Re: Time to bench Brunell?
to all who feel we should leave the decision of whether or not to bench brunell up to what happens next week,
WHAT WILL THAT PROVE? ANY LIMP WRISTED qb IN THE LEAGUE, COLLEGE FO THAT MATTER, CAN PASS AGAINST THE TEXANS. THEY ARE AS GOOD AS MY TOWN PEEWEE LEAGUE TEAM. MAYBE IF THE SKINS WERE AT LEAST PLAYINGG AGAINST A MEDEOCURE TEAM I WOULD LEAVE IT UP TO NEXT WEEK, BUT WE'RE NOT. LETS STOP THE BLEEDING AND GIVE CAMPBELL A LEGITAMATE SHOT, UNLIKE THE ONE RAMSEY WAS GIVEN. |

did he REALLY get his shot...an as for "in new york"...why wasnt he used in the final plays of the game today? |
This is my first post here. So ALOHA everyone and hang in there. I could not of been more frustrated watching a game as i was today. Brunell's bounce passes and "paranoid" game management sure is irritating. O-line needs to take a long hard look at themselves as well. Im not sure if benching Brunell is our best option right now. All I can say is it is going to be a long painful week in my sports world.
WELCOME!! Personally I think there are very few here who will beg to differ with you. |

Exactly my point! You earn your shots in the NFL. And if Ramsey was so shaffted (don't if that's a word) in Washington, why in the hell couldn't beat out Pennington? You can't say he didn't get a fair shake in NY. For the record, I'm not responding to anymore Ramsey non-sense. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
But I'll leave the subject alone b/c all I am doing is making my mood and outcome worst. Whatever, if optimism still exist tell the team that. Have them turn it around and go all the way. When that happens burn me at the stake. We cant start the season over till next year. I hate this constant revolving door of players, coaching schemesb/c impact draft picks are few and far between, washed up veterans with huge contracts get signed, and worst of all the penalties. It be nice to get grounded and rooted where everyone knows what is expected and how to execute.
I just benched Brunell in my Madden season and am starting over at week 1. I can always trust that I bring home a lombardi in the fantasy world at least. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
I agree with Doc Walker. Campbell cannot do any worse.. Brunell had 45 yds passing before that last drive.. 45!!!!!! That is unacceptable from an NFL QB!!! Put Campbell in there with Portis, Moss, Lloyd, Cooley, etc and let him figure it out.. It's not giving up on the season, we're 0-2, the season (thusfar) has been a disaster anyways, what are we risking?
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
All I've gotta say is, time to pull Brunell.

Re: Time to bench Brunell?
boonell needs to step aside....i believe i saw more guys open on t.v. than he did....down field open guys at that. he has not taken a shot down the field yet. last week there was one completion to moss for 34. that is it. i think cooley should cut that hair where he could get a step on someone and get open. he has been smothered and nonexistent. could the d line please get some pressure on the qb. the corners would not have to work so hard if they could. bledsoe had all day.
let's hope for major improvement. next week might be as easy as it will get this season. |

If Campbell starts the offense will go into the toilet.

Any questions? |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
I said in one of my post during the week that Brunell has to play better for us to have any chance at winning, he didn't do it. I have always been a supporter of this guy but right now I'm at a crossroads where he is concerned, and it could very well be the time now for JG to think about a change even though Brunell is not the only reason why we're not winning.

Brunell Solely Responsible for Loss?
I believe Mark Brunell's inability to throw the ball downfield or get the ball in playmaker's hands is the major reason the Redskins lost. He never looked comfortable in the pocket all night even though pass protection was overall adequate under the circumstances. Something is up with his confidence or his mechanics because several times during the evening he was unable to make the routine throw.

