Here'sthe real question:
Is he any better than JoeTheisman, Doug Williams, or Mark Rypein?
3 avergae qb's, one awesome coach, 3 Superbowl victories.
I understand the point you're trying to make, but among the QBs you mentioned, I would have to say Theismann is quite a bit higher than 'average'. Check out some stats on him here:

From 1978-1984, he was consistently ranking in the top ten for statistical categories for quarterbacks, with an effective scrambling threat to boot. In fact, he was the last scrambling QB Washington had before Brunell.

It's been such a long time since he's played, and many of the members here at the Warpath have never seen him play. Most people think of him now as an annoying broadcaster, they forget that he really was a great player.

Edit: When the history books are written, the three best quarterbacks Washington ever had will be Baugh, Jurgenson, and Theismann.
Brunell threw decent long balls last season, but Santana Moss had to wait for some of those passes. With all these speedy WRs we have now, I hope Brunell is able to get the ball to them on stride.
Yes, he gets the ball out late on a lot of deep throws. This could be a factor of his age. With age you can get stronger, but you can't get quicker in terms of reflexes and your depth perception changes. So it may be that his arm is just as strong but he can't see the field & react in the quick fashion that he used to.
He's also much less likely to throw the ball into traffic or gamble than when he was young. Sometimes I think he was too conservative, but overall I'll give Brunelll his props & hope he can stay healthy. He deserves to end his career on a high note.

I can't believe we are having this conversation again. How many times did we have it during last season, and how many this offseason. In my mind Brunell should have been in the pro bowl. Vick should not have been there. The guy is a quality QB who can win games. Its been unproven if he can win the big game. I think with the talent we have around him this season it will be less pressure on him to win the game and just be one of the pieces that wins the game.

Definitely have to agree here. Theismann was much more than just an 'average' QB.

He and Eli should have been at the pro bowl, not Vick and Delhomme.

Guys I'd take over Brunell
Manning
Brady
McNabb
Culpepper
Green
Leftwhich
Palmer

Maybe Delhomme
I'd take Favre over Brunell also.
Check out some of the highlight clips from last season. When he's on, his passes are so on target it's ridiculous.
Yep. Ask Cowboys fans. Ask their secondary!
