Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

I saw Cooley hustle as much as he could and he got blocked. they were chasing a 1st string Corner, Brunell and the line were just being realistic. if anyone should have caught up to him, it should have been Lloyd.

bridaman51 08-14-2006 04:00 PM

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

I am sure several tried to hustle. I am just saying there was a real quick quite in several including Brunell. There is something you always teach people on plays where a play happens behind you and it is called the angle of pursuit. Brunell of course would not catch him but did have the perfect angle of pursuit and you dont need to be blazing if you got that. I am just saying I saw a lack of effort from others, and I am sure the coaching staff will address that with each player but to call out one certain player on a play that should not have even happened is a bit extreme.

i just took another look at the high(low)light on redskins.com.

the ENTIRE o-line was right there.

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

That is great like I said I am sure some did hustle and If a 300+ Lbs lineman can be there so can Brunell. I know he gotta be faster than them. And how bout hustling to the ball? more players you have around the ball the better chance of something good happening to you. I never said everyone gave up just saying if you going to call out one player call them all out that did the same thing. Obviously the O-line hustled probably cause they are afraid of what Bugel would have done if they didnt.

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

We cannot really blame lloyd..brunell was under pressure...just trying to throw it away....underthrew it due to the fact that it was across his body...lloyd was still running the opposite direction....i dont care who you are...give a 1st string corner atleast 10 steps...ur not catching him.....

Defenitley not from behind you are'nt.

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

ok, fine, yeah Brunell should have been there too.

as a 36 year old QB though, i've let him off the hook. i'd expect him to have the "situational awareness" to let the other more physical guys try and catch up.

and oh yeah, he had just been freshly planted on the turf. thats why he tried to throw it away in the first place.

DaveyFoSho 08-14-2006 04:26 PM

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

Exactly...just one of those freak plays and we were unfortunate enough to have only portis who was several yards behind the play in a position to make a tackle...freak play..nobody's fault really...unless you want to blame the o-line for the bull-rush forcing brunell to have to throw it away...but even that is grasping...bottom line...it was pre-season and the first game...our boys still showed promise...bring on the vikings :spank:

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

And I am sure if the game counted all of them would have. Our defense sure does and I think Williams and Saunders talk about things so I am sure the coaches will make sure that if that happens in the future there will be 11 guys on his tail.
what bryant are we talking about? antonio? talk about trashing ones team and some serious character issues. how long until he is bitching because no one can get him the ball? first game?
I know Antonio Bryant has had some issues in the past but that was 2 years ago and only one incident. He has since admited that he made the wrong choices.

I dont know when/if Bryant will bitch but he didnt have any issues against the Bears. Alex hit him 5 time for 56 yds and was on pace for 100+ yd game.
clipped myself from the other thread:

jeez let the guy [Rexi] speak, we want other teams' fans (as long as they're knowledeable) on here don't we?

right now Lloyd is on my shit list for his lack of effort on that Brunell interception, and the ensuing return. if he put in half the effort Portis did on that play, we wouldn't have to bear seeing a true no.1 in a sling.
Thank you, more evidence against Brandon Lloyd.

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

I'm not even sure if it made a difference whether Lloyd tried to catch the CB or not after he ran the wrong route. He really doesnt have great speed or the strength to shed a blocker or even if he made it to the guy, a tackle.

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

Rexi, how would you know if Lloyd is doing things correctly? You have been watching the 49ers the last two years.

That offense could have Randy Moss and T.O. and still look like the keystone cops.

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

yeah, bryant made an apology the same year he was playing for a contract. really heart felt ill bet. you guys need a world of help and what does your front office do? yup, draft a friggin tight end. granted davis is a monster, but you had alot of other pressing needs that could of been addressed by trading down. sooner or later your going to have to get some offensive lineman to keep smith upright. and not 75 year old lineman like larry allen

I am a firm believer that you use the best player available philosophy when aproaching the draft. Vernon Davis was the best TE and the best WR available and Smith needs all the targets he can get.

We have a pretty solid offensive line as it is IMO. LT Jonas Jennings is a mauler when healthy. LG Larry Allen's best years are behind him but those who think that Allen isn't still a premiere Guard are kidding themselves. He makes this whole line better simply by being here and spreading the nasty streak he plays with around. Oh yeah and he can still throw around some of the leagues best defensive linemen. C Jeremy Newberry is forced to retire due to injury, however Nolan was prepared for this and named Eric Heitmann a very intelligent and talented veteran the starter until Newberry could practice. RG Justin Smiley is one of the leagues most up and coming guards, but now will have to improve his drive blocking in Turner's new scheme. At RT the disappointing so far Kwame Harris is battling the versatile Adam Snyder for the job. Reports so far have stated that Harris is holding his own so far and is looking much improved. Depth like Snyder and G David Bass is hard to come by. So, while our line is young there is no denying the talent and potential this unit has. In fridays game, the line held its own against the Bears defense ranked #2 overall last year (#1 in points allowed) as no 49er QB was touched all night.