Re: Bench Brunell
I told this since Pre season Brunell just looks off he looks lost I don't know if ti's that he doesn't get Sauders Offfense, or he just doesn't has it any more
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
cooler heads must prevail, however if he sucks against the texans he needs to be benched for campbell

Re: Bench Brunell
brunell looks like he is too worried with making a mistake, dude needs to play and not always looking to throw it away
|
Re: Bench Brunell
I heard Brunell is so lost the team has to dress him and that during TV timeouts he wonders into the other teams huddles and tells them the play.
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
id pull now as well, brunell (knowing the offense or not) is now a QB we have to max protect all the time and send out cooley and moss. if you watch the game, he is so damn timid when anyone is near. he will fold under pressure and holds the ball so damn long for the end result to be a sack. no matter the offensive calls, you will always have pressure, and thats something brunell obviously cannot handle and w/o legs.... he is a guy scared who cant even run away. the pass that was int'd was so horrible, it looked like one of frost's punts. IF ANYTHING, CAMPBELL WILL ATLEAST GIVE US MORE SCRAMBLE ABILITY. SO IF CAMPBELL SUCKS JUST AS BAD AS BRUNELL, WE WILL ATLEAST HAVE A GUY THE WOULD CREATE MORE PLAYMAKING ABILITY AND THAT CHANCE IS ALWAYS THERE.... WITH BRUNELL ITS FLAT OUT NOT THERE.

Re: Brunell Solely Responsible for Loss?
I have to start off by saying what I imagine many were thinking at the beginning of this season: that the Skins were going to be even better this year. They made some key acquisitions (not just big names as they have in the past), they brought an offensive guru, and got rid of a potential distraction (Arrington...though I did question it at the time). I unfortunately see a team in every bit of an offensive funk as they were towards the tail end of the season of 05. Against Philidelphia in the last game the offense looked a little suspect, then against Tampa Bay it was dead, and again Seattle it was never revived. Since those games the progression has only become worse. Four straight awful preseason games followed by two pathetic regular season games for a total of potentially nine games now that they looked poor on offense. So one has to begin to question what happened around this time....and there it is. The injury to Brunell. Since that time Brunell has been playing not to get hurt and not to win. The fire in Brunell is not only gone but completely burned out. When the fire of Brad Johnson (who is almost 2 years Brunells senior) is greater we have real problems. Did any notice Brad's comments when he scored the tying touchdown...something like "motherf&*&er". I would love to have a quaterback with that passion. Instead after each unnecessary toss away pass, or patheticly missed throw he walks off the field with an air of smug appathy and acceptace of his feeble abilities. He looks to Gibbs as if saying "I'm not sure what happened". I can tell you what happened. You are way way past your prime, and your passion for this game and for winning is nonexsistent to the point that it is apparent in every play you are a part of. In short...the time is to move on. Not next season...not in 4 games..but next game. Anyone who thinks we are going to even make it to the playoffs this year is fooling themselves...not in this division...not this year. If we accept that the future is Jason Cambell then why not move in this direction now. Give the kid a chance to grow and if we finish poor this season at least we may get a decent draft from it. I finish with this.
The defense and special...not the offense kept us in the game. And when the defense put the Skins in a position to tie at the 40 yard line it was not Cooley, Moss, Betts, Al Saunders, or Gibbs who gave away the drive and in the end lost the game. It was Brunell! |

I kinda agree with your assessment of brunells complete ineptness...and i wouldnt be against a move to campbell...
However i will not write off the season right now. Ive waited too damn long for it to be redskins season...to just write it off after two shitty games. If its time for the campbell era to begin (which in it seems to be) so be it. Then lets hope Jason campbell...is our own Roethlisberger waiting in the wings...and its time to get behind him to lead us to a SB!!! |

