Right and this was a team with a better overall offense running the show.

Oh come on. It will make for a great game!! We beat TO last season and we'll beat him this season.. only this time it will be so much more fun because he is a Cowboy!! I can't wait for the game!

TO in Dallas. While I will totally concede he will make them better, he will NOT make them a Super Bowl team, hence the name TEAM.

The surrounding members also have to be up to the task and obviously the running game is not.

Malcolm,

whats with the "banned" and the 'defector' stuff?

Re: Parcells and T.O

Malcolm remember that last year Dallas' running game had to deal with 8 man fronts cause there was no receiver that needed to be doubled near the LOS. That changes with TO.

Now we are looking at a more balanced offense. With a Game Changing home run hitter at WR.

Re: Parcells and T.O

I'm reading through these posts and most focus on TO's behavior. While this should be the most important concern for the Cowboys, I personally don't assume that Owens will be as good as he was with his first year with the eagles. Going to the eagles, he was going from a west coast offense to another west coast offense. Going to the cowboys, he is coming from a west coast offense to a Parcells-led offense (or whoever is in charge of that offense, but I know it aint a west coast philosophy). I believe that he won't meet the expectations that everyone holds for him (on the field), considering it will be a more difficult transition in changing offensive schemes. In my opinion, it is hard for anyone to accept change and learn new things (esp. when you've been used to one way for your whole career), but considering his behavior in reacting to adversity or his sensitivity to feeling slighted by others - it will be more difficult for him compared to others to accept his new and very different surroundings and system.

Just my opinion and maybe wishful thinking, but I think my reasoning has some real logic to it.

I can't argue that Bledsoe is the QB that McNabb is. But Bledsoe does have a big arm. The question is will he be throwing while getting sacked or throwing from his Front Foot?

Philly did not run the ball. You all saw that. If McNabb had an offense that had a legitimate run threat the Eagles would have been much better off.

As to TO changing offensive schemes, well experts will bore you to tears in any sports bar about how the West Coast Offense is truly the 'Walsh/Seifert' version, or how all teams run some variant of it or blah blah blah.

Really, I think that TO could play in a Big 10 - now 12 - offence (three yards and a cloud of dust) and make an impact.
Really, I think that TO could play in a Big 10 - now 12 - offence (three yards and a cloud of dust) and make an impact.
Yeah, he'll still make an impact, but is he going to reach everyone's expectations of playing like he did with the eagles (1st year), I wouldn't think so. He has a lot of learning to do and at this stage of his career and his behavioral issues, I don't think he is very conducive to learning new things.

And what might happen if the media says that he is good but not as good as with Philly and SF - that might affect him even more. I tend to go back to measuring success in relation to expectations.

You might be right. TO might just burst like a cheap condom and infect the entire locker room like he did in Philly. Or in San Fran.

But I think - hope - that the different circumstances in Dallas will prevent that for a year or two.

I have to post the saying/signature underneath your post:

what does TO's record say about him.

Re: Parcells and T.O

I'll be honest. The chances of this TO signing turning out differently than when he was with San Fran and Philly are pretty low. There is a huge risk factor.

It would take a level of self examination on TO's part that is difficult for anyone to do.

But if it does go well, it'll be another Jerruh gamble that worked out - Haley, Deion - and he can lord it over the good ol'boys down at the country club.

I would be worried about another game like Dallas had against the Skins in game 2 last year. I'm not gloating, I'm just saying that that is the type of game that I don't think TO could handle without going off.

Quote from GMU basketball coach Larranaga, after being asked a question (after his team's loss to Florida) about repeating his recent run to the final four, next year: "the greater the expectation, the greater the pressure and the more likely you fall short"

It's encouraging from a personal point of view to see a sports figure with his recent success to reiterate some similar philosophy (expectations and measure of success).
if i'm dallas, i'd be worried about the sluggish secondary. one somewhat fast corner that's over 30, and a bunch of slow dbs vs redskins 4 fast WRs and fast RB = a bad matchup.
What somewhat fast cb over 30 you mean Glenn, well first you have to great cbs in newman who is the fastest and Henry who got hurth last year but was playing great before he got hurth. The only some what slow db is Roy but he was playing out of position he has to play closer to teh line and attack the middle range passes we need a true FS to be the last man out there and I believ we will adress it in the Draft
talk about wishful thinking... where are you getting the rest of your oline and how are your dbs going to keep up with the skins WRs? line up 20 yards deep and see if we can complete uncontested slants and use open running lanes?
ok we upgraded the line by adding fabini getting back Adams that's the thing that hurth us the must and signing Kyle Kosier it isn't the best Oline but we sure did an upgrade.

again you talk about or dbs when yo ushould be more worried about your own dbs against glenn, TO, Crayton and Witten both teams have weapons we'll have to see who use them better.
Hmmm, that's interesting because in TO's last 3 games against Dallas (including the partial game in which he broke his leg), TO had 13 catches for 208 yards and 3 TDs.......so by implication......

