Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Don't give up hope until it is impossible but it is funny to see how sentiment changes after one win! This time last week there were threads about us getting a top 5 draft pick and now we are going to the playoffs!! I'd just like to see the team play with the commitment and spirit they showed today, see the D play like they did today and see Campbell continue to improve. If those things happen then the wins will take care of themselves.
I suppose that one thing in our favour is that there don't appear to be many consistently strong teams in the NFC so who knows? |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
still doubt it. our offense has had more bad weeks than good ones, and our defense has played well in exactly ONE game so far this season.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I second that, this even if we win out, we played like total shit this year. We don't deserve the honor of playing in the playoffs.
Just like John Madden said last night, it's the teams that get it together from Thanksgiving on who can do the most damage in the playoffs. It is a slim chance that we make the playoffs, but if we can get it together and string five NFC wins in a row, it may be enough to get us there. Once you get there it's a whole new season. We're not in a much different position than last year because of the records of the other NFC teams ahead of us. Our 4-7 this year is pretty comparable to our 5-6 last year. I'm not going to hold my breath yet, but if we win the next two home games...look out. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Playoffs or not, I just want us to finish the season strong and build on that for 2007. Last year we finished strong but weren't able to carry that over into this year. Don't want that happening again
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
It's almost Gibbs-time anyway. December.
I doubt there's any way the Cowboys drop 3 games for us to win the division even if we DO win out. It's all about the wild card. And even THAT'S crazy talk. |

The playoffs are a pipe dream at this point, I'm with you I just want to see them finish strong and play with the same effort we saw yesterday. For one game it felt like we were watching the defense of the past 2 years. Guys flying to the ball, guys playing with some heart and fire... man I really missed that! |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
It was nice to watch the defense and not worry about them getting shit on with every play. I heard on the radio on the way home that they were lining Holdman up behind Daniels and Washington behind Carter for some plays. Was this true? Because it looks like THAT might have helped the run defense.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Just for fun here are the teams we need to pull for next week (Week 13). The team in paranthesis is who they are playing against which is in our way for a wildcard. Don't get mad when you see two particular teams that I suggest. And remember, just...for...fun!
Dallas (Giants) Eagles (Panthers, I'm assuming the Eagles will lose tonight) Bears (Vikings) Jets (Packers) Washington Redskins (of course) Saints (49er's) Arizona (Rams) This would put us surprisingly close to a wild card spot (one game behind). It's actually not too unrealistic. Maybe the Arizona/Rams game. In Week 14 here are the teams we need to pull for: Panthers (Giants) Washington Redskins (of course) Lions (Vikings) Packers (49er's; assuming Green Bay loses tomorrow) Tampa Bay (Falcons) Bears (Rams)
I just posted this in the "Giants lose" thread: "Can someone start a thread about the playoff implications of NYG v.Dallas this weekend? Who should we root for? Dallas is 1-3 in the division like us, NYG are 3-0 I think. If G-men win, they hold a crucial tiebreaker both in head to head w/dallas & in division record. We could then surpass Dallas' div. record if we beat philly & nyg. My heart is w/the G-men because I hate them less, but it may make sense for us to hope that the G-men continue their freefall & lose a wild card spot to us (Wishful thinking that we'll run the table of course)." So you've answered the question, but you're assuming Dallas will win the division. That looks like the way it should pan out. The G-men could still win it & we could have the tiebreaker over Dallas for a wildcard as well. That would mean they would have to go 2-3 to finish, unlikely at this point. They have: at NYG NO at ATl Philly Detroit |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Making the playoffs, is not realistic. Finishing strong, is within reach. It took Gibbs too long to realize the team was going nowhere with Mark Brunell. I really would have liked to have seen how Jason Campbell would have performed with a healthy Portis and Moss. Next year.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I just want Tomy Romo to start looking like shit so people can take their mouths off his shaft.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Win six games (Five now). Then, and only then, see how the cards played out.
Finish strong. See who wants to play and come back next year (that includes coaches!). Yesterday was a good solid game - had they played that way all year we would have 3 more wins right now (Minnesota, Tennesse and T-Bay). Of course, we would also still have Brunnell as our QB - tough to say which is the bigger benefit at this point. |
I just want Tomy Romo to start looking like shit so people can take their mouths off his shaft.
Seriously. I know he's playing well but the media really needs to back up off his jock. Let's hope the Giants can complicate things next week. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I mean he's the top rated passer in the NFL, and even Peyton Manning doesn't get blown that hard.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
8-8 would be a dream ending at this point. And yes, Romo is lucky to have a very good defense that gives him multiple chances to score, with the turnovers created.
And he is good, but come on, the next Troy Aikman? Atleast wait a season or two before you crown his ass. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I think defenses are going to play him a little differently now that they have 3 games of film to study. Like my dad said, he could have been a diamond in the rough but Parcells must have known something about his ability so as to keep him on the bench for so long.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Priorities of what we should be focused on:
-Next week's game -Continuation of Campbell's development -Consistency on defense -Moss getting healthy -Playoffs That being said, peeking at our schedule @ New Orleans in 3 weeks is the only game on our schedule we shouldn't be favored in. GO SKINS! :cheeky-sm |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Just saying we are at 1000-1 odds on winning the super bowl. Eh- eh, looks like a deal to me. I might just drop 5 bucks on it.
500-1 on the NFC championship. Might be the biggest wast of 5 dollars ever but that is OK. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Whatever. Drop 10 on it and then enjoy yourself a nice PS3 for Christmas.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Whoaaaaaaaaa!!! Let's win a couple in a row before we even start thinking about it. The D's got to keep it up and the offense needs more points. Good win though.

Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
What a game on Sunday. I wrote us off, and wouldn't even consider looking at the play-off scenario.
If our defense plays like it did on Sunday, I'll atleast glance at the rest of the NFL results now... ---------------------------- Also, I think we can confirm that our injuries in the secondary sealed the fate of our defense for the first half of our season. It probably wasn't the lack of GW's schemes and what not. It may be pre-mature, but when you shut down arguably the best WR in the NFL, it says something about your secondary. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Look at all the teams that are reeling right now in the nfc but sill alive :
vikes, rams, panthers, giants, falcons, seahawks & saints to some degree too. Even the bears got whipped yesterday, lucky to have made it that close. Other than the bears, nobody has a clear lock on their division. If the cowpokes win sunday they will have a big 2 game edge, but if the g-men win its still up for grabs. even the iggles are still in it, but I don't think they can put together that many wins. WE win, anything can happen. |

Reading that GW article and thinking about what they said about getting "cute" with stunts, it made me think: Did GW just let them go? We were getting a consistent pass rush all day long. Carter is giving me hope on him once again. He was in Delhomme's face as well as Griffin and Golston. |

I agree, the increased effort all around caused hell for delhomme and co. The increased pass pass coverage made him hold on for that extra half second, thus helping our d-rush as well. The increased pressure, cause in-accurate throws... etc... Shed's light on the whole "play as a team" concept that's been so foreign to the defense. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I'm so excited that we won and the Giants lost AND the Eagles lost. Last night I went over it in my head. If we win the next two (including beating the Eagles), and the Giants lose to Dallas next week AND the following week, and the Eagles lose next week.... WE ARE IN SECOND PLACE!! :)
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
Oh, and we have to beat Philly AND the GIANTS and win the rest of our games and they have to lose theirs..... :) It's possible! HAIL!

