fickle-fans always...winning solves many problems...pre-season was a disaster, it has created this hostile atmosphere...#8-(joke)was great...MB- "throw the ball down the feild!"... "smash-mouth" I would love to see, especially Nov. 5th..... look-out Texans, the Skins need a great game!

I agree with you 100%.why not let jason cambell get som playing time this week,because the next three games(jags at home,giants on the road and colts on the road)it,s on now and real fans need to reconize it.we can,t afford to give away games that we sould win period.i trust joe,s decisions but when is enough enough?the only bright spot on the team is sean taylor,that boy is an animal,and we can,t expect him to do everything.

Matty, don't you think complacently going along is also a form of jackassery? Something is wrong, that obviously the mighty Gibbs couldn't fix before the season, so there must be some problems. He's a coach, he makes a lot of mistakes. If he didn't football wouldn't be fun.

Jackassery is thinking that with the help of a TiVo, we as fans are more in the know than the coaches and players.

Nobody is denying something is wrong and things need to be fixed. I don't think there is a Redskins fan alive that would deny that. I don't think any of us are complacent right now. We want changes, but do I know more than Gibbs and company because I can watch a game in slow motion with my TiVo?

In the end some of us just trust that the coaches know what's going on and will get things turned around.

Excuse me, but I don't think any of us TiVo users ever claimed to know more than the coaches, we (offiss and I) merely rewatch the games to see who appears to have screwed up so we can discuss the players here on this forum. If jackassery is what we are doing, then "headupurassness" are those that constantly criticize anyone who questions the players or coaches. We don't claim to have the knowledge and know how of the coaches, but that doesn't mean we cant criticize. Under your logic no one on this site could ever criticize this team unless they were in the Football Hall of Fame.

I am one of those who truly believe's this coaching staff will get things turned in a positive direction. I recall so well JG first year here we went 0-5, I didn't loose faith then, and I won't now. I believe we will win every game we play. Will I predict it, NO Will I bet it NO but regardless of the score
or time in the game I always believe we're going to win. I will watch every minute of every quarter of every game, we never loose we just run out of time. If I didn't have that kind of faith it wouldn't make sense for me to watch the games at all.

I feel like this is a never ending argument between the glass is half empty people and the glass is half full people.

I'm not saying don't criticize. I have never said that, and I myself have openly questioned plenty of things. I started the thread asking if Saunders was a mistake.

Whether it's intentional or not, some people just come off with this attitude like, I watched the game again on TiVo so I know what's really going on.

Every time a critical point comes up I always just see "we don't know as much as Gibbs and his 4 rings."

We're not in the know, this is for sure, but this board would be awful boring without plenty of speculation. I think most of the people that come on this board are fairly educated fans who don't really jump to conclusions. The thing about Tivo is with it you can see what mistakes were being made. Everyone will disagree on the exact problems, but coaching staffs do that all the time. I know when I rewatch games, rewind parts, etc I often change my mind about what went wrong or happened on a play.

HOHO Screw Art History tests. Im burnt out! I wouldn't be suprised to see Gibbs get a 4th ring with the 'skins, but I think he'd be involved in some other facet of the game besides coaching. I don't think we have the correct talent and enough consistancy yet to make a run, and I dont see him re-upping his contract. He's getting old, and coaching isn't easy on the body or mind.

When we lost our first five games of the 81 season it was obvious the team was not that far away. We were loosing games but you could tell it was going to be just a matter of time before they started winning. Couple that with the coaching tree of which JG derived, I was convinced the team was going to be successful. We looked better loosing then than we do now.

Really where was I pumping up Ramsey? As usuall you see the name Ramsey and without the ability to comprehend you immediatly go into an anti Ramsey mantra.

How did Ramsey do last week? A lot better than Brunell, at least he has value as a backup QB to a pretty good QB in Pennington when healthy, where as Brunell should be in the broadcast booth. Unfortuantly we can't do that because we have no legitamate backup.

Absolutly! I remember it well, we were loaded with talent it was a huge surprise that we had lost those games, you could see even early on that Gibbs was a real inovator, the big thing with those teams of the 80's and early 90's is this, when we took the field Gibbs had the luxuory all those years to usually have the best offensive line on the field, he was able to do what he wanted offensivly because the line made it happen, that's not taking place anymore and there lies the struggle. As bad as I believe Brunell is, I still believe with the right offensive line Gibbs could win a championship with him, a good QB would make it a lot easier though.

