For a second there I thought you were going to say "genital warts;" I'm glad you didn't.

I am young, and I haven't seen all the great QBs play ... but, I think manning is the best QB ever (based on throwing ability and decision making).

... let's not forget that he threw 49 TDs in one season. That's a lot for a single team -- let alone a single player.

Re: Brady or Manning?
Listening to NFL radio today this subject came up. One caller in particular made an excellent point. He says he is sick of hearing the 3 super bowl rings as the reason Brady is a superior quarterback. First of all, it's nearly impossible to base an individual position on winning. Winning comes from a whole team not one person, the only reliable way to look at it is stats, and even those are flawed.

He also said everyone notes how great Brady would be with those receivers, but fail to look at the flip-side. How good would Manning be with that defense?

If given my pick, I'd take Manning in a second. Switch Manning with Brady, and I feel that Manning has 3, maybe more, rings too.
Good points but you can't switch and everytime Peyton has had a chance he has fallen short. Last year the Colts D was ranked 11th in the NFL and with the Colts ability to score that was more than good enough. You can have all the stats in the world but they play to win the SB. As of right now Brady is the only one of them that has done that and I believe they both have about the same number of years playing.

Re: Brady or Manning?
Tom Brady wins no matter who is around him. I like them both and Peyton's numbers are impossible to argue with. However, I think the rings speak louder than anything else. Let's see what happens now that Peyton has Vinatieri, though. I say, let's get through this year and then have this conversation again. I think I'd rather have Manning, but he's not really the great big game QB. Hard to say...one thing I do know, I'd take either over any qb the Skins have had in the last 14 years!
Rings speak louder than anything else? Blah blah, you sound like a Cowboys fan always talking about your rings, lol. Brady didnt get the rings by himself. Vinetari is also a colt now...that man earned those rings as much as brady. Manning was good and won without a defense for many years.

Id have to say Manning, its just somethign special to watch when he was the ball.

If you put both of these players in say... Arizona -- what do you think each would do. That's the true test of whos a better QB.

Re: Brady or Manning?

I think brady would do better in arizona, i feel like he's less of a statue and moves about the pocket better than manning. I feel like brady can make more out of nothing than manning for some reason.

Arizona is a bad team to use, bc they have good recievers. Let's say put both on the Raiders, and see who does the best.

This is Montana Marino all over again...Brady is on a better team...I would take Peyton. If Peyton had New Englands defense all these years he would have a Super Bowl.

Rexi 11-01-2006 10:39 PM

Re: Brady or Manning?

I would take Peyton, the guy is a machine. I mean people make the argument that because of his receivers Brady is clearly superior, but Montana is regarded as being the best QB ever and having the greatest WR duo of all time has never been a knock on him. I think if Peyton had WR's like Brady has it wouldn't hurt him much, he would adapt to that. I think if Peyton had Belichick as his HC and a defense he would have a had similar success to Brady if not more.

Re: Brady or Manning?
the one thing that separates the two QB's is the mental strength of Brady, and lack their of in peyton.
That is a great point. Manning through out his career, especially in college, has had the reputation that he can not win the big game. He did not handle presure situations well. He won his first playoff game of his career last year. He has been in the league how long???

Another thing Brady does better than any other QB in the NFL is he does a great job of sensing the rush, even behind him. Brady is a good at eluding that pass rush. he does not get sacked often.

The rule changes have really helped Manning. A past knock on Manning was if you got to him early and hit him hard it made him play poorly. But now with all these shitty rules you can't even breath on a QB, his play has really taken off this year.
Manning really does look strong this year.

So he won his first playoff game in his sixth season in the NFL and has a grand total of 3 playoff wins in 9 season? Not very strong.

Tom Brady's career playoff record is 10-1 and three superbowls wins?
Strong!

True Brady has a very impressive playoff record, but he didn't carry those teams, he certainly helped them win though and contributed to it a lot. But he had great teams to help him, great coaches, and a kicker who Tom owes a good chunk of his success to. Things Peyton has not had. They are both great QB's but I fear Peyton going against my defense more than any other QB in the NFL.

