O-line starters?

It's all about competition IMO. Only Williams should be penciled in as a 100% week one starter.