We all know how good Bobby beathard was, but I don't think any of us really realized how important he was to Gibbs success. As we watch draft after draft and we come away with a no brainer 1st rd pick and that's it, we then look back at the kind of talent BB brought in, and how he used the draft to build a dynasty, somewhere BB is laughing saying, I told you so Joe.

Re: Problems, And Excuses!

trusting the coaches to leave brunell in for 9 weeks in 2004 was a mistake. It's not like that can't or haven't been wrong before, and that 2004 team was capable of much better than 6-10 and the 29th ranked offense.

brunell had some amazing games, but he was done again by the eagles game and played like this in both playoff games and the preseason (which i said at the time was misused).

I don't think they're idiots, but i think it's legit to question whether this can really be a superbowl team at this clip. The players say they run plays with success in practice, but I kinda wonder, do the offensive and defensive lines give each other a false sense of security since they're both underperforming? and does brunell's success in 9 on 7 drills (no hitting the QB) keep him on the field (where he looks incompetent while focused on looking for pressure)?

Last year was the best year of brunell's career, he has the absolute worst come from behind record in the NFL and the jags where able to win with 3 different QBs in 3 different weeks when he was out there (no name guys, before leftwich)... not that any of that explains the current situation, but he hasn't been healthy for an entire season for a long time, and he's never been a great QB (which is what al saunders is used to having).

I'm still waiting on the texan's game, but if they can't figure it out there, it's seriously time to at least see if it's the QB, cause i DID see balls skipping off the ground among other 2004 highlights last sunday.

maybe he does have another miracle spurt left, but the last one was only good for about 12 games, and with his age and the wear he's taken, I'd be surprised if another spurt lasts as long.

What do you cosider "close"?

One could certainly say that Portis has the appearance of a potentnial HOFer. Remember those guys you said were HOFers were once "not even close" too because they were young. I went back and looked at Brunell's stats at the last half of the '05 season. Even during the winning streak, Brunell was very average. Check these numbers:

@ Tampa Bay, 23 for 35, 226 yards passing
Oakland, 14 for 32, 155 yards passing
San Diego, 17 for 27, 194 yards passing
@St. Louis, 14 for 21, 156 yards passing
@Arizona, 18 for 28, 122 yards passing
Dallas, 12 for 20, 163 yards passing
NY Giants, 7 for 11, 124 yards passing (INJURED)
@Philly, 9 for 25, 141 yards passing
@Tampa Bay, 7 for 15, 41 yards passing

Total: 121 for 214 (57%), 1322 yards passing (147 yards per game)

Now, you might say, “well, he only had Moss and Cooley to throw to”, and while that’s true, you have to remember Gibbs renewed his effort to emphasize the running game. So even if there were other options to throw to, I would submit that his stats would have remained about the same. But looking at these numbers, one wonders just what we were expecting from Brunell this year.

Exactly! Even if you look at all of last season, he only had 3-4 exceptional games, which means in the 2+ seasons he's been a Redskin, he's had 3-4 above average performances out of 29. With those kinds of numbers, it just baffles me that Gibbs is so dead set on leaving Brunell in, no matter how crappy he plays.

Joe Jacoby, Mark Schlereth, Jeff Bostic, Raleigh McKenzie, Jim Lachey. Thats who we need. Someone call up that sasquatch ass Joe Jacoby. That is, if he can still walk. I can't believe 14 years ago we were THAT dominant, and now, with better coaches, and better personnel, we can't do the same. The game hasn't changed, THAT much. Ted Marchubrota.... Ritchie Pettibon... Gregg Williams is just as good. We had NO NAMES on that team. Martin Mayhew? A.J. Johnson? C'MON!
Look at this.

Ricky Ervins/Gerald Riggs/Earnest Byner=
Ladell Betts/T.J. Duckett/Clinton Portis.

Mark Rypien/Mark Brunell (very questionable, but in MB's day, very similar)

I think.... we need more line formations from the 91-92 season. Anyone remember Heavy Jumbo? 4 TE's? LOL bring that shit back.

3 WR
Split back
Jumbo 2 wr's, 2 TE's
Heavy Jumbo 4 TE'S!!!!!!!

Well, I counted only the last half of the season, which means I also left out the first NY Giant game, where he was 11 for 28 and 65 yards. And Brunell threw for 322 yards against the Broncos, not 390.

The point was to illustrate that even during the 36-35 shootout with Tampa Bay, and the games that followed, he didn't eclipse the 200 yard passing mark for the remainder of the season. So his decline started way before this preseason and weeks 1 and 2.

Not that any of this matters to Joe Gibbs though ...
