Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
Why is MB an ass for looking out for what he views as his own best interests? The minute he's of no use to the skins he will be gone because the skins are looking out for their best interests so why can he look out for his? Sounds like a double standard.
No, it's not a double standard. Anytime a player in this league looks out for himself that makes them a prick. It's a double standard if people give Mark Brunell a pass. How is this that much different from what TO did? It's not that much different. The same thing happened with Samuels last year where he needed to restructure or we would need to cut him. Very few people on this site came to his defense. Anytime a player doesn't put the team first that makes them a bad person. I'm taking a harder stance than I feel because everyone else is so eager to give him a pass on this. That's bs. People hate on LaVar cause of what he makes. If he doesn't restructure people will be crucifying him on this site. The same should go for Brunell. |

Why doesn't this same logic apply to Arrington, Smoot, Bailey, Pierce and Ramsey? |

Who said it didnt? I sure didnt. Like I said in a previous post I think the player needs to weigh whether renegotiating and staying is the best thing for his career. If it is then reneg, if not then tell the team sorry. The NFL is a meat grinder and players are chewed-up and spit out fast with, imo, little regard and compensation by the teams so they need to get as much as they can as fast as they can. |

My issue is that there's a double standard if people give Brunell a pass while other guys like TO or LaVar get torn down for getting paid or wanting to get paid. It's not that much of a different and that's what I'm trying to get people to acknowledge. If he chooses not to restructure, it's a similar situation. |

Honestly, I think if an owner is stupid enough to give a 34 year old quarterback a seven year, 35 million dollar contract, it's his own fault. My only point is, if everyone else gets torched, Brunell shouldn't get a free pass. |

I could be wrong on this, but I think the difference is that TO had a contract that he wanted tore up and redone. LaVar alleged that $6 million in bonus money was owed him that was a mistake (misunderstanding?) on his agent's part. MB isn't asking for more money or a new deal, just what's on his contract. But as I said before I think his posturing at the moment is all part of the bigger CBA picture. |

Like most of us said when that deal was made what was Danny thinking??? If the CBA is not done and we have to cut players 06 is lost. So keep the best for 07 and 34 year old QB's don't fit the need. I guess Campbell will start sooner then later! :coach: |
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
hey loyalty in the NFL is rare. Especially for a guy that is 36 years old, probably playing for his last team in his career, he isn't going to have the chance at making $4million a year. Plus if he is cut, the team eats 5+million, so why rework your deal? For the betterment of the team, if these guys were worried about the team, wouldn't you think they would play for the minimum every year, and just play for the signing bonuses. He reworked his deal last year because of the season he had, awful. he comes back plays like a probowler, his agent isn't going to let him rework the deal.
|
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
Heres why I dont understand this.... why wouldn't you renegoiate the deal? Everything as far as base salaries can be gaurnteed after this season, so why wouldnt you renegotiate it and get all that gaurnteed money? Especially when a guy like Brunell will probaboly get cut within the next couple years anyways?
As I, and That Guy, have stated, it's because restructuring your deal makes you a good candidate to get cut in the future. By converting a base salary into a bonus, you aren't cutting the guy's pay, you are simply deferring some of the cap space to subsequent seasons. By deferring some of the cap space to subsequent seasons, you make yourself more costly in the future. Making yourself more costly in the future is a bad idea when you are nearing the end of your career. It only makes sense to restructure when a team has more to gain from cutting you now than keeping you. That is not the case with Brunell, who is more expensive to cut than keep. |

You are right loyality in the NFL is rare. The second a player is useless to the team he is gone no matter how great he was or how much he helped the team to win. Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice are the poster boys for the lack of loyality in the NFL. |
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
Brunnel=Bitch if he doens't help us. we helped him. Gibbs helped him. He sucked ass. We gave him another shot. He got good. he became a bitch. plain and Simple. Every player that does not help us in this tough time, expecially if they owe us, is a bitch
Redskins8588 isn't a new member he has been here twice as long as me. I might be a new member but i have been here for over a year.
Man, Gibbs didn't help Brunell. Mark simpley proved Joe right, thats all. We gave him big bucks to have the season he had. |

i think gibbs, it being his first move and all, got overly excited and bet too much to get him (MASSIVE contract and a 2nd round pick) where his actual price was much less. I think the jags may have rushed him (like al davis does) and he fell for it. |
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
That makes way too much sense, it's easier to just label him a bitch.
He's probably on roids too, and in his roid rage he's refusing to restructure.
If he was on roids he probably be much better, rather than scared to death to take a hit, and unable to complete a pass beyond 10 yards. Well you have been mocking certain individuals over the coarse of the last couple of years who have stated that some of these moves in which we have overpaid players is going to hurt us in the long run, what's your responce now? Looks like they knew what they were talking about after all. How's that 43 mil for a QB ready for the scrap heap looking at this point? He was a part of 1 playoff victory, I say apart because it was our defense that won that game in spite of Brunells ineptitude. Brunell 43 mil Arrington 68 mil Portis 50 mil The first 2 are a complete waste of money, we would have been fine with another quality back, either Jones from Detroit, or Jackson from St. Louis, both would have been avail. in the draft to us, and Jackson actually fits Gibbs style of running. 161 million dollars on 3 players, have any idea what we could do with that money to help the overall state of our team? Not to mention the picks we gave up to complete 2 of those deals. Don't worry Matty your boy will restructure, he's to smart not to know that the rest of the league knows he's finished, he's nothing more than a emergency QB at this point who's scared to take a hit, he's got it to good with us to throw it away over a few dollars to go ride the pine somewhere else for less than he would get from us to start. |
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
Finished after a 23 TD, 10 INT, 3050 yard season?
You been hitting the bottle again? Anyway, now back to reality. Yes Brunell and Arrington's contracts are an issue, but both are likely to restructure. As for Portis his base salary for '06 is only $545K... not too bad for a top 5 back. |
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
These threads are starting to crack me up. We could be talking about the turf at FEDX field and somehow Brunell's horrible QB skills comes up.

It all comes back to Brunell somehow. Speaking of the turf at FedEx, I don't like the way it looks on Brunell's jersey. Green isn't his color. But he sure sucks doesn't he? |

It is topic-worthy, very topic-worthy... but can we please get back to what's really important...will the CBA crisis make 2006 the year of THE ADE?? Maybe he'll be a Troy Brown like DB/WR/KR! |
Re: Brunell Reluctant to Renegotiate Deal
We don't know all the details but the Redskins have to take responsibility for their gambling with the payroll and overzealousness in signing certain free agents, etc. You can't expect everyone to fall over themselves to cut their pay and risk getting cut sooner to make up for these mistakes. Mark Brunell renegotiated last year and he may even this year once the dust settles with the CBA. I think he's a terrific quarterback and a huge reason for our resurgence, and deserves a lot of respect and appreciation.