Re: Time to bench Brunell?
That is what's really scary. Let me create the scenario. Imagine if the O line again looks weak. If they can pressure Brunell the offense essentially shuts down. The D probably will hold against a weak Texans team, but the possiblity that a team like the Texans could even complete against the Skins tells you how low we have gone. There has to be a change. At least with Cambell I assume he would be more adept at escaping the rush a perhaps make they pay for it a few times with a pass or run.
To go on the record.....I want nothing more than for the Redskins to make the playoffs (I have been waiting 15 years since the last SB)..and I hate to even contemplate not making it....but surely everyone is aware of our current hole. All the more reason for a major change. This team, in the state its in, is not capable of that fundental mental shift without a manmade change....I.E....Brunell. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Just one last thing....Let's look at history and the teams that we all respect and admire the most...the teams who create a dynasty...whether it be 2,3, or 4 years. Each and everyone of those dynasties had one common but extremely important similiarity: A Franchise Quaterback. How many of you are sick of going through QB after QB season after season. There is absolutely no way Brunell is the Franchise Quaterback and to be honest I can't think of in the last 20 some odd years that we have had a better chance for a Franchise Quaterback than Cambell. He's young, he was talented in College, and he has been under only one coach in the pros...Gibbs. We have what we have always wanted (untested no less), but its all there. There is only one way to really know.
Start Cambell next week. |
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Brunell is no longer a good QB, however you need to think about your alternatives. If Brunell is the best you have, you have to go with him. That's like if Eli is playing poorly, should the Giants bench him for Jared Lorenzen?
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
i hate to say i told you so. last year for brunell was a fluke. no arm strength,no legs looking to throw the ball away or go down. its a damn shame that gibbs is going to throw awaythe season for loyality to brunell when ramsey wasnt this bad playing for coach gibbs.
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
4 more weeks. If we get Portis back next week, we have Houston, Jacksonville, NY Giants and Tennesee, a couple big games and a couple teams we should beat and the opportunity to get some momentum going.
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Wow, what happened to the 2006 skins I have been seeing in my head the whole off-season? Hopefully, not gone. Just MIA. Replacing Brunell is not the answer at this point. the season is young, and while serious, our season is not done. We have fundamental problems that have to be fixed before it can be Brunell's fault. We have David Carr syndrom. The other teams D is spending way to much time chasing our QB. We need a runing game. Where the hell did our O-line go? Important safety tip: This is bad!!!! 300 yards in penalties does not a win make!!!!!! Can anyone name a team that changed QB's in the season that actually improved their situation? I personally do not know. Oh yea, Note to Springs-We MISS YOU
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
Brunnell is making the O-line look worse than it is on passing plays. There is no speed or urgency to the way he takes the snap, drops back and fires the ball to a receiver. If you go back and look at the first quarter, MB had plenty of protection and couldn't get the ball to anyone. This is a COMBINATION of having lost his courage/passion/whatever AND having a new 700 page playbook. This dog is not only lame, but he ain't learning any new tricks.
Whether we bench him now comes down to what's best for JC's development. The WIN NOW AT ALL COSTS mentality of this franchise has been what's killed us in the Snyder era . . . no methodical development of draft picks, coaching staff, etc . . . so if throwing JC out there is going to shellshock the lad, don't do it. On the other hand, if he's our guy for the future, playing is the only way to get better. |
Re: Bench Brunell
campbell is accurate. yeah he'll make mistakes, but at this point, can you honestly see brunell leading the skins to a superbowl??
I can't, and if we want a run before the window closes, we need to see if we've got a guy to get us there. He'll never get experience if you keep saying we can't put him because he doesn't have experience. and next year brunell will just be older and an even bigger injury risk. he hasn't made it through an entire season healthy in the last four or five years. If he doesn't show something by halftime against one of the VERY worst teams in the league, it's time to see what we've got in campbell, cause cause we won't get to the postseason like this (and i'm not assuming campbell is going to come in and play like a pro bowler). I just want to see something to prove that we're better than the lions :/. |

Well technically the Patriots in 2001 started 0-2 and switched from Bledsoe to Brady shortly thereafter. The rest, as they say, is history. Nice post though, I agree with what you say |
Re: Brunell Solely Responsible for Loss?
its not just him, but i think he is a primary cause, and i'm not really sure saunders was really needed that badly.
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
if brunell isnt grasping this offense, it makes absolutely no sense to stick j campbell as the starter. learning the ins and outs of the nfl is complicated enough without trying to learn a new offense for like the 6th year in a row
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
we seriously need to try and throw the ball alittle over 20 yards when its not third and long. our playcalling was horrible. are they trying to protect brunells arm strength? only the coaches know that answer
|
Re: Time to bench Brunell?
I think putting in Campbell against the Texans would be the best game to do it. They are one of the weaker opponents we are going to face this year. I don't know how many more games I can get my hopes up so high, just to be dashed. We looked worse than the last playoff game against Seattle. I really did not think it could get worse than that. I am aware of the new offense and all that but we bring in 2 new recievers and we are only able to get the ball to them 2 times? Lloyd has 2 games under his belt and 1 catch. I think we start Campbell next game and see what happens. Could he be any worse?
