Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
I just don't think half a season justifies a pro bowl selection, unless the stats are through the roof -- which Romo's aren't. Not to mention, Vick's passing stats would be better if his receivers could catch.
However, the big thing that stand out in my mind is: Vick will be the first QB to rush for over 1000 yards in a season, and he won't even make the pro bowl (with above average passing numbers). |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
I think Samuels deserves it. He' s had a good year. Most of us watch every single game and play. We're going to notice if he gets beat occasionally. Everybody gets beat occasionally. We should be grateful to have him.
|
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Did Tony Romo beat the Saints? No. Did Jason Campbell beat the Saints? Yes.
We wuz robbed!!!! Seriously though, is there a rule that says 3 QBs have to be picked? Couldn't they have just taken Brees and Bulger and used that 3rd QB position on another position instead? Because there aren't really three deserving NFC QBs this year |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Haha. Good argument.
From NFL.com -Passing- Romo: 183 of 276 for 2440 yards and 16 TDs with 10 INTs (98.4) Vick: 187 of 354 for 2284 yards and 19 TDs with 11 INTs (77.9) -Rushing- Romo: 44 yards on 27 carries with no TDs Vick: 990 yards on 116 carries with 2 TDs I'd argue that both have been impact players for their teams, and have been major contributors to winning. However, Vick has started all 14 games, and Romo has only started in 8. Judging by passing numbers alone, I'd probably send Romo. But, when you consider that Vick will have over 1000 yards rushing, it's a no-brainer. How can you discount the rushing yards?
What about Vick's pathetic 52.8 completion percentage? He has just 2284 passing yards (163 per game), and then there's that very mediocre QB rating. He has the rushing yards, but that only goes to prove how one dimensional he is as a QB. He didn't deserve to get in last year and he certainly doesn't deserve it this year. Romo has more yards passing in 6 less starts and is only 3 TDs behind him! Believe me I'm not a huge fan of Romo getting in based on just 8 starts, but it just goes to show how weak the NFC is regarding QBs this year. If McNabb hadn't gone down he would have been a lock. |

His stats are through the roof though, project them out to a full season he would have over 4000 yards and over 30 TDs. |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Sure, but that's what you HAVE to do though. You have to see stats throughout a full season. The rest of NFL QBs have to go through their respective ups and downs throughout the season, why should he be any different? If you looked at Rex Grossman's projected stats throughout the first four or five games, it would look pretty similar.

As for Vick's completion percentage, his receivers drop more passes than any other team. Can you blame Vick? I think if Vick had Owens and Glenn his passing numbers would be better. The one dimension argument doesn't work very well, if you consider that Romo is also one dimensional -- just in the opposite manner. Yeah, Vick didn't deserve to go last year, and Romo doesn't deserve to go this year. Why make the same mistake twice? |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
The thing is Romo's one dimension is much more desirable and valuable than Vick's one dimension. When was the last scrambling QB to win the big one?
Garcia has better stats over the last 4 games, why not let him in? Point is, Homo has played 9 games out of 14. That's not enough, IMO, to make the Pro Bowl.
Not to mention he's had a couple of bad games recently.
Ok so 9 games ain't enough but 4 are? and man if Garcia would had played 9 games there would be some bad games there they all have. Really which QB in the NFC with 16 games other than Brees has played better than Romo. |

Really which QB in the NFC with 16 games other than Brees has played better than Romo.
You should turn up your sarcasm detector. The point is that all players (except LT, apparently) hit hot and cold streaks. As TMC mentioned, you can't just remove part of the season and extrapolate. Homo did not have to play Jacksonville or Philly in the beginning of the season, when the Cowgirls were not playing well as a team. You know his stats would have suffered for those games. Also, he had the benefit of not carrying the entire season on his shoulders when he became a starter. Who knows what he would have done if he had started from day 1. The only thing that is certain is that we don't know, and that he hasn't proved himself over the course of the entire season. And, to shortcut the argument, there is a big difference between missing a game or two due to injury as opposed to not playing until the middle of the season as QB. |

