Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
You know if he comes, Gibbs will use him wisely and it certainly would not hurt our young linebacking corps to learn form a future hall of famer (do most here agree with that?). Don't break the bank, but I only see it as a plus.

Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
He would be reunited with Dale Lindsey. But I'm not sure it's worth it really.
Just got a heads up that on ESPN Cold Pizza that Junior Seau is talking to the Redskins. He wants More than the vet minimum.
How do you guys feel about this possibility?
He would be the cherry top on a sundae of over hill cap eating Vets. He hasnt been a force in the league for more than 4 years. |

02 - 13 games, 83 tackles (6.4 per game) 03 - 15 games, 96 tackles (6.4 per game) 04 - 8 games, 57 tackles (7.1 per game) 05 - 7 games, 36 tackles (5.1 per game) let's use facts, facts are fun! he's been good the last four years when healthy. as a reserve, that'd still make him useful, and i'd use him over "worse than a trash can" holdman. and for comparision, washington has had 4.3, 5.1, 6.7, and 5.8 tackles per game the last four years. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
I like signing Seau for a modest salary. We need experience at linebacker - and Seau is the kind of smart player that would thrive in Gregg Williams' system. It will allow McIntosh more time to develop, which every player would ideally have, and he can be worked in slowly over the year. Chris Clemons is also there to provide a pass rush. Seau can be used sparingly enough so that he can maximize his energy when he is in there.
Seau adds intangibles as well - a burning desire to finally win a Super Bowl, leadership - this is a no brainer signing really when you take everything into account. Holdman I'm sure is a decent player who would still have an NFL job with another team if Seau signs, but I don't think he would be the difference maker that Junior Seau is. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
I think it might happen...
|
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
i agree with thatguy that facts are fun but....in the last 2 years seau has missed a total of 17 games, too old and broken down
|
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
When you bring a new guy in, part of the deal is that you have to teach him your terminology and how the defense works. This takes a fair amount of extra attention, mainly on the part of Dale Lindsey and GW in this case. I'm all for investing that teaching time in a young guy like Andre Carter or Adam Archuleta, but investing the time teaching a 38 year old who is way past his prime doesn't make much sense to me. It just takes valuable coaching attention away from Rocky and Chris Clemons. And for what, a marginal upgrade (if any) over the guys we have?

Excellent point. Tackles per game, gee great stat. If he's not on the field, he's useless. |

Because he's a leader on the field. Rocky and Clemons would learn a LOT from him. Hell, maybe even Marcus Washington could learn some things. The guy has a burning desire to win a superbowl. View it as a good thing that he's interested in coming here, it must mean he thinks we're on the brink of greatness. I do agree with you, the injuries are a factor. However if we use him the right way, special packages, situations and such, I think he can contribute well and stay healthy all the way through. The main thing is that if we were to sign him, it wouldn't be viewed as a major focal point of our defense and he's not trying to set a stupid record (Bruce Smith). He'd be here to help put us over the top, that's what matters most. |

He's fiery and passionate, which guys will surely take to. But leader? I don't think so, I don't think he can challenge Marcus Washington as the leader amongst the LBs. And then there's Renaldo Wynn, who the defense all looks up to as a leader in the locker room. You can't have that many "leaders", Seau would have to come in and take a back seat to the leaders who are already here. He'll have to fall in line. Now that's not to say that he couldn't play the role of the good soldier. And he probably could teach Rocky a thing or two about offensive tendencies. But his skills are the main problem in my opinion. They're just too eroded at this point, and he's way too prone to injury. I'd rather see us focus on trying to develop the younger players. Junior Seau is definitely not going to be a difference maker for us this year in any way, shape, or form. |

Seau was wrecking this league before Marcus Washington graduated high school. If you're a linebacker, you KNOW who Junior Seau is and what he's done. Naturally, people will defer to him, seek him out, ask him questions and follow his lead. And really, would that be such a bad thing? It's not like he has a bad reputation. Not sure about the skills being horribly eroded, but the injuries are a concern. I agree with you about that. |

he's worked with dale lindsey before, he'd be a reserve and i doubt he'd take much time away from the other LBs cause, you know, he's been doing this for 17 years. If anything he'd help rocky and clemons come along FASTER because he's actually been a great LB for a VERY long time. his skills haven't eroded past usefulness yet, but he is an injury concern. And he wouldn't be an upgrade, he'd be INSURANCE, in case your 2 question marks and the amazing holdman have trouble or there's an injury. were you this harsh when we signed ray brown? a horribly old, skill-eroded FORTY-TWO year old offensive lineman who'd obviously take away too much coaching focus from the younger guys (since 15+ year vets have no possible way of knowing what to do at that point by themselves), and hurt the team's overall talent level just by his very presence on the roster? yeah, old guys always suck. I would have been much happier with raymer as our primary OL backup last year too :P |

