Fans vote in the players.
|
It's a combination of players, coaches, and fans. I don't think the players and coaches can vote for anyone from their team and really they don't care all that much. It's all reputation. They basically wait until the deadline day, get in the locker room and just toss out known names to fill in the form and send it out.

The Pro-Bowl players are chosen by the sports writers of America, who know a great deal about the players, their history, and their stats (I don't think popularity has much to do with it). All of the fan votes combine to equal one measly vote. For instance, if LaVar receives the most fan votes for Pro-Bowl OLB, that equals one vote for LaVar for the Pro-Bowl. All of the other votes come from the sports writers.

From nfl.com
Fans, players and coaches select the AFC and NFC All-Stars. Each group's collective vote counted one-third towards determining conference rosters. Below is the AFC roster for the 2004 Pro Bowl. |
my mistake...can't remember where in the world I got that info...

Thanks for answering my question...the rule obviously has gone through some bad changes over the years.
The reason I say this is.... in the not so distant past, (ahem, I am old) only the players and coaches voted. It used to have so much more value and meaning to the players and myself because it was the actual players you measure yourself against each Sunday on the field that voted you in. You might remember the players always saying "I was voted in by my peers". Involving the fans and press cheapens the reward. Your average fan or reporter does not really know what is like to play in the NFL. Most fans will most often vote for players on their team, then the most recognizable name and not who is playing the best. Particularly if that deserving player plays for a low visibility team like Bengals or Browns. |
Most of the time I just vote for Redskins anyways. I use the AFC to pick what players I like thta arent skins.

Larry Allen has been a great player, but if Parcells says let him go, then you've got to believe the Tuna. This isn't just an average NFL coach, he's an NFL coaching legend. He knows who's got it and who doesn't.
|
The fans have a lot to do with the Pro bowl voting. Haven't you ever filled out an on-line ballot.

Apparently the fans vote only counts one third, i never knew that.

Cowboys | Team Entertaining Trade Offers For Allen, But Will Not Release Him - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 12 Apr 2004 11:20:22 -0700 Jean-Jacques Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, reports a difference in workout philosophy is the dispute between Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells and OG Larry Allen, according to two sources with the club. The Cowboys will entertain trade offers for Allen, but the team will not release him. Yeah, that's what I want. An out-of-shape lineman who won't work out, and has a huge cap figure. Want my first round pick? |