From the other thread:
As to your first point, I'm not sure what you are getting at. Why do you think Lloyd ducked his head?
Lloyd ducked his head because he didnt want to get hit over the middle, why else would a WR duck when a ball was thrown his way besides fear?
Your second point is somewhat reasonable. At least you admit that your receiving corps was bad last year. Who, besides Bryant, have the 49ers added at wideout?
We added the Bryan Gilmore from Miami, who our WR Coach Jerry Sullivan takes everywhere he coaches. He is the fastest player on the team and catches a nice deep ball. With the 1st pick we got for Lloyd we took Brandon Williams out of Wisconsin in the 3rd, another speedy receiver who has is said to be rather elusive. He will also handle the KR/PR duties as Rasheed Marshall's conversion from QB to WR/KR/PR hasn't seemed to work out. And of course lets not forget Vernon Davis who will be split out wide a considerable amount of time.
I still strongly disagree with your last point. Are you really saying that Brandon Lloyd intentionally slowed down to make a leaping catch instead of running one in for a touchdown? You really can't be serious.
I am serious, it's what he did. He did it time and time again when he was in SF, he is just afraid of contact.

Pocket$ $traight 08-14-2006 09:53 PM

Re: B Lloyd - I'm starting to despise this worthless piece of trash

If Lloyd was afraid of contact why would he leap 3 feet in the air and extend one arm as high as he could to catch a ball with a safety and cornerback 6 inches away. Seems to contradict your "point" Rexi. Don't worry, Taylor Jacobs makes plays like that all the time HA HA HA HA

(Note: No team will ever need a safety and corner to cover Jacobs)

You make absolutely no sense. You don't think a wide receiver is expecting to get hit if they fully extend with a corner and a safety all over them? That play was pretty much in the middle of the field. Rexi. Face it, your points are all wrong and now you get to watch Antonio "Melanoma" Bryant and Taylor "Training Room" Jacobs.

I saw that Antonio Bryant made the play of the day in practice. Hmm, why do I think that was probably Walt Harris covering him...

Comparing these two dont help me take you seriously which I am trying very hard to do right now. Bryant>Lloyd. Bryant is a big, physical WR who will actually run a slant over the middle, break some tackles, and get some YAC. Lloyd has yet to do any of those things. He is a red zone weapon at best because of his jumping ability but you could get that from any tall TE with mediocre pass catching skills.

I am glad that you are trying to take me seriously. Everything that you post makes me laugh. So Brandon Lloyd is essentially a "tall TE with mediocre catching skills". (My vote for most absurd football post ever) Have you ever watched the game?

I likened him to a tall TE because of his lack of mobility compared to other WR's and his jumping skills.

Good point. In '04 we went to their joint and knocked their stadium down. Last year they came here and we humiliated them.

I understand why he would hate us. We beat the shit out of them the last two years and now we have 3 of their #1 picks.

i think rexi makes some valid points looking at the nfl world thru 49er glasses. he has antonio bryant as a #1 receiver, so he is saying all the right things about HIS team and its players. very rarely does a fan rip the starters of the team they root for(except around here) the niners have no where to go but up, and are trying to do it the right way, with younger guys that can mature together. well i am not sold on their coaching staff, like they say "time will tell" i hope rexi and other teams fans continue to come around. it gives a different viewpoint. hint to 5rings and dboyz

Lloyd is decent but I am a bit concerned about whether he will step up and be a valuable #2. I was very impressed with the catch he had on Sunday but then again I didn't see him hustle back to catch the DB after the INT and some have suggested he was suppose to alter his route and partial to blame for the INT.

The point is Lloyd hasn't proven himself yet. I hope he does. If we get 900 yards out of him I'll be ecstatic.

As for Antonio Bryant, well, you'd be mistaken to think he is worth a damn. He left Dallas after thinking he was god's gift to man and there was a reason why Cleveland didn't want to resign him. Frankly, now he is playing for a bottom feeding 49'ers team. Yeah, good luck with that.

I'm reading straight from Lloyd's blurb in the Pro Football Prospectus 2006.
Lloyd is developing into a Marcus Robinson type-he'll outjump anyone for the ball and catch some deep passes, but he's timid over the middle and disappears for long stretches. He seemed to be a better citizen in 2005, but the talent-poor Niners wouldn't have traded him for midround draft picks if he was a locker room favorite. He'll probably start for the Redskins with Antwaan Randle El playing in the slot. As for his rap career (creative stage name: B.Lloyd) let's just say that neither Allen Iverson nor William Hung feels threatened.
His stats are projected at 37 REC for 512 yards and 2 TDs.
