Technically, Lloyd comes as a trade, not a free agent, so he wouldn't be among the choice of "best free agent" on redskins.com.
I thought the same thing, but when redskins.com had the poll up they did include Lloyd

Re: Redskins best free agent move

It's got to be Randle El. You gotta love the smurfs!

Here's the thing with Lloyd: They had to give up 2 draft picks to get him, and then they had to pay him too (He's eating up more 2006 cap money than any of the other signings). I don't know if the guy brings anything special to the table (correct me if I'm wrong), and they probably could have found a more inexpensive FA, without trading anything.

The Carter signing was smart and Arch is a great player, who's now in a great system.

lloyd is the tallest (barely), the best jumper (by far) and a much bigger talent receiving than El.

All very true, but all I'm saying is someone like a david givens or an antonio bryant comes free of draft picks. Was he worth what we gave for him?

After all these signings, i truly believe that al saunders is the best pick up. if you look at what he has done with three "decent" recievers; watch out NFC East...you are lookign at 30 points minimum per game....portis will rush for 2200 yards....thanx danny s!!!!

who knows? we can re-look at it after the season and see. i think lloyd may be a better talent than either of those two, but bryant (talent wise) is probably pretty close.

I don't like giving up picks either, but gibbs saw something he must of really liked in him (REALLY liked, cause he's got some attitude issues they felt okay with).

The Eastern Motors organization needed an influx of original talent now that we don't have Lavar. So Brandon Lloyd has agreed to put together a single for them that will probably be track 3 on his new rap album.

And thus I submit that Brandon Lloyd is in fact the solution to Q3.

Re: Redskins best free agent move

Finally, a speed rushing defensive end! I'm looking for good things, for Carter and the Skins as a whole. Now the GW defense can really let loose, I see Carter on 3rd downs as the rush linebacker in the 3-4, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Since GW has proven he can work magic with the linebackers, exhibit 1 Antonio Pierce, I'm curious to see what unsung hero steps up this year. Khary Campbell? Robert McCune?

This really opens up our defense, instead of being forced to blitz to apply pressure, now GW can choose to blitz to mix things up. Carter will hopefully play a lot like Jevon Kearse did in Tennessee, get back in the backfield really quickly and make the qb make some mistakes. Add in Archuleta, a better version of Matt Bowen, and defensively we are looking pretty good. We should really be able to force turnovers, something we struggled with most of last year. I can't wait to see how the defense.

Offensively, I'm thinking Randle El and Lloyd together will have a bigger impact than Carter, but Carter is the piece we've needed to really run GW's defense.

Re: Redskins best free agent move

I voted for Carter but if Taylor has to do time and can't play this year then I would have to say that Archuleta is the best free agent move.

OK, I've trundled thru 53 posts on who is the best FA pickup for the 'Skins, and am impressed. However, none of the comments will change my mind from my original vote for Randle El. I love Andre Carter, but he will only make a top 10 D better. R-El, IMO will add points to the Offense. I do believe that a hi-scoring O gets you to the dance and a super D will win it.

welcome ;) El really adds points to the special teams. lloyd adds more points to the offense than Randle will (he only had one receiving TD last year).

Re: Redskins best free agent move

Hey, I was looking at the free agent lists, and why did we pick up Archuleta? He's younger, and he's a million cheaper than Ty Law, but Ty Law is WAY better. Wouldn't you all have liked to see Ty Law rather than Archuleta? And how come we haven't gone after Sam Adams? I think Andre' Carter is going to be another Dexter Manley. That was a class move, I'll give it to Gibby and Gregg there, but why Archuleta? Seriously, thats going to bug me. Ty Law is way better. Randle El is going to make a serious impact. I've heard from San Francisco fans that Brandon Lloyd is a younger T.O. He's a cancer in the locker room. We're going to have some issues with him, unless Saunders puts his foot in his ass soon, I mean, as soon as camp starts. Why else would SF get rid of him so easily? We traded a draft pick for him, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Redskins best free agent move

i voted carter for two reasons
1) drew bledsoe...... he's a statue in the backfield,he does not scramble very well but if he's given time he can pick a defense apart.
2) Eli manning...... he's still young, put pressure on him and he'll make mistakes.

