Can't be any worse than Novak.....but he hasn't been much better...so take the lesser of the two evils.

Vanderjagt > Novak

End of discussion. Sign him!

hey, he helped win us a game. in my mind he already is a redskin. but.........not when he was a cowboy, oh you get the point

sign him no questions asked

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

I'd sign him to a one year deal. I think being indoors is what helped him in Indy, that and he's a choke artist. Either way he's still better than Novak.

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

I said no, because we don't have much to play for. If we were serious contenders, then I would say yes -- because the position is definitely a weakness. However, I'd rather look at the free agents this offseason -- or at least wait until there is more competition to lower his asking price.

choke artist! HA! thats a term i usually reserved for such worthless fuckers as Drew Bledsoe and Kobe Bryant hahahahaa......Vanderjagt is a douche but....agreed, anything is better than Nick Novak.....

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

He is 10000% percent better than any kicker we've had since Chip Lolhmiller. Seriously, I highly dislike the guy....

But lets call a spade a spade, Novack has made arguably the biggest two kicks of hte last 2 years for the Skins'.....but he sucks.

This is the only "outcast" that I wont bat an eye at if the skins sign.

GTripp0012 11-28-2006 02:28 AM

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

Yeah, at some point the guy is going to regain his composure, and Novak sucks. The kicking game is a huge issue and this is a possible long term solution.

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

Does Parcell always refer to his players as "That guy?" Wouldn't it be awesome if Gramatic misses a game winning, preferably in the playoffs, field goal? I can't wait for the fallout.

BDBohnzie 11-28-2006 09:18 AM

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

It definitely does not hurt to bring Vanderjagt in for a try out this week and see how he does. Novak, as much as it hurts to say, just can't cut the mustard. And while Vanderjagt did play a lot of indoor games, he was still decent outdoors.

#56fanatic 11-28-2006 09:26 AM

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

the guy is the most accurate kicker in history. We can get him on the cheap, and give him a shot. Even though he has missed some kicks, I think he is a big upgrade from Novak. Plus a change in scenary may do him some good. I think Parcells ruined what ever confidence he had in Dallas. No pressure if he comes here, we are 4-7.

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

They should sign the bastard. I kept trying to wait to see how long it would take for ESPN to come in saying that Washington had signed him. I honestly didn't think that we'd be at 9:44 am without him as a Redskins kicker. I guess 2:45 pm is a good time to announce his coming on board.

Yes, sign him. Just don't pay him millions..

Yeah I'd be pretty pissed if they signed him to one of those "richest ever" deals !

How is Kobe a choke artist, he is one of the most clutch NBA players right now(besides the great Horry of course). Seriously Kobe has three rings, and is the best player in the NBA IMO.

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

Parcells has a bad recent history w/kickers. Remember last year when they cut Cortez only to bring him back, or was that Cundiff? Regardless he doesn't show them much respect & I think he wanted to cut V'jac back in preseason. He got into his head & probably worsened the slump.
I voted no in the poll, cause he might be bringing too much baggage, but I would have to say he's better than Novak. Poor Nick, if you could only make some kicks & stick around a few years!

No doubt, Kobe is a baller. He has really matured from back in the day when Shaq was around.

Cortez was shit, I would have tossed him to the wolves too. But yeah, Parcell has no interpersonal skills.

While we are on the subject of kickers what happened to Hall? All I herd is that he had fetigue in his leg then he's out on injury reserve. I know he will be gone after the year but I just never heard what really happend.

Regarding Vanderjagt..

"It is a gift.
A gift to the foes of Dallas! Why not use this kicker?

Long has Joe Gibbs, the Steward of the 'Skins, kept the forces of Dallas at bay. By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe. Give the 'Skins the weapon of the Enemy. Let us use it against him!"

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

Check out Tony Mcgee's assessment of V. He states he is basically an indoor turf kicker and not as effective on grass. Interesting slant. In his opinion, a small upgrade

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

What I don't understand is how your kicking technique is affected inside versus outside. It seems to me that Novak's technique is lacking. Even though the elements might affect his Vanderjagt's kicking, you'd think if anything he is fundamentally sound enough to be at least 75%+ outdoors.

It's not the technique as much as it's the surface and the lack of weather that makes him a better indoors kicker.

Even at 75% he's an upgrade over Novak who is trying to be our new 50/50.

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

For some reason my gut says stick with Nick. I think he, like the team, will get hot soon. Vanderjagt is a virus who sucks outdoors. And Dallas replaced him with Gramatica? That indicates to me that Vanderjagt has real issues, because Gramatica hasn't kicked well in years.

Hog1 11-28-2006 02:41 PM

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

We need a fix RIGHT NOW, but I would like to hang on to Nick as well. He's cheap and may come around. A good Maryland boy, and if we can live with roster/practice squad spot.........keep him. Maybe, he can be a Theisman, and return kicks??????????? maybe not

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

You know what... I know that novak has struggled, but I like the kid. Not to mention the money factor. Vanderjadt will still command money.

Id much rather watch novak miss than vanderjadt miss. He's a whiney little turd and he doesn't SOLVE the problem of having an inconsistant kicker.

MTK 11-28-2006 02:51 PM

Re: Cowboys Release Vanderjagt

Maybe it's because he's a hometown kid, but I really don't understand people rationalizing keeping a kicker who's hitting on 50%.
he couldn't be any worse than novak, and is probably better than him on kickoffs (i cant really remember), which we desperately need help on. our opponents are starting at the 35 constantly it seems
Yep.... Opponents starting at the 35. Just like last year and what does Gibbs do......bring back Hall.

I'm sentimental. Perhaps he he will improve. You will notice, I did not advocate not making a positive change, if possible. only hanging onto him as well

It has alot to do with his attitude. I know he's 50% and am NOT arguing against replacing him with a quality kicker... but Vjadt just lost his job due to performance. Bringing him in does not solve our problem and creates a possible chemistry issue. I can bet it would be MUCH more frustrating to lose a game on a missed kick when you have a primadonna kicker that will publicly blast your team, than some wide-eyed hometown kid who is trying his ass off for his home team.
