Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
You just answered your own question "#3 receiver". What would give you any faith in our front office?
But was he #3 by virtue of his inabilities as a wide receiver, or by the fact that he wasn't as experienced as Ward or Burress? I guess we're learning the answer to that now. Talk about an expensive lesson. My expectations of him, and the front office were obviously way too high. |
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
don't forget that he's part of the punchline too
He definitely shares the blame but he can leave this fairly unscathed. If he wants to be a head coach next year, he will have no problem. |
I wonder if Williams has some feeling of being an outsider now that Saunders is here as the other Associate-Head Coach. I mean Gibbs and Saunders have a bit of a history together having coached at the same time in college, and both being disciples of Coryell. And you ever notice how Gibbs always talks about smart Saunders is and how he's got such a great work ethic and he's putting in the hours to get the ship righted? I can't remember the last time he really spoke about GW in any such way.
I don't get that vibe at all. I think Saunders will leave the Redskins after this year. I think Gibbs hates his guts. They really didn't know each other before now at all. Williams is still the heir aparrent. |

Maybe... but he's definitely not the hot property he was last year at this time. His stock has taken a hit. |

Who the hell asked you?? Kidding, just kidding Seriously though, one thing about Gibbs that I've always found curious is his inability to groom future coaches. I mean you see guys who played under him like Tice, Whisenhunt, and Grimm coaching and clearly being influenced by what they learned under him. But no one is thinking someone like Earnest Byner or Stan Hixon is a future head coaching prospect. Also, I can't recall but during Gibbs' first tenure did he ever let go of a coach on his staff? I mean I know some left for other head coaching jobs like Joe Bugel. But I can't recall him ever just flat out sending a coach packing. |

So, Williams doesn't like the fact that he's not a part of the 'coaching club' of Gibbs and Saunders? And now he's not going to coach his very best because of it? Let's look at it this way - he squeezed more than anyone could have expected out of a no-name defense in '04, had success in '05, but the cracks were starting to show, and besides a boneheaded move to bring in Andre Carter this year, really nothing was done to improve the D-line, and guys like Griffin and Salave'a are officially worn out. So, do you really think Gregg Williams has forgot how to coach, or decided he's going to suck at his job? |

Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
He was mad he didnt have an excuse to put Mark brunell back in.
Ah, I love starting a fire!
And you know how I love to put those fire's out with gasoline. All this nonesense about Saunders not getting the job done as if we were able to get the job done when Gibbs was calling the play's, the only difference with Gibbs calling the play's was he would run 3 times into a stacked line for about 3 yards late in the game and punt, then hope the defense bails him out. Well the defense isn't bailing anyone out this year which is putting a huge focus on the inability of the offense which has existed since Gibbs return. Funny I don't here a peep about Bugel? The more I watch, the more I feel the game has long passed him by, teams blitz and succeed at will, how many times are we going to see a team bring up thier safeties to the line of scrimmage [over the center and guards no less] and not be blocked? Either this line needs to be completly overhauled, or Bugel can't handle these Blitzing defenses, remember these defenses today are hybrids of the Buddy Ryan 46, which bugel never had much succees against, seems to me our line could very well be improperly coached and illprepaired, Either way Gibbs should have identified the problem long ago and started the process of fixing it. I know we are being knocked for not running much today, but it didn't look like to me we were going to make many first down's running, there wasen't a lot of room out there, and rightly so, any good coordinator is going to make a rookie QB [especially in his first start] beat them. Yea Gibbs was mad, he should have been that mad 2 seasons ago, some how when we lose with Brunell it's much more palitable for him than with someone else. Brunell is out, and no one fought thier gut's out? IRONIC! As far as personel moves being someone else's fault? Nonesense! Gibbs has final say, perhaps he should stop listening to the great Clinton Portis when it comes to personel and football related matters. Let's hear it for Sean Taylor, and Chris Cooley, why you ask? Because in 3 year's that's the only legitamate talent we have produced in the draft. Nice job GM JOE. |

Who's fault is that? Who was responsible for bringing in his players? Lets just pretend for a minute it was the players faults... are you telling me in ONE season all of these guys forgot how to tackle???? Or did some of the Fundamental stuff get overlooked this year??? I don't know whats going on any more than you do, but I don't speculate that its the players and not GW. Seems like the implication was there, since the theme of this thread has to do with calling Gregg Williams out. What's wrong with Griffin and Salave'a? I suppose it doesn't matter; we can see how much of a priority the front office put on upgrading the line. Springs is back now, and is getting beaten. He didn't forget how to play over those several weeks, I hope. Sean Taylor is regressing too. And Pierson Priouleau? I guess you could say his absence has hurt, since anything would be an upgrade over these dopes. |

I guess Monte Kiffin has lost his touch too. His unit has dropped from #1 to #24. These things happen, I'll only get worried if Williams can't field a good defense next year.

Either way, the part Williams plays looks to be nothing more than stating a need, and someone tells him about a player that they'll select -- and Williams says, "Okay, sounds good." But if I'm wrong, and his input is much more than that, then why is it structured that way? Why is Williams responsible for scouting? The people above him need to step in and hire someone who can make smart personnel decisions, and get Williams, and Joe Gibbs back to doing what they do best, coach their players. Like I said -- it's f'ed up from top to bottom. |

I just remember last year Gibbs talking about he, Vinny and Gregg sat down to talk about some personnel moves on offense. It might have been the Moss trade, I really don't remember. I found it curious that Williams would sit in on that meeting but I sort of figured it was part of the "heir apparent" training process. |