i like all the skins pickups but i think carter gives us a huge weapon against two of the three nfc east apponents.

ty law would have been way more expensive and he's a corner, not a safety. he can play free safety, but he'd be out of position and taylor would be displaced too then. apples and oranges and all that.

and before calling lloyd a cancer, lets at least see how things go. gibbs has earned some benefit of the doubt when he says he thinks a FA is worth getting. ST has off field troubles and some shady things, but his teammates are all for him and he has no trouble in the lockerroom. Hopefully winning and evteran leadership (san fran lacked both) keep him in line. there's no way of knowing until the season starts though.

sam adams is old and slow and expensive and he wouldn't be an upgrade. we've got 2 younger guys doing the job.

Re: Redskins best free agent move

I say Andre Carter. The Skins have needed a pass rushing DE for many years and they have finally addressed that need. The combination of acquiring Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El may end up being the best thing that happened to the Skins. It opens up the offense to so many possiblilities. Not to mention, improving the return game and the ability to run trick plays. Next season is going to be -- So Exciting!!!
Does anyone else feel nervous about Lloyd? Tony K pointed out his excuse for not feeling welcomed in SF was people weren't "feeling my style". Also if you watch the interview with carter he all but says he didn't like the man.

Just seems to have some maturity issues.
The best part with Lloyd if he does cause problems we have enough depth to bench or cut him. My vote is for El because he should get more chances touching the ball. If we use him on punt and KO and then as a receiver he sould produce some nice numbers. Does anyone remember the last player we had that was this versatile?

Alright girls listen.....There is no point to voting because it really doesn't matter
1. Blowing money on free agents hasn't helped your team since the 80's
2. Dallas did better anyway http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9338800

So quit voting on which free agent you think was the best cause NEWSFLASH!! It isn't gonna work...It never has but good luck anyways

So have fun dreaming.....And get you popcorn ready..It's gonna be a show!!!

PS: Tell Sean Taylor to stay out of jail.....He might actually play a couple games this season

Not a free agent, but Al Saunders. If for no other reason than he enables Gibbs to stay as head coach for longer than he would have otherwise.

At least he remembers the 80's. I wonder if he remembers Danny White getting dropped like third period french. Wasn't the score of that game 35-7. Wait a minute that was last year. My bad.

Keep signing choking kickers and backup linemen. It was nice how you threw away Larry Allen like Tom Landry. Oh well, whatever pays for Jerry's surgeries.

Did you guys really pay Fairy Glenn 20 million? He showed the world that he is Taylor's bitch on national television.

Re: Redskins best free agent move

Welcome GTripp and SilverFox!

DallasFan3121, well, someone already beat me to what I would have said. In addition, my question would be: Does your coach have the initials: HOF in front of his name, like HOF Coach Gibbs? Second question: How did that PO experience work out for your team this past year? Oh, that's right, you didn't make the POs!

I voiced my pick of Carter earlier, but I need to add AA has had a major back surgery, and was displaced in his former team's starting line-up on a bad Defense. Ram fans were glad that he left. That should tell you something big about him. I hope their fans are wrong, and I hope AA works out as a great signing for us.

I further agree with whoever said Al Saunders. Great move by our Coaching Staff!

That Guy 03-28-2006 01:00 AM

Re: Redskins best free agent move

AA was signed because we ranked very poorly in 10+ yard runs and an extra LB can help with cleanup. And because clark got run over by alstot and LT :(

hopefully he merits his contract, but a lot of people thought it was too much.

You Forskins are all screwed up in the head....Alright if ya wanna talk about playoffs lets talk....5 Super Bowls to 2 Super Bowls.....Bill Parcells is a HOF coach he just came out of retirement....this is T.O's last chance and I doubt he blows it again and as for last season its about damn time you had a winning season.....So stop spending all your money on Free Agents you Forskins and save your money for Brunell's hip replacment....

Roy Williams = 3 Pro Bowls + Full Season + 1st ranked safety in the NFL
Sean Taylor = O Pro Bowls + Probation+ 5th ranked safety in the NFC East
