Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
Wow I hope he was worth three picks! Now what the trade was was giving each other 2nd rounders this year. What the Jets got was our 07 2nd rounder and this years 6th rounder[189]. Not a real big cost but I just hate to give up that second rounder in 07!!! If he turns out to be a starter and the LB that Arrington was not we hit pay dirt. But if he is a so so player not good at all!!!
I think he will be a starter, my own fear is that Rocky's weaknesses are similar to LaVar's. |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
I think they had a list of linebackers and saw all of 'em get crossed off one by one. ...I think they realized they weren't gonna get any of the linebackers on their list or any of the CB's on their list. So they traded up--you can only get what the market gives you.
I'd rather trade up than waste a second round pick on somebody that wasn't on my list. |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
I wonder what it would take to trade back into the 2nd round? Eric Winston from Miami and we could call it a draft.

Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
Lot of hate for this deal. I don't mind it. First, everyone needs to stop saying we gave up 3 picks to get him. We didn't. We gave up 2 picks.
We gave up #53, but got #35. So those picks are negated. We gave up next year's second (which has the same value as a third rounder this year) and a 6th rounder. I'm not bothered by that at all. 6th rounders are worth jack squat first off. Secondly, we're positioned to make a run this year. It's better to make sure we get the guy we loved now rather than next year. Everything I've heard on McIntosh says that he's rock solid, and he fills the final hole in our roster. Gibbs and company have done well with first-day draft picks. Sean Taylor, Chris Cooley, Carlos Rogers, all good picks. Jury's out on Campbell still. He's going to fill the only need we have (except maybe punter). And I think Gregg Williams knows how to pick his LBs. I'm not jumping up and down thinking we got a steal. But I'm not bothered by it by any means. After all, he might be the final piece of the puzzle on D. |

You maybe right!!! What is really troublesome is the way we have mortgage the 07 draft with our 2nd and 4th goen!!!!! This kind of doing things has to come to a end soon!!! So 07 we have a 1st,3rd,5th,6th and 7th! Free agents next season can't really be a way to get players becaues of the money short fall! So I have to say it. We need to hit a home run on a late round pick on Sunday with the 5th,6th[2] and 7th[2]!!!!!! When will the madness end???? |

Yeah, but there's probably two lists. One of guys you'll settle for and one of guys you want. I think I'd take one guy I want rather than two guys I'd settle for. ...especially if what I really wanted was one of eight or nine linebackers. ...especially if I don't think there's gonna be much left in the Quality LB Department come pick 53. |

maybe he's a diamond in the rough, but we gave up a whole lot to get him!!!

Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
we seemingly gave up a whole lot to get campbell last year- and i admit to being super-pissed after that draft, but in hindsight it was a very smart move.
that's why i'm pretty calm right now... especially since this is way less than we gave up last year. |

I am getting my fears from this -------------------------- www.nfldraftcountdown.com Outside Linebacker | Senior | Miami (FL) Roger McIntosh Height: 6-2 1/8 | Weight: 237 | 40-Time: 4.61 Official Bio Strengths: Outstanding athletic ability...Has great speed and quickness with a burst to close...Can make plays sideline-to-sideline due to his range...Playmaker who is always around the action...Good tackler...Has a knack for making stops behind the line of scrimmage...Versatile...A leader on and off the field...Hard worker who is smart and mature...Has some upside if he can stay healthy and on the field. Weaknesses: Inconsistent and doesn't always play up to his talent...Takes bad angles...Is only average in coverage...Needs to get stronger...Relies heavily on his athleticism to recover from mistakes...Can be too aggressive at times...Has dealt with knee, shoulder and back injuries...Does not really have a ton of starting experience. Notes: Could project to either outside or inside linebacker at the pro level...The recent success of other Miami linebackers such as Jonathan Vilma and D.J. Williams in the NFL sure won't hurt his cause...Seemingly has all the physical tools you look for. __________________ |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
So what we have left is the 5th[153],6th[173],6th[196]7th[230] and 7th[250] God please let us find some back ups or maybe a starter in one or more of these picks!!!

It's from an old write up from the Hurricanes site, but the kid, apparently, was outstanding on special teams, which I know counts for a lot with our coaches.

Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
With next year's 2nd looking like it will be no better than this year's 53... this trade doesn't hurt me if they got their guy at 35.

Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
lets just give away all of our other picks for Devin Hester and go home. Hell give em all the picks from next year for that gay kid from who's the boss too while we're at it.
Im not sayin the McIntosh pick was bad, but I think we did not have to give up so much to get a quality player where we were. Daryl Tapp also comes to mind... wonder where he'll go...
draft is not yet over as Joe Gibbs said, drafts is won with the later round picks and also the undrafted, because high picks also drains salary cap (which we don't have) hail to skins hail to gibbs |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
Memo to front office. You trade up and get someone who still there idiots!
Why do you think we wanted D'Qwell? There has been nothing to suggest that at ALL -- this is pure rumor. McIntosh is bigger, significantly faster and is a natural WLB, which we needed. While D'Qwell has spent some time on the outside, he really excelled as an ILB which we already have in Marshall. Have some faith in the front office that they didnt just randomly trade up not knowing if their target was there. |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
Look, we needed an LB, and this is the guy the coaches wanted. Drafting is NOT an exact science, to say the least. If this is the kid they wanted, I'm good with it.
As for the late rounds and undrafteds, we can make a lot up there, if we do a good job. That's where the scouts earn their money. Remember Joe Jacoby! |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
Who cares about the low draft picks, the Skins can't seem to pick any winners past the 2nd or 3rd round anyway.

That's not so bad--most other teams can't figure out the first three rounds. Thank goodness we didn't take Winslow Jr. ...and speaking of the late rounds, does anybody know whatever became of Manuel White? He's still on the team, right? |

They did once, and I wouldn't be surprised if they do again. One thing Gibbs mentioned in his presser (up now athttp://www.redskins.com) is that they've added resources to the scouting department. But what about Lemar, Pierce, Evans, etc? In a system like Williams, he slots in a lot of guys and makes it work. Can't say about the Offensive guys (Molinaro, White, Nemo, etc.) because Gibbs doesn't very often go with rooks, and we have good depth at RB, for example. So I think the jury is still out on the CURRENT skins and the late rounds and undrafteds. |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
If we get just one good player tomorrow, that would be a success, IMO. We'll see. I think that we all get caught up in Kiper-style draft hype, and think that it's obvious how these things will work out. For every Samuels and Taylor, there's a Brady or Jacoby. And I think the strategy of relatively young (24-28) FAs is a much safer way to go, if you are a team willing to spend the dough. And god knows we are!

Maybe next years 1st round pick(32 overall) We will package with the rest and move up to the #1 over and pick QB Quinn from ND or what ever his name is.. |

This is as good a day as any to start posting again! McIntosh wouldnt have been there at 53, its the guy they wanted. Yes, we gave up a 2nd for next year, but who cares if they got who they have been targeting. Pretend we had all 7 of our original picks this year, we wouldnt need to sign 7 players, we dotn even have room to. Roger will be great for williams and gives him more flexability. He has the physical tools to be used to blitz and create pressure on the QB. And he'll actually listen to Williams and fit into his system.. And as a side note...its getting hard to fit all my canes on my icon :) |

If this is what Coach Gibbs and Coach Williams wanted, then I'm 100% behind it. do you remember the days when Danny Snyder would jump in and say I want so and so , so pick him....? Glad they are over... I see this as a good pick. Its what the coaches wanted and they know what they are doing.. |
Re: Skins officially pick Rocky McIntosh
you know, theres a lot of players that snyder has wanted, that we didnt draft becuase of our other coaches, and he went and got them anyways... We had a bunch of early round busts before Gibbs got here and made a point of going after canes early and often :)

Devin Hester was a steal for the Bears. He could have been a top five corner or receiver if he played another year but needed the money for his family...

I just woke up for a four hour nap, and heard that the skins took Roger, the first thing I thought was I couldnt beleive he was still there at 53...took me a minute to wake up and read that we traded for him

I personally would have taken Howard, thats what I was expecting after they traded up, but I'm sure GW will get the best out of him. |

not a bad pick, but i would have taken jimmy williams at that pick.
