Re: Oh Brother Gibbs Right Choice But Maybe Too Late ,thanks Old Man!
No. Gibbs made it pretty clear that Brunnell was the guy. I am not sure where I read it, but the consensus seemed to be that the team thought it was ready for a SB run. As such, Gibbs was going to go with his experienced QB to get them there and, remember, Brunnell was the QB when they made their playoff run last year. I am sure Gibbs thought Brunnell was the one to turn around the offensive woes again this year and only went to Campbell after becoming convinced Brunnell wasn't getting it done (two years ago, we went through the same thing before he put in Ramsey).
In fairness to Gibbs the whole offense stunk Brunell's first year and Brunell was playing hurt. As for this season, no coach in the NFL would have went with Campbell to start the year in a new offense having never played. Brunell had a very good year last year. It's no coincidence that the offense went in the tank at the end of the season after his knee got hurt in the Giants game. While I thought Gibbs should have switched sooner, the timing seems to be good to me. the team as a whole is coming around. I would have hated to see Campbell loose his first several games and damage his confidence. This season is important, but the next ten are more important. |
Re: Oh Brother Gibbs Right Choice But Maybe Too Late ,thanks Old Man!
There was no way Campbell would have been ready to play week 1. Brunell grumbled about having to learn a pretty extensive new offense, I can't imagine tossing all that on a 2nd year guy and expecting him to carry the load right off the bat.

This is ironic on so many levels. Never mind that many others have said pretty much exactly what jason 72 did. What's ironic is you thanking someone for not saying all sorts of dumb sh*t and calmly stating your view when you've done stuff like namecall Gibbs (and even members here) and wish that he collapses becauses of his diabetes (or whatever it was he said). I'm thinking we should change your username to 3 IQ SOLDIER....who's with me? It's all love :) |

Re: Oh Brother Gibbs Right Choice But Maybe Too Late ,thanks Old Man!
All this negative is simply the result of loosing. If our team was winning, and playing up to our expectations going into the season, none of this stuff would even be said. It's been a constant negative from the beginning, and just about everyone on and off the field has been critized at some point in time. It's about time to give up on the negative.
The Giants this past week, what's going on with them is simply the result of not winning games. Loosing breeds frustration, Gibbs has said it over and over, when you don't win, people are going to say all types of things. |

Re: "Oh Brother "!Gibbs Right Choice But Maybe Too Late ,thanks Old Man!
Joe Gibbs probably made his quarterback switch decision a few weeks too late to have an impact on this lost Washington season, but at least he did it.
What was always strange about the coach’s reluctance to switch to Jason Campbell was that the young quarterback was Joe’s pick in the draft two years ago. It was Gibbs’ decision to use two extra draft picks and his own first-round pick on Campbell. Campbell was beaten down by the implications that he wasn’t ready to handle the complicated offense of Al Saunders. When a club starts saying that Campbell has had four different offensive coordinators in the last four seasons, well the tag is that he’s not smart enough to handle the playbook. And how backward is that thinking? You mean you keep playing Mark Brunell because he knows a 500-page playbook better than Campbell? Now, that really is dumb. Isn’t it supposed to be about production, wins and losses and which player gives your team the best chance to win? When I first met Campbell at the scouting combine, I told him how much Terry Bradshaw loved his arm. He was so thankful that someone recognized his ability. The only way Campbell and Redskins will ever know whether he can compete in the NFL is by playing. Finally, Gibbs basically has gotten a free pass in Washington because of his past Hall of Fame accomplishments and those three Super Bowls. Everyone has been blamed but him OH YEAH THIS IS A ARTICLE TAKEN FROM FOX SPORTS!!! I didn't make it up
DUDE SHUT THE HELL UP! IM SO TIRED OF ALL OF THESE NEGATIVE THREADS! |
Yea um lets see did it ever occur to you that campbell didnt understand the playbook and therefor would not be able to understand the plays.
Also hes not the reason we beat Carolina no matter what we say, our defense showed up and Chris Cooley managed to make a great play. In my opinion Brunell could have done the same if not better, but hey thats him growing. PS Insulting our coach, our savior is not a way to make friends, stop being a rat escaping a sinking ship
No one loves Gibbs more than I do. But let's face the facts. He has not done a good job in his three years here. Giving up picks for Brunell was a bad move. In 04 he did a bad job calling plays and handling the offese. He was better in 0-5. But signing off on both LLoyd and Randle El was a bad move. No need for both when we had so many other pressing needs. Bad move giving up a draft pick for Duckett. I could go on and on. He is the team president which means he the buck stops with him. If it were not for the defense last year then it would have really been ugly. The whole QB situation this year was just a frickin joke. He should have thanked Brunell for last year and went with JC right after 05 was over. Bottom line is we all know Gibbs is loyal to a fault. See Bobby Beatherd. |

As an on field coach, I feel Gibbs has yet to make a wrong decision on the field. Of course, he's mortal, and time will tell what ultimately went right and what went wrong, but I don't think its right to go around second guessing the guy when you really don't know what decisions, if ANY, he's been on the wrong side of. We have NO reason to believe that Gibbs doesn't know exactly what he's doing with his on field decisions. Obviously, as far as personel goes, he has no successful legacy to speak of so I believe its a bit more reasonable to critize moves that appear questionable. Giving away draft picks is an obvious mistake that he's made, but in multiple situations (Portis, Cooley, J. Campbell), it has paid off for us. Regarding this free agent class, lets watch them down the stretch. It's hard to notice personal improvement when a team is struggling, so as the team improves these next few weeks, try to see if Carter/Archuleta and co. are doing their jobs. Arch, IMO, has done a great job on special teams, and if he's willing to work his way back into favor, I believe he deserves the chance. |

I really doubt it. From what we've been reading lately, it seems like the coaching staff has given up on him. But I could be totally wrong. |

Grow a set! It's pointless to insult fellow members of Warpath in the manner in which you're doing. It's easy to sit behind a screen and play "font-fu" in cyber world but, do you honestly think your opinion matters in the real world? As far as your negative comments towards the moderator's of this site..... How much of your free time have you contributed (to this site) in order to keep it readily available? Since you're living in a fantasy land, I'll assume you think a magic wand was waved and alas, ...... it was created! Don't insult them for giving countless hours of their own free time, in order to give those of YOU something to complain about! |
Re: Oh Brother Gibbs Right Choice But Maybe Too Late ,thanks Old Man!
I'd watch it 3 ID, TAFKAS has moderator power. Even if he doesn't ban you, he can do mean and nasty things. You don't want to become his nemesis. Trust me. I know. (BTW - didja notice the paragraph with multiple periods and capitalization? Pretty cool, huh? You should try it some time).

Re: Oh Brother Gibbs Right Choice But Maybe Too Late ,thanks Old Man!
With the way Campbell has performed and run the offense, it tells me that the QB change was made too late. With Campbell, I truly believe we would have won at least one more game than with brunell, which would have put us in the playoff race. He has seemed to open up the run game with his downfield threat and pocket mobility. The yards will come, but he seems to see the field better than brunell.....maybe cause he can see over his offensive linemen, and he has also displayed the ability to take big hits and not let it affect him, so much more poise than brunell, your QB is your leader, and it shouldnt be some old man avoiding injuries and risks.

The problem is that we get told to lock thread #1 by X, Y, and Z over the objections of A, B, and C. Then A, B, and C say we should lock thread #2 over the objections of X, Y, and Z. We really try to consider everyone's point of view. However, when you have 3,000 members, it's hard to satisfy everyone all the time. You can satisfy all of the people some of the time, and some people all of the time, but you cannot satisfy all of the people all of the time. |