we've needed that for what, 14 years now...hopefully it lasts for more then one game. Either way I still want a stud DE in the draft this year. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
As do I. I also want (if that was the case) for GW to just let his guys rush and forget about stunts. It seems it works better when they just let the guys bull rush people.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
In my opinion, jobs are on the line. Either they play like they mean it and the coaches get over themselves or they are out. Glad they stepped up!
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
You know who I feel is earning a roster spot for next year even though he was the whipping boy earlier? Kenny Wright.
When playing in the nickel position like he was MEANT to be, he has played exceedingly well. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I agree about Wright. I like him.
Sean Taylor is a god, god, god!!!! I love watching the Skins play just so I can see who he hits next. Simply unbelievable. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
May be pointless, ignorant, etc...
But could 8-8 get us in this year? Look at the match-ups... It almost seems like the NFC is THAT bad. Not losing any sleep over it, but hell, if theres going to be a year to make a comeback, the NFC is certainly not our foe at this point. Who knows. Regardless, this team is an extremely different one then several weeks ago, and anything could happen. I can't help but ge this little, itty bitty, atomic sized hope way in the back of my head. Win 2 more, and that hope may be in everyones face. -I'll shut up for now. :) |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
still doubt it. our offense has had more bad weeks than good ones, and our defense has played well in exactly ONE game so far this season.
Looking more at our remaining schedule and our statistical projection for the team in the 2nd half (which basically says that we've simply underachieved this year, and should be expected to slowly climb back towards our previously lofty mean espicially on defense over the next few weeks), I think it's more than probable that we beat a struggling Atlanta and a banged up Philadelphia team at home these next 2 weeks.
If we do what we should do, that puts us at 6-7 and having to play 2 difficult road games. So yeah, a playoff run is still unlikely. But all I'm saying is that 2 weeks from now, it's very possible that we could be playing better football than either the Rams or Saints. I DON'T think we can do it without Clinton Portis, Jason Campbell still very much learning on the job, and next to no kicking game whatsoever. But unless you believe that the playoff teams will be NYG, DAL, CAR, NO, CHI and SEA (3 of those teams are struggling), if you start looking for darkhorses to get to the magic 9 win number, it's like Atlanta, Minnesota, and Washington. So yeah, season is un-over now. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
The problem with Atlanta is that they've lost 4 in a row.. and they will be VERY hungry to win next week. They will not give up.
|
The problem with Atlanta is that they've lost 4 in a row.. and they will be VERY hungry to win next week. The colder the better because even though they have the number 1 running attack in the NFL, Vick is noticibly more timid in cold weather. Runs less, throws quicker, etc.
We can't let up on D, but I forsee another dominating defensive performance. I think Phili will be the tougher game of the two. Unless AJ Feely gets the start. That will just be funny. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
if portis was healthy, i'd be more optimistic. he can make yards out of nothing. sellers can sorta do that, but our ground game is going to require amazing OL support to be any good.
|
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
I do think 9-7 gets the final wild card....
but I need to see alot more than just one win before I say we have any chance of getting back into things. However, I think Carolina (minus probably New Orleans) is the best team on our schedule... If we get out of the homestand with 2 more wins...then I'll consider it, but one good game isnt changing my opinion. |
Re: 9-7 To The Playoffs?
If we win the rest of our games we would need....
Atlanta to lose once to us which we have to win for this scnario to work so this is all we need form them St. Louis to lose 2 (Arizona depends if they show up to play, Chicago, Oakland, Washington again we need ot win to progress, then minesota) San Fran lose 2(NO should lose, Green bay should be fun, Seatle never know, Arizona?, Denver should win i see atleast 2 losses here Philly Lose 2 (carolina, US (this needs to be win for this to work at all), Giants should be able to beat them, Dallas will beat them, Atlanta) Min Lose 2 (chicago, lions, jets, green bay, St. L, a lot of AFC they will lose 2) Carolina Lose 2 (carolina has philly next week win win scnario, then Giants, pitty, atlanta,NO, Possible for them to lose 2) Giants to lose 2 ( US theres one, Dallas thers another, Carolina w eknow how good giants D is doing, NO?, ) Point is we have to win the rest of our games ot have a chance but the chance isnt as far off as it seems as long as we do win the rest of our games, we hold a lot of our own fate in our hands and one of these teams can outrank us becuase there are 2 wildcard spots open. NO is the team i worry about the most but our team is hungry and hopefully feeling desperate. |