I agree with you that Dallas's running game stands to benefit from TO being there......but against us I'm just not worried. If he ever got the better of us, I might be concerned......but we've consistently shut him down regardless of the offense he's playing for, even when all the other teams in the NFL got torched by him.
ok I don't count the first game as an eagle with Owens because our defense wasn't as good that year as it was last year and we will get better this year after all our rookies have 1 year under their belt.

he didn't play you last year but when he played us he only had 5 catches for 50 yards, sure Moss dominated our defense, but we controlle other wr like Smith, Burres, Williams etc.. and again we jsut need to upgrade the FS spot.

So maybe you upgraded some spots on your o-line, but do you really think that they will gel this quickly? Look at how long it takes o-lines to really come together...

We can get worse than last year so that's an upgrade of some sorts, really I don't expect then to go to the pro bowl or become all-pro they just have to be better then last year o-line thats not asking a lot.

Re: Parcells and T.O

I think regardless of what the teams do in the draft and from here on in free agency the NFC East will be a SLUGFEST. Every team has a legitimate reason why they could win the division, and every team has at least one pitfall.

As far as TO in Dallas, I also think it depends on your line. People are going to blitz the hell out of you early to see if you can stop it. If you can, then you'll have a good season. If people keep Bledsoe on his back there's very little TO can do. I actually feel our secondary matches up very well with you.

I'm willing to let Archeletta play the run a majority of the time. Springs / Taylor leaning towards TO and Rodgers on Glenn. I'll take Washington on Witten matchup as each player making big plays from time to time. I'm not even so sure we double TO, we'll see.

That said, what exactly is happening in Dallas with offensive coordinator? If I remember correctly, Payton left, if this is true, who took over, and are the running the same / similar / totally different system? (Hurray for run-ons!)

D'BOYZ 04-03-2006 12:41 PM

Re: Parcells and T.O

Palmer took over for Peyton he was the O. Coord for Houston and a Parcell guys he took the Qb. coach spot and was the Qb coach in New England when Bledsoe reach the SB and had his best season.

I also see the NFC East as the toughest division, this is going to be a verry good year.

If it's true that the off. coordinator has left - that environment is ripe for a TO outbreak. A coach that rides you like a mechanical bull, a qb that is emotional and outspokenly honest at times (esp. at the wr), and now a sense of instability with a new offensive coordinator. I'd be a little worried if I was a cowboys fan, but I'm not :) ...

Re: Parcells and T.O

Daseal,

Our line will be better. We were trying to play with a FA and a Sixth rounder at our Tackle positions last year, it will be better.

Also, Washington can't cover Witten, just like Ware couldn't cover Cooley last year. LB's can't cover Pro Bowl TE's or Pass Catching FB's for more than 5-7 yards, they just do not have that kind of Ability. Your defense will have to do what people do against your offense, cheat/blitz/rattled the QB so he doesn't see Cooley/Witten open 12 yds downfield.

The Grim Reaper can cover Witten which he will do when he is not putting burgandy streaks on Fairy Glenn's helmet.

All of the 'Boyz fans keep ignoring the loss of Larry Allen which was huge. And I guess that Flozell on a bad wheel is going to pick up right where he left off?? I don't think so.

5RINGS 04-04-2006 09:49 AM

Re: Parcells and T.O

The Grim Reaper can cover Witten

Yeah Taylor can cover Witten.
So then Glenn gets one CB and TO is covered by who? Single coverage on TO? Okay, so really you Double TO cause it would be stupid not to and watch him beat you. He's not Just another Guy playing receiver. He is a game changer/Home Run hitter.

Now you have seven in the box.

Now Dallas tries to run all day. So you blitz, knowing if Bledsoe gets that extra second, he will find the open guy and if it's Glenn or TO it's gonna be six.

So Dallas finally has an above average NFL level offense. That's what TO does for them. I didn't say they were going to be the second coming of the greatest show on Turf.

Yeah it will be important for Flozell to come back 100%, but our Tackle depth now looks like this: Flozell, Fabiani, then the shmoes who gave up 500 sacks last year. That is wayyyy better than starting of your Tackle depth with a FA and a sixth rounder.

Yes we will miss Larry Allen but really he couldn't move side to side anymore.
He was on the crummy line last year and gave up his share of sacks. He is the Best O lineman we have ever had, but the niners are paying him 7 million a year. Jerrah thinks his money is better used elsewhere.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-04-2006 09:52 AM

Re: Parcells and T.O

What happens is Springs covers TO with some safety help, Springs covers Glenn and our LBs are MORE than athletic enough to cover Witten. Our run support is top five easily, so there's really no worries there.

I think you guys will have a nightmare on your hands with Carter.

TheMalcolmConnection 04-04-2006 09:53 AM

Re: Parcells and T.O

And honestly, I was watching some footage of Witten earlier, and Pro Bowl or not, he just really doesn't impress me. He has good hands, but it always seems like no one was covering him. Were his numbers good last year? I'm just wondering if people figured him out.

Whitten was the 7th rated TE, with 757 yds, and 6 TDs.

Cooley was the 6th rated TE, with 774, and 7 TDs.

Both are good. Cooley is better.
