Coudn't hurt to bring him in -- there's no place for this secondary to go but up.

Also, notice how the cries for Ade Jimoh seem to have died down after getting beaten for the first TD on Sunday?

Funny how that works.
And springs is the best corner in the league...sure

Re: Nate Clements on Trading Block

I actually thought Clements may be the No1. target for the FO this offseason. I think it is strange that he is on the block though and I am not sure we have ANYTHING to trade for him unless they really want Vincent back.

Clements is an example of an underated good young CB who has played and flourished under Williams and Gray kind of like a young Springs and I don't like the idea of using our first for him I am reminded of the likes of Gardner. LaVar, Heath Shular, Patrick Ramsey, Tre Johnson all first round picks that never panned out then I remeber I am all for proven talent over 1st round bust.

The bigest problem I would have is who do we move out of the secondary to make room for him?

Re: Nate Clements on Trading Block

We are in hell back there in the secondary, and if Clements is available and all it would take is a number one draft choice, I think that it is worth it.

If we can get stabilized back there, it will change the character of the team I think. We can go back to being aggressive on defense. If he had been on the team at the beginning of the year, we would have perhaps been able to win two of the games we have lost.

Sign him now for a number one and get him under a long term contract.

Lets not squander our few remaining draft picks on what is becoming a lost season. Our 1st round pick gets more valuable every time our lousy defense steps on the field. Play out the season and regroup and assess the needs in the offseason.

I sincerely think our offense gets fixed when Brunell is no longer at the helm, so we're set there, even though I'd like to see us draft some "lower" round picks on offensive linemen. I'd love to see us maybe take a shot at a DE or some DTs in the draft.

Re: Nate Clements on Trading Block

There is one quick thought though . Lets say we did get him for a first and I really cannot see that happening but lets say we did and then he steps on the field after the bye and solidifies the defence along with Vincent and we make a major run in the second half of the season we could end up a low first round pick that falls into the possbile swap region of the Ducket trade with Denver ... then what happens if we don't have the goods to satisfy that trade or the one with the Bills .

Hopefully he will be in a Skins uniform soon though either the end of the year or now with his ties to both GW and Grey if he wanted to rekindle things and be paid in bucket loads of cash here would be a great fit .

Re: Nate Clements on Trading Block

You could be right - there is a decent chance he will sign with us after the season, but that is a serious "if". If he doesn't get traded, if he doesn't get a much bigger offer elsewhere. How will we strengthen our secondary in the offseason if Clements isn't signable? Rogers has all the tools, and he will put it all together eventually, but we need a veteran presence back there. We can't afford to have him develop in a starting role. I say sign Clements now if it is possible, move Rogers to a nickel role, and let him develop more and eventually replace Springs when he is ready to move to a backup position.

Let's say the price is a 1st round pick....

How many players in the draft are going to be locks to perform at the level that Clements is and has?

For a 1st round pick, Clements would be a steal.

how bout duckett & a late rnd. pick(4-7)?
Archuleta for Matt Bowen!...sigh, who'd have thought when we signed Archuleta we were just getting Bowen with hair?
i believe daseal said "he's just an expenssive version of matt bowen" the day he was signed.

Re: Nate Clements on Trading Block

as for corners going on the market... two years ago had them like mad. springs, champ, henry, rolle, dyson, baxter, then ty law, woodson (they're old now).

he's worth money, but i'm not sure we have a whole ton of cap space since the FO rushed out to waste all that extra room as fast as possible. he's not as good as bailey, and he's probably going to want 7.5+ a year.

I don't think he comes here. other teams will be more willing/able to pay him.

so why hasn't this happened yet??

i'd much rather bet on a young but proven NFL CB, then on another Rogers draft bust.

lets all get this straight now. hes not a bust. he really ahs been defending just fine. if he stays hurt, we can call him a bust, but he played a whole game with a broken finger.

Since the trading deadline has come and gone, I think this thread has pretty much run it's course.
