Im surprised so many are taking it as him being appointed as the starter. It came across to me as the skins enter training camp listing him as number 1 but never did I take it as a guarantee that he is the opening game starter. Sounded like Gruden was putting him on top of the depth chart for the sake of having someone there. Being on top of the depth chart in February means nothing, so why take it as something?

If Cousins outperforms him in TC, I expect Gruden to go with Cousins, regardless of this announcement.
Not sure KC is even on the roster. He was the number 3 until McCoy got hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if they resign CM, either trade or release KC and draft someone mid rounds.

That must have been an extremely tough article to research on, she called her friend up and wrote a propaganda piece for him. Since he is so angry after collecting his last bunch of checks for 7 million, after helping run the football team into the ground. It's not like he sucked any less then Snyder or RG3, while he was helping run things.

Releasing him would be a pretty terrible move, you gain nothing and create a need. And I doubt he is worth more than a 7th round pick right now, which is not worth it imo. I think we need to ride out KC and RG and let them make the decision for us this year. In the meantime draft best player available at every pick.

That isn't saying much, they are all horrible right now. What does that tell you when Colt was playing the best till he got hurt.

My honest guess is because Dan Snyder probably told Gruden that if he wanted to be guaranteed one more year as HC, then he had best play RG3 no matter what.

Sure Gruden can play whoever he wants in "theory" but all that would end up bringing him is a public / national firing.

With RG3 this is probably a 3 or 4 win team. With some other QB and the same ownership / management - we are probably a 5 or 6 win team. Nothing is going to change any time soon until Snyder and company are gone.

Doubt threatening to fire him would work any better than it did on Mike Shanahan.

So... guess it's time to start blaming Gruden for everything now!

Agreed that until Snyder is gone, looks bad. Hoping McCloughan can make a miracle happen.

What does a guaranteed contract mean when you are redskins HC? If we've learned anything from the Shanahan situation, it's that Dan will fire you full well knowing he is paying you to watch from home for however long your contract is.

No, everything is not Gruden's fault. But it seems awfully fishy that Gruden has did a total 180 on his opinion of RG3 just a few months ago...

With everyone knowing it was Snyder's fault, again.

And I think the only reason an unproven OC got 5 guaranteed years here, is because that's what it takes to get someone to be HC under Snyder. 8 head coaches in 17 years. Even Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan couldn't turn this franchise around. At this point, the onus is all on Snyder, not Gruden.

I really hope the 180 on RG3 is due to McCloughan. If naming Griffin the starter really is at Snyder's urging, seems we are doomed to another painful season.

HC contracts are almost always guranteed money. It's not something the Skins are doing different than anyone else.

Speaking of contracts, I'm hearing that the new contract for Russell Wilson could possibly be a fully, guaranteed contract. I know we're talking about coaches' contracts being fully guaranteed, but it's a pretty gutsy & risky move to have a player's contract fully guaranteed. I mentioned this, merely, to point out that the idea of players and coaches having fully guaranteed contracts is not isolated to the Redskins organization. Sure, you ca point out that Russell Wilson can get you to a Super Bowl, but he can also get hurt and be out for a significant amount of time.

I know nowadays, teams overpay QBs to keep them from hitting the market. But a fully guaranteed contract for any QB is ridiculous.

I never understood why contracts weren't guaranteed in the first place. There is no point in a contract if you can just tear it up. It isn't a contract then.

They are designed to give the franchise a competitive edge and to have a loophole set so that they can unload the player before having to pay out so much against the contract. I don't know how much money is being wasted on this process, but it does seem to me that if contract monies were all guaranteed, and the contract is truly a "contract", then you'd probably see much lower salaries for these players.

It's a half-contract. Players have to live by it...clubs don't.