Ray Brown was signed when Gibbs first came back, so he was actually a guy that the coaching staff had to spend LESS time with. That's the whole point, you want guys that can easily integrate, and Ray Brown was the perfect answer having played in Gibbs system under Bugel before. He was the one guy that knew what was going on while Gibbs and Bugel were coaching up the rest of the line. You're probably right about Seau not requiring much coaching attention, now that I think about it. He'd be expected to sit in meetings, put in the time learning the playbook, and use his experience to get the job done. But knowing Joe Gibbs, we're not going to sign any player for depth or insurance unless THEY CAN PLAY SPECIAL TEAMS. That's what our backups do, especially the LBs. Seau just doesn't fit. This one is all rumor and will never materialize, mark my words. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
Bugel only coached Ray Brown for one year the first go around.

i'm pretty sure he used to while with San diego play mlb, but when he went to Miami who have Thomas as their mlb he shifted to the outside so he can play both. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
I have yet to see this anywheres. not on espn tv or website. no other place. where is a link stating this "RUMOR"?
|
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
doesn't Seau have MRSA?
I would say the Seau if he would sign for veteran minumum would definitely improve the Redskins depth at LB. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
Bugel only coached Ray Brown for one year the first go around.
But he played in Gibbs' offense for four years, so whether Bugel was there for all of it or not, Ray Brown still spent four years learning the Gibbs offense and the Gibbs terminoligy. As far as the playbook was concerned, that put him way ahead of the others on the line. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
If joe and Greg are for it who am i to argue.
|
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
There are a couple of good options at a few positions I would look into Tommy Polley, Ahmad Plummer, Peter Boulware, Ron Stone, Grady Jackson, as well as Seau as possible options. Plummer especially because I think we need cb depth

I just don't see it happening LB. I'll be the first one to say you're right if it were to happen, but at this point in time I just don't see a need for a 37 year old LB whose best years are far behind him. We don't need LB's to tutor LB's we have great coaches to do that. We do have a couple areas where we could spend to help the team, OL & DB's come to mind, but not on a 37 year old with limited capacity to help. |

can't believe Michael Barrow hasn't been mentioned in this thread. Remember all that vet did for our LB corps?

caught up in the new york city hustle man. since the end of the season i bought an apt., renovated it, and am now busy trying to pay it for all. thanks for asking. never been far away from the 'path though, I lurk in regularly and check up on y'all. speaking of linebackers, it's going to be absolutely heartbreaking seeing Lavar join Antonio in the loathed blue uniform over here. I don't think Michael Barrow showered our guys with much special knowledge last year, so unless Seau comes cheap, better to focus on younger guys. at least i'll be able to check in on my boy Ramsey every week. the Jets and the Skins have a cool little bond going on (thanks for Santana and Randy!). |

We're going to have to get you to drop the "so far" part of that sentence |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
Seau is looking for his last payday, and he knows that every team in the NFL would only sign him to the veteran minimum--except maybe the Redskins. It's my guess that this is his last-ditch effort at trying to get a contract worth more than the veteran minimum. So, they say something like, "we are looking to sign for a little over the veteran minimum." It seems pretty obvious.
BTW, I don't think we should sign him for any amount over the veteran minimum (considering if all goes well, he probably would never play a down). |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
the thing iss, if he's terrible or whatnot, you can ditch him in final cuts, and forget the whole thing ever happened.
no one made a stink about ray brown, no one made a stink about andre dyson. It could be the same deal. either he makes it or he doesn't. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
I think anytime you can bring in a proven starter who was arguably the best player at his position it is a major positive.
I don't know how anyone could be against this (as long as they don't overpay). Except for Washington, every LB is a question mark. I love Marshall but he is hurt, we have no idea if Rocky can make the adjustment yet and God forbid either Marshall or Washington miss time. This is a no brainer, not to mention he can share his knowledge with all of the other LB's and teach the young ones how to play the game the right way. |
...not to mention he can share his knowledge with all of the other LB's and teach the young ones how to play the game the right way.
Sigh. Here we go again with the 'he can be a mentor to the younger guys' cliche. It is the responsibility of the coaches to teach rookies how to play, and to mentor them. Rocky and Clemons will "learn" just fine from Gregg Williams and Dale Lindsey. There's nothing that Junior Seau can do now, or used to do when he was in his prime that will somehow magically transform Rocky or Clemons into something they weren't before. The coaches have seen it all, and they know all the techniques that were taught to Junior Seau when he came into the league. It was his special, natural abilities that enabled him to exceed other linebackers who weren't as talented as him. Learning from Junior Seau isn't going make Rocky, Clemons or Marcus Washington better players, or somehow turn them into the player he once was -- which, I suspect, is what some fans hope for. So, can we please dispense with this notion once and for all? |

That notion is retarded. Seau, if he's signed, will come in to compete for a spot. He's not going to coach the guys who are competing for his spot. Someone please, PLEASE find me a situation in the NFL in which an old guy actually tutored a younger guy and made a difference in the younger guy's career? Players can try to learn from other players by watching how the best players go about their business, they can learn by example. But if you ask me, even if we sign Junior Seau, I don't want Rocky McIntosh watching the example Seau sets. I want him watching Marcus Washington. |
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
a potential hall of famer coming to any team will always be positive.the only thing that would bother me is the fact that he's played the majority of his career games in warm weather,(san diego/miami).al saunders i bet knows him pretty well we could use another lb.
|
Re: Junior Seau a Redskin??
in his younger days yeah go ahead and get him but for now i,ll pass.
we have good depth now i think with what we have now. |
