that still doesn't mean there's not a high risk level involved. Your single antedotal evidence is not enough for a valid conclusion. If you look at the % of people injured while running vs the % of people hurt motorbiking etc, i'm pretty sure you'd already know which relative percentage would be higher.

That Guy is right. The golf club in the head thing? That's so absurd it makes me laugh. What's the probability that's going to happen to you if you go golfing? Tearing an ACL running on the beach? Just going for a jog right? Still extremely, absurdly low probability.

Getting on an ATV, much higher probability of injury. Maybe not as high for you, since you have tons of experience with it. For you it's probably relatively safe. But you also don't make a million dollars a year. No matter how good you are at it, and how careful you are with it, it's still dumb to risk losing your MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.

If you want to assess how risky something is, simply look at an insurance premium to cover it. What costs more, the medical coverage on your Auto policy, or the medical coverage on your motorcycle policy? It's a no brainer. The motorcycle coverage costs more because it's riskier to your health than a car is. Cut and dry, those are facts you can look up instead of goofy probabilities of tearing an ACL while running on the beach.

You're also not simply concerned with the probabilty that an injury will occur. You also have to concern yourself with how bad the injury will be if I do get hurt. Running on the beach and tearing an ACL, though absurdly improbable, would put you out of work for a year. Flipping an ATV could paralyze you.

I'll argue this until I'm blue in the face. It comes down to people choosing "fun" over "smart". Rabach chose "fun", so I'm calling him dumb.

Rabach is already a millionaire and doesnt need money nearly as much as an average joe who needs each and every paycheck to get by. If somebody with a regular job couldn't work anymore, they would be a lot more screwed than an NFL player who is already a millionaire

OK now you're talking about something completely dehabilitating, like paralyzing yourself. In that case you're right, the NFL player has more money saved and could get by easier than the average joe.

But if we're talking about risking paralysis, then getting on an ATV is stupid for ANYBODY. But that's besides the point.

There are countless other injuries that would ruin a football career, but still allow the average joe to sit at his desk and do his job.

I dont think that I want to take sides on this issue. I can see both viewpoints. I do wonder, after the Winslow incident, if Rabach had anything specifically written into his contract that disallowed this type of riding? Heck, after the Taylor incident, the skins may have to start writing contracts that have a no-ATV-ownership clause.

Point number 1 - you could get killed in a car wreck on your way to 7-11. Yes you could. But you're a lot more likely to get hurt on an ATV than you are on a car. That's why medical insurance premiums for motorbikes are higher than for cars.

Point number 2 - I'm not trying to tell anyone what they can or can't do. I never said there was anything contractually preventing Rabach from riding an ATV. There's nothing illegal about it. I respect that it's his decision to make. All I'm doing is criticizing him for making a poor decision. He can choose what he wants to do, but guess what, I'm free to judge him on his decisions if I want to.

Yes, I was talking about the kind of injury that would completely dehabilitate you. A football player would lose his ability to play football by, say, shattering a kneecap. With that same shattered kneecap, a regular joe would still be able to sit at his desk and answer the phone, he'd just need a cane or a wheelchair to get him to work.

There is an easy solution to all of this. If a player gets hurt doing something other than football and can not play, he does not get paid and he does not count against the teams salary cap.

If you're a football player and you do something even more dangerous than ride ATVs, then that is even more stupid. But that doesn't mean riding ATVs is a good idea. It's not about being too scared to ride one, or macho enough to ride one, or any of that stupid sh*t. It's about doing what's in your own best interests.

Playing basketball, playing with your kids, and swimming are not as dangerous as riding an ATV. Unless you don't know how to swim, in which case it would be STUPID to try without taking lessons first.

Quite simply put, some things are more risky than others, and riding ATVs is one of them. If that's the case, then maybe a temporary lapse in judgment caused his accident. The real story is that Rabach injured his leg because he was having unprotected sex with some random girl while riding the ATV. He got upset when she called him Cory Raymer and they both flipped over.