There were 16 QBs that played better than Homo through the first 5 games. Seriously, though, if the Cowgirls are going to have a great player on their team, how happy am I that his name rhymes with "Homo"? |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Chris Cooley C'mon I really like the guy and hey he owns our team but if you compare him with the other TE (because he's a TE discaised asa H-back) he isn't in the top 2
C.Cooley 45 rec 608 yds 5td A.Crumpler 47 rec 677 7 td J.Shockey 64 rec 626 7td J.Witten 54 rec 642 1td It's clear that just plai nstats both Shokey and Crumpler have had a better year and deserv their election I could also agree that Cooley deserves the first alternate spot more than witten. Also the S.Taylor comment he's a guy with a lot of potential but he has had a bad year he has taken a lot of bad angles has given up tons of TD, missed tackles you can't say he's having a better year than last year. You can say anything about roy but he leads the nfl safeties in Turnovers with 7 5 int 2 FR S.Taylor 94 Tkl 71 solo 1 int 3 FF B.Dawkins the FSthat it's going has 87tkl 67 solo 1sack 3 int 4FF And Dawkins hasn't given as many TD is that stat would be shown |

The only Qb if he hadn't been Injured that I believe deservedit way more than Romo is McNabb |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
OK, then I choose McNabb. He's played in as many games, has more TDs, fewer INTs, and more yardage.
As for Roethlisberger, the only game he didn't play was the opener (he missed the first game, played most of the 2nd, and then was rested the final game of the season). So, he played in 13 out of 14 games, as opposed to 9 out of 14. That's a big difference. |

Just a fyi, Cooley is officially a TE now. Saunders' offense doesn't use the H-back. |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Romo is going to the pro bowl on the strength of his team. Vick is staying home for the opposite reason. If you compare the two INDIVIDUALS, then I can't see how anyone can say Vick is worse -- he's got 1000 rushing yards! Hello! That's three zeros. I don't care if he's a QB -- he's accounted for moving the ball the entire length of the field 10 times!

The ironic thing is if the media hadn't been swinging all over his nuts for the past 5 weeks enshrining him in the Hall of Fame already they fans wouldn't have gone overboard in voting for him. |

Romo is a Pro Bowler this year. Vick stinks bad. Romo turned Dallas around and was more of a impact player in fewer games. I agree with you on this arguement. |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
See, if this was the case, why isn't Betts getting mentioned for the Pro Bowl? His past few games have been PHENOMENAL, so why not him?

Too late to get him added to the ballot, even then the backs in the NFC are too deep, Westbrook got shafted. |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Romo is the only qb that hasn't sucked other than brees and bulger, that's why he went. There is no one else, Vick never deserved it in other years, why this year?

You need 5 games as a starter to be consider and in those 5 games he ahs to show more and convince more people that the other guys that have played the hole year. Like L.Jhonson did last year in the 9 games he started. |

I can live with TO getting snubbed. Sucks for him but when you act like an ass on a weekly basis you're not going to win many people over. Seriously, this guy is all about drama. He's a soap opera, I really can't wait to see him retire.

I think with a healthy McNabb, Romo still get's in. Yes, even over Bulger.
I'm sure he got tons of support from fans, but you have to consider his peers voted too. |
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
If Romo is a Pro Bowler, than Betts should be starting. Project Betts numbers out across an entire season, he'd probably break every record in the book.
|
Re: Death, Taxes, and Samuels in the Pro Bowl
Few points:
Why are people upset that Samuels made the pro-bowl and contend that he is overrated? I guess you people would be happy if we had no one. That makes a lot of sense. Roy Williams making it over Dawkins is almost criminal. Dawkins hits just as hard except he can actually cover. Whoever voted for Williams must have blocked out the Redskins and Saints games because you could argue that Williams is one of the worst safeties in the league from those horrid performances. Lastly. D'Boyz claiming that Larry Allen is overrated? Sour grapes chief. I said it when they lost him, I will say it now. Larry Allen was the best lineman they had and he is better than any of their linemen now. It isn't a coincidence that the Niners runningback is leading the NFC. |

Romo plays for a probable division winner and definite playoff team. He wouldn't break the touchdown record... (which is still being made) |

"Sean Taylor, FS, Redskins: Cowboys safety Roy Williams has no business on this team, even though he's a strong safety and Taylor a free safety. Williams can't cover at all. Taylor is not only a big hitter, but he has range. There should be one strong safety (Adrian Wilson) and two free safeties (Taylor and Brian Dawkins)." How come the NFC roster has 2 Strong Safeties (Adrian Wilson & Roy Williams) and only one Free Safety (Brian Dawkins). And the AFC roster has it versa vice ... 2 FS (Ed Reed & Jon Lynch) and 1 SS (Troy Polamalu)
It Dont make a no sense to me |