If we were the 24th defense, we'd be .500.
Regarding Williams, I think he's too worried about getting back to the defense he had the last two seasons than to actually change something to reestablish respectability. Too much of a perfectionist, not realizing that we'd be winning games if his unit was average. With the money being paid, and his rep, I would hope that if he had a bunch of camp scrubs, he would have his defense in the top 25. This performance is unexceptable. I'm not suggesting we fire the guy. Just suggesting that he's a significant part of the problem this season. And if it is his perfectionism that is forcing his hand, that's a bit ironic because I believe it was his perfectionism that almost single handedly beat the Bucs last year. Who else remembers that he sat Shawn Springs because he thought his gameplan was too good to be beaten. Give him credit for that, he was right. And now, that same attitude is killing us. |

I voiced this opinion earlier that we need to steal a page fromt he Tuna's playbook and rebuild our defensive front seven. Golston looks like he might be a good player, and a good find in the sixth round. We need to rebuild our D-line, our first round pick needs to be either a DT or DE. We need to develop a decent front seven, and then by magic our secondary will look better. Quarterbacks have a knack for throwing interceptions and fumbling when they get sacked or there is a heavy pass rush. The most damning statistic in my mind is that opposing QBs have had a 104.7 QB rating against the Redskins this season, that metric speaks volumes, it says we have no pass rush. Since we have made the switch to Campbell I think it is time to see what Rocky can do on the D. We have to evaluate our young talent and figure out who is going to be on this team. |
The people above him need to step in and hire someone who can make smart personnel decisions, and get Williams, and Joe Gibbs back to doing what they do best, coach their players.
Right. The biggest problem with the defense and offense and the team is player personnel decisions. GW has a large say in decisions. He was the one courting Adam Archuleta. The thing is: Everyone has known that this has been the problem in one form or another ever since Dan Snyder bought the team: No accountability in the Front Office, No GM. This is no way to run a franchise. The personnel moves have destroyed the continuity on this team over and over again. I hope that Gibbs is finally waking up to this fact. He is the only one who can force Snyder to accept a legitimate outsider GM for next year. |
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
The players aren't the same without Gibbs running the show - period. He needs to take back the O.
|
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
So go from an offense that has been #1 in the league for years upon years back to an offense that required Clinton Portis to carry the entire load which also netted the lowest playoff offensive totals in NFL history. No thanks. Give Saunders time to get his scheme in. Gibbs had two years and our offense was consistantly shit. Let's try giving someone else with a proven system not designed in the 80s to have two years.
|
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
he was pissed no doubt. I think he either had words or will have words with coaches - not players. Doc Walker said that Joe has never, and will never call out players in the media, so his opnion was that anger was directed to Al and GW.
If you read between the lines his "principles" rant was pretty telling. I think he preaches, preaches about a certain of type philospy and the product every sunday is differnet and he is now pissed. I loved it. If you didn't see the change in his tone and demeanor you don't watch JG close enough. |
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
I completely agree, Daseal. Saunders system is taking time to put into place, and sticking with Brunnell (and that, I take it, was Gibbs call) didn't help. One big problem has been the o-line's trouble in adapting to the new system. Saunders has a blocking system--it's Buges job to put it into place. This is not the Gibbs/Buges system of the eighties. Gibbs was calling out his o-line and backs, IMO, with his comments about not rushing. Saunders called running plays; the players did not execute.
But he did, for the first time, direct criticism at the D. I think the players are underperforming, but that was a way of crticizing Williams. And Williams clearly has large input on specific player moves--AA is his guy, and my guess is the reast are too. One bifg thing Gibbs said--and I completely agree--is that the D DID NOT GET THE BALL ENOUGH FOR THE OFFENSE. They didn't have enough plays. Long drive after long drive. If Campbell gets 10 or so more plays, we win, IMO. If you can't get on the field, you can't get a rhythm, and that's what Saunders offense thrives on. Of course, then they have to be able to run the ball--so the o-line has to get its head out of its ass and block, and Betts needs to hit the hole and hold on to the ball, or sit down. (I say start Duckett now, but we'll see...). Gibbs was pissed. That was the equivalent of yelling by Gibbs. Behind closed doors, I do not doubt the fire will be lit. It may be too little too late, but it's time to play with fire, or get off the field. |
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
Guys better start playing like their jobs depend on it because these last 6 games are definitely a tryout for next year. The lack of passion by the D is what's most disappointing.
|
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
:( ..... At least we get to watch JC throw bombs for the next 6weeks.. (I hope)... I want him to throw to Santana!!! I can't wait to see that!

Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
I said this in another thread, and it bears repeating here:
Gibbs needs to parlay that anger by getting medieval with this coddled bunch - full contact practice in full pads. Twice a day if necessary. He has taken the bullet for this overpaid bunch week after week, and they've done nothing to reward that loyalty. It's time for Gibbs to put away the carrot and break out the stick. |
Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
It is funny how some of you guys can't get passed this thing with Joe Gibbs and Mark Brunell, but you can completely ignore the fact that the real reasons why we're losing games are the defense and the inconsistent playcalling from Al Saunders. I'll admit, I was very excited to see Al Saunders coming here, but this team wins with Joe Gibbs football, and they're not playing Joe Gibbs football.
A side note...I think Jason Campbell played more than well enough to have won us a ball game, but he has completely NO HELP from anybody else with the exception of Loyd, ARE, and Cooley.
sauners, playcalling, and defense have been blamed for weeks upon weeks. too badd lloyd couldn't have helped by catching the long bomb. |

Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
Whatever it is, it has to be internal. This team was so pumped for the season to begin. As soon as Portis got hurt and we signed Duckett it was down hill from there (emotionally). Wish I could have been in the locker room and heard the guys talking......

Re: Gibbs looks angry during press conference
I can't blame saunders for this game at all, we moved the ball on offense, he dealt well with the cover 2. We only got like 3 possessions in the 2nd half, pathetic.
