Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
Marcus Washington is a huge liability in coverage. This year, he's had some difficulty tackling (as the rest of the team). He's a good pass rusher, always has been, but whatever the reason, he isn't doing any pass rushing. If you are going to take a guy with glaring weaknesses in his game and not use him to his strengths, why even have him?
Um, Marcus Washington is our cover LB, he was signed to play over the tight end because LaVar freelanced too much to be trusted to cover anyone. He's our best cover LB. He's our best defensive player, I would say Sean Taylor but the Beast hasn't had his best year thus far. We definitely need a LB, but lest we forget, Pierce struggled some initially as well when he subbed for Arrington and now look at him. Marshall will get it, he's just got to learn to take blocks on the shoulder and not directly in the chest. I give up on Holdman, I fear he may be playing for the enemy because I've yet to see him do anything at all. |

First, as others have noted, Marcus is our best cover LB. Second, Marcus has been blitzing a lot, he's just not getting to the QB. |
Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
the problems start of front returning wynn to the starting unit could help. during the eagles game, any time wynn was on the field, the defense just generally looked better. definitely better against the run. but why do we keep doing the same things? why no adjustments?

Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
Maybe let's try replacing Carter with Wynn since that's what worked so well for us previously.
|
Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
MLB and SS, two extremely important positions.....must be replaced. The D-line might take a little while to revamp. I hope we don't change anything on offense, except maybe replace one of the aging tackles.

Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
we don't have enough money or impact draft picks to address everything :/. CB, DE, maybe OL can get high level starters, but for LB and S, it'd have to be more along the lines of value signings (guys like brandon short at LB last year, etc), since LB and S are the easiest spots to get mid level replacements fairly cheap.

Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
we need to replace carter at de with wynn and move carter to lb . the defense should be wynn, salavee, griffin, daniels up front .... carter,mcintosh,washington... and springs, rogers, vincent and taylor in the back...

Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
that would yield better results than we are currently seeing, however, still wouldn't fix much

Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
I dont understand why everyone is talking about quick fix and get someone in FA. that is stupid, we are freaking 3-7. How about playing Rocky at OLB and put in Cary Campbell or McCune or someone. I said last year Marshall sucked. He is not as physical as a MLB should be. He may be decent at OLB. 3-7 and Rocky is still sitting. We give up 400 yards per game and for some reason the coaching staff thinks he isn't ready. This is a complete joke. Play the younger guys who are hungry, who want to prove they belong. McCune, Campbell, Dougherty. Do we have a young corner? Rogers sucks.
in the paper he blamed the call. saying Cover - 0 , was the call and basically gave excuses like well I am covering the faster guy in the league(Galloway) and i did what I could do. No you freaking moron, how about jamming the guy at the line, how about not playing off 20 f-ing yards and how about tackling someone. this guy sucks big donkey balls and needs to hit the road. |
Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
Rogers is the only guy on the team who's character I would question, everyone else is taking responsibility, and ISNT TALKING TRASH EVERY PLAY WHEN WE ARE 3-7 AND HE IS PERSONALLY GETTING EMBARESSED ON NATIONAL TV. I'm convinced that he gives up by the 4th quarter. He's my scape goat

Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
Marshall has proven that he can get the job done. I wouldn't cast him aside after one down year especially when you consider the entire defense has been extremely disappointing.
Even the best of LBs in this league look horrible when the front four can't keep the OL off of them, which is our problem right now. |

Which is very bad news, considering a front four is one of the hardest things to build, besides an O-line. I feel like this franchise has been avoiding it for that reason. |

I'm kinda back and forth on this one. While I think that the front 4 is garbage, I still don't think Lemar Marshall is a good MLB. I think he's too damn slow. However, there were times last season when he did come up with some big plays. He looks like he's moving in slow motion out there sometimes and there have been a lot of times when I've thought "they'd have had a sack if Marshall had ANY speed." (twice during the Giants game I believe) Anyway, I don't think he's a very good MLB. That said, I think he'd be an even worse OLB because of the issue with his speed. He's just all around not fast enough. I don't think putting back at his "natural position" is the solution. He's not that great at either and doesn't have the tools to be dominant. That said, I don't think the Skins should address this by going out and getting some under 30 year old FA that they're gonna pay 40 million. They should get a quality guy with some quickness and leave it at that. They've got Washington and they need to see if Rocky can play. After all he was taken in the 2nd round. |
Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
Put Krary Campbell at MLB and put Rocky in let the Young guys play

Exactly. A guy taken in the second round should become a solid NFL starter. Physically, he must have the tools so it is just mental question. Hopefully, now that the skins have taken the plunge with Campbell they might start introducing Rocky. Introducing a LB is far easier than a new starting QB. I'm amazed that we haven't seen him on some plays a least. |
Re: Add Middle Linebacker to the shopping list.
You can't blame a single player. Our front 4 plays like shit which translates to the LBs playing like shit, which in turn results in the DB playing like shit. This team has packed it in.
I agree. I was thinking last night about our acquisition of Kenny Wright. He made plays last year for the Jags and hasn't done much of anything for us. The only reason I could come up with was that the Jags front 4 put the secondary and LBs in positions to make plays because they produce such a strong push. It's been so long since we've had a solid D-line. I hope we can fix it during the off season. |

its basically hurting Rockys development. no way are we playing for anything now. put the kid in, get him some experience and see if he can make some plays. No way are we keeping Holdman next year, so who cares. I think this coaching staff is far to forgiving for the veterans. They all want these guys on the field. its just not that kind of NFL anymore. it may have been a thinking mans game, and to some extent it still is. But players now are so fast, and athletic that you need to have them on the field. Especially a 2nd round pick that you HAD TO HAVE! LB especially. I think our season is so far down the toilet, that if rocky misses a couple of tackles or out of position for a play or two its not going to break our season. Plus, with his speed and ability he may make some plays, cause a turnover, hey and maybe make some tackles that Holdman just can't seem to make. Holdman has gotten off rather easy if you ask me. Arch was getting toasted a lot and got benched. Holdman is out of position and getting mushed all the time, missing tackles and still on the damn field. What ever happened to James Posey. I thought they were suppose to rotate him in and out from time to time. he would be better than holdman, all though he is an old guy. |
