Re: latest on LaVar
Could it be that he's trying to find the right fit with defensive coaches and defensive scheme after what happened here in Washington? Fact is, nobody knows.
He's talked to Cincy, he knows exactly what he's getting into there with Lewis. He's talked to the Giants, Pierce has probably given him a pretty good idea of what they do there. He's talked to Miami, he knows what he's getting into there because George Edwards is their LB coach. So the only logical thing to me that could be holding up his signing seems to be a contract. |
Re: latest on LaVar
Another article regarding LaVar and the Giants that reports he's looking for "huge money"
http://www.nypost.com/sports/61020.htm March 14, 2006 -- With no offer from the first two teams he visited, linebacker LaVar Arrington is preparing to make more trips as free agency rolls on and he searches for a new place to play. Arrington stopped by Giants Stadium over the weekend and yesterday his agent, Carl Poston, said, "I don't know if the Giants thing is going to work out or not." The Giants often pounce on their targets when they like what they see, but they have taken a more deliberate approach with Arrington. Poston said Arrington enjoyed his visit with the Giants, adding "It's hard not to like New York." There are some interesting theories floating around regarding Arrington and the Giants. One involves a conflict of sorts between the front office, which is leaning toward trying to sign Arrington, and the coaching staff, which is not sure he will fit in with the defensive scheme. Arrington, who has spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Redskins, is a superb athlete, but tends to freelance on the field and that may have turned off the coaching staff. Arrington also may be at his best playing in a 3-4 defensive scheme, where an outside linebacker can find himself uncovered at the line of scrimmage. The Giants are a 4-3 team that relies on the pass-rushing skills of ends Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. "It doesn't fit," said someone with knowledge of the situation. Plus, Arrington is seeking huge money, which would limit how active the Giants can be in free agency. |
So we agree on how the deal was reached but how can you say that he did it to help out the Skins. It sounds to me that he did it for himself but in the deal also helped out the skins. I guess its how you look at it.
doesn't really matter now does it. hes not wearing the burgandy and gold next year. He helped himself career wise, and help us financially. |
Re: latest on LaVar
Here is one source that says he's looking for a bonus of $10M, which is still pretty outrageous.

Another article stating LaVar is looking for big money, and may be "pricing himself out of a job"
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-freeagents032106&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Another Poston client, linebacker LaVar Arrington, also seems to be pricing himself out of a job, as he seeks what is believed to be a double-figure signing bonus and a base salary in excess of $5 million a year. That's believed to be too steep for his top suitor, the Giants, and has kept the Bengals from making any serious overtures.
|

At 27 seems hard to believe that this is his last contract unless he plans on retiring early. He should lower the price, doubt he gets double figure signing bonus. |

Why do we presume that all of these clubs have made their offers to Lavar? Is it possible the holdup is on their end, not Lavar's? And I guess I still don't understand what the problem is here? He's seeing who is going to give him the best deal? Ok, is that different than any other player in free agency? Is he the first player to take his time finding both 1. the right fit, and 2. the best contract? Is there something wrong with that? The only other time he had a chance to test the market, he forewent that opportunity to sign a long-term contract with the Skins. He could have waited and tested free agency, but didn't, regardless of whether he could have gotten more money from another team or not. |
Re: latest on LaVar
what ever you say, dude. I am going by what he said. he wasn't worried about it, sorry it was actually the players association that filed the greivence over the contract, which in turn is why he is canned.
get your facts straight. the nflpa filed a grievance on his agents for being stupid. his agents (WHO HAD TO HAVE HIS PERMISSION) filed a totally seperate grievance with the skins. Regardless of what he may of said, his actions are what actually count, an he had no problems having his agents file the grievance, and made no attempt to discontinue it. going by what he said is stupid, cause thats NOT what he did. whether or not that makes him a liar is up to you. |
Re: latest on LaVar
the peterson deal. JP got a 54$mill contract and he's sorta in the same injury-released boat with lavar, and they have the same agents.
the poston figure they can wait to see if someone will bite with another crazy deal. |

Of course there's nothing wrong with that, I was just pointing out that money is one of his deciding factors. Somebody said LaVar isn't about the money... I was just pointing out stories that contradict that statement. |

Ok, I'm good with that. I have no doubt money is a factor, I just don't think that fact supports the hater comments out there (not by you) that seem to suggest that money is the ONLY factor and that money was always the only factor and that Lavar has never cared about anything but the money.........simply because he's trying to get the best deal he can now. |
Re: latest on LaVar
who doesn't try to get the best deal?
ryan clark this year (starting and being on a winner was more important, he could have done better)... tom brady (winning and having a better supporting cast)... there are others, but its still pretty rare. |
Re: latest on LaVar
Nice work 56. You are clueless about how it really is. You might want to sharper up your skills when debating your love for LaVar. I thinked him too, but he saw himself too much on TV and listened too much to the media. Get a clue. It's ALL about the money.

Re: latest on LaVar
Enough already! Can we all shut up about Arrington? :duel: This is all going to look pretty funny when he gets cut from his new contract in 2 years and resigns with us. Just like Trotter did with the Eagles, Lavar will do with the Redskins. Lavar is going to retire a Redskin. Anyway that's what my magic 8 ball says will happen.;) :httr:

Do all of your posts need to have some form of anger or hatred in them? I've looked over your posts and it's mind-numbing how many times the words hate, queer, cancer, disease, etc. are used. |

Re: latest on LaVar
It's a shame the way things worked out with LaVar. I couldn't believe the contract they gave him that started this whole mess off. I figured it would end badly when they said 8 years 88 mil or whatever it was.
I think the thing that gets so many people riled up about LA is that it seems like it should have been possible for a deal to be worked out moneywise that would have allowed him to stay here -and- not cause cap problems now or in the future. That is, assuming he really did care about this team. |

I guess he is trying to get the 10.9 mill he thinks he lost from us up front (6.5 + 4.4), good luck with that! I just can't wait to see how great the media will say he is when he's not a skin.

I think we need to invite Huddle into this thread. He'll make sense of it with reasoned, logical debate that is soundly based in facts.
|
Re: latest on LaVar
No way in hell he gets that much money up front. He will be lucky to get 7 million up front, and deal longer than 3 years. A guy coming of injury and limited play the last two year, does not get big money. It will be interesting to see where he plays next year.