Re: Brady or Manning?

I'd argue if the Raiders would have won that game, the Patriots never go on their run.

The Zimmermans 11-02-2006 09:32 AM

Re: Brady or Manning?

the kicker winning those games for brady is BS, brady is the one that gets them down the field in under 2 minutes every frickin year. Viniatieri or however u spell it has not had to make any of those kicks over 40 yards. Brady puts him in position to succeed. Vandjerjet, or however you spell it missed a 45 yarder last year, that's a tougher kick than adam has had to make in the playoffs, all attributable to brady being more efficient.

Re: Brady or Manning?

What's sad is that in comparing Peyton to Brady a lot of people are missing out on the fact that we're seeing a great QB in Peyton. Too many people just see him as not as good as Brady and don't appreciate Manning's talents because of that.

MTK 11-02-2006 09:54 AM

Re: Brady or Manning?

From a pure passer standpoint and technician at the line of scrimmage, Manning is without a doubt one of the all-time greats. I love watching the guy play the game.

Unfortunately he's just not going to get the cred that Brady has until he wins a Super Bowl. Or at least start by taking the Colts deep into the playoffs. He's historically played some of his worst games when the games count the most, while Brady has played his best in those situations.

Re: Brady or Manning?

I fail to understand why this is such a contested question? Brady is the best qb in football and it's not even a question. Of course his performances under pressure are legendary, but he has also been consistently able to captain teams into overachieving. I mean, the Pats were never the best team in the league talentwise for any of the superbowls. Maybe 2003, maybe. Two AFC championship victories on the road (one with the flu) and two game winning superbowl drives. A constant carousel of change around him, yet he still wins. And then he goes out and leads the league in passing yards last year.

It's time for people to get over the fact that he wasnt a first round pick.

Thats a good point TAFKAS, but for me, what attracts me to an athlete is his ability to perform under pressure and be at his best when the situation is the heaviest (same thing that stimulates Parcells judging from that recent article). All my favorite athletes had that: Jordan, Tiger, Montana (either that or they played for a Washington team).

It's kind of the A-Rod factor, and its something that pushes me away from certain guys. There's just something kind of, I don't know, icky about watching Manning consistently fold under big game pressure, then watching him go on TV and whine and deflect blame to his offensive line, or whoever. Ewww. The fact is Manning has never won a big game at any level.

I like watching Manning throw 49 TD's and do all his crazy audibilizing as much as anyone else, but he'll never be one of my guys. If the question is then Brady or Manning - and it is - I'm taking Brady any time any day any game.
Manning isn't?

Peyton Manning (2001-2006): 60-25*

Tom Brady (2001-2006): 64-21**

*excludes final 2 games of 2005
**excludes final game of 2005

Since they both boast ridiculous winning percentages, I'd call them both "winners". Of course, it's just a game and everybody's a winner:food-smil.

You win and lose as a team.
i'm talking playoffs and superbowls here. how many does peyton have?......... ok know how many does brady have? 3 and soon to be 4 IMO.

plus he doesn't bitch about everything under the sun

who are the patriots recivers? no one comes to mind and manning has huge names as harrison and wayne and clark. brady works with what hes got and he puts up monster numbers with no names basiclly. thats why i think so much of brady over manning.

Manning shouldn't be punished for playing with Harrison and Wayne. For one thing you can't say how good they'd be without him. And you also cant say that Manning couldn't put up these numbers with other receivers.

dall-assblows 11-02-2006 09:41 PM

i'm not punishing him i'm just saying it's amazing how good brady is with no name, reject players. don't get me wrong manning is an amazing quaterback, but it's just impressive how brady plays

Re: Brady or Manning?

Come on the question should be Brunell instead of those two losers. Brunell the only one ever to complete 22 passes in a row. Brady and Manning never have or will ever do that. I know 14 of the passes were behind the line of scrimmage but there no way that Brady and Manning can wear Brunell jock strap. Brady and Manning our all hype. LOL
