It's hard to win when you spot a team 14 easy points off turnovers.
Not when you have 1st goal from the 3 and your down by 5. That would have won the game. |

Or you could say it wouldn't have come down to that if you take away the 14 gimme points. |
Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
Gibbs probably made the decision to kick the field goal at the end.......knowing that the defense would "fight its guts out" for force an eagles three and out. Right decision, however, wrong defense. How can we not stop JEFF GARCIA when it counts!!!!!!!!!!!

So, not getting into the end zone with a 1st in goal on the 3 is OK? It's justified because of the the 2 picks? Keep drinking that Gibbs Coolaide. |

Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
If this team stinks up pre-season again and goes 50%or under on wins next year will Gibbs still have a "pass" to coach the 5th season of his contract?
Looking at the Skins coaching moves last year, is the plan of Gibbs leaving this team after year 5 still make sense? Based on those coaching moves would Gibbs have to be a GM to make this year coaching moves stable for the Skins in the year after Gibbs retires? Lot of talk about the stability Gibbs brings, but is there stability once he leaves or moves out of the heading coaching job? Riggins on XXX radio (Dan Snyders station) asked these same questions to his in studio staff Friday Dec. 8th at 4:45 PM. He questioned the stability that Gibbs has brought or is bringing. So, what stability is Gibbs bringing to the Skins for the future of this team? |

Most of us say, well, we need Gibbs to stick it out because we need to be in a stable situation or whatever. While I agree with that in principle, I'm not sure staying for five years for the sake of creating a stable environment is the solution either. Just to be clear, I'm not calling for Gibbs head, I'm just saying 5 yrs of losing will eventually put us back at square one anyway. The only way for this to really be solved is winning. Gibbs has to turn this around in the next two years. |

Why, because the truth hurts!
Actually, I agree completely that Gibbs staying for 5 years just for the sake of staying doesn't contribute to consistency. It's what he does with those 5 years that will matter. I don't think any "Gibbs' lovers" would deny that. This post has officially been "touched". |

Just nevermind. He's still in 2005 with his CBA talk. Do they make dummyaide yet? |
Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
I am new here but does anyone else wonder why we can't narrow our playcalling down to the plays we called in the first half of the game against the falcons. A healthy dose of either betts or portis and then go for the big play with santana. I realize that with campbell we will struggle(like we already have) but i believe that is what we need.
|
Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
I don't know how anyone here can really pay any attention to anything 61cad says. He made a big stink over the cap hell we'll be in if we don't get the CBA deal done in the off-season, and has yet to acknowledge that he didn't realize the deal was extended last spring (through 2011). So he's being negatvie just for the sake of being negative.

Did you watch the game yesterday? That's exactly what we saw. They pounded the ball and took a few shots down the field. Welcome by the way. |

Why, because the truth hurts!
Why is that? Just like what Matty said, it's what he does while he's here. He's trying every avenue possible to get this team back to good standings. Everybody bitched, moaned, and complained about needing an offensive coordinator, so that's what Gibbs did. Gibbs took a back seat and an "hands off" approach to this year, and because of it, we're 4-9. In retrospect, we would've been much better off not hiring Saunders and just adding the talent we needed to run Gibbs' offense. I suspect Gibbs will take a more hands on approach next season, and I believe we will benefit from him doing so. |

mattyk...i did watch the game yesterday but santana moss only caught the ball twice...we will not win when our best playmaking threat only has two catches

Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
Yea Saunders is calling the plays. That is the usual job of the offensive coordinator. I think the only questionable play call was the slant to Cooley on 3rd and 9 that got picked off. It was a bad play for that situation. The playcalling was good and particularly balanced which is Saunders theme. 205 passing and 210 rushing is solid. The simple reson for the loss is 2 INT's that resulted in 14 points.
I agree on all counts, what's the point in blaming Gibbs, who isnt calling the plays, when u have an inexperienced QB managing an offense that had lost their starting center and had already had poorly timed exchanges earlier in the game on a 4th and goal from the 4 with plenty of time on the clock. Yes, u are down by 5 but ultimately ur defense has shut them down in the second half and momentum is in ur favor. There is no reason to believe that u can't get a stop with 2 timeouts and a 2 minute warning. Why jeopardize that by possibly failing to convert on the goal line and ending the game right there? Its really easy to monday morning QB the game but the game was what is was and there is no reason to point fingers now. Campbell is gonna have to go thru his growing pains in these next couple of games so that he can lead this team next year that should be our main concern. |
Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
Gibbs is not calling the plays because Gibbs hates the slant pass. If the that pass isn't picked off the skins win.
