Re: News from the Combine

I agree that a suitable backup can be found for Portis, but thats not even the issue. If we are gonna shop around Betts, it should be for something that this team needs. Thats either draft picks and/or and upgrade on the defensive line or secondary. Our linebacking core doesn't need that much help, esp not enuff to sacrifice our #6 pick AND betts. Like ppl were saying Betts stock is sky high right now and IF we are gonna shop him we had better get a lot more than what we would for that lopsided Vilma trade...

On another note, as good as he may be I always thought a guys whose last name is Vilma, sounded too close to Wilma and i don't know if i can cheer for such an effeminate sounding name. haha

Re: News from the Combine

The head scratcher is that we traded our 3rd rounder for Duckett. It makes sense to try to aquire more picks involving Betts since his stock is as high as it's going to get.
Not advocating the move but I would think that they will find someone serviceable to backup Clinton. Who knows, it may be someone that doesn't fumble...
This is true... I just don't want portis having to take a full load. If we can find a good back-up then I can see the trade happening.

I'd rather keep Betts, but if we're going to trade him...Betts and the #6 to Houston for the #8 and the #40.

See, i dont really understand why you would like this trade...

Here you are suggesting to trade down from number 6 to number 8, which in itself could command a 2nd or 3rd round pick...depending on how badly the team wanted to move up to get a player available at #6.

And then trading betts away for a 2nd round pick...

So if you count the value of going from 6th overall to 8th overall...then you are essentially suggesting we trade Betts and a 2nd or 3rd rd pick (which is the value we could get for dropping from 6th to 8th) for the texans 2nd rounder... I dont really see how this would be a beneficial trade from our angle.

Ideally I'd say #6 for #8 and #40 but it would seem like we may have to add a little extra for that.
TO HELL WITH THAT! Betts had 1154 rushing yards last year and he only started 7 games I think. 7! Add 445 recieving yards and 5 overall TD's and I say thats pretty damn good. Why would we trade a back who has just proved himself as being able to carry a nice load of work AND a high pick for an above average LB and 25th pick? I like Vilma, he's cool and all but WTF! Trading down is not a good idea. On one hand, Vilma could really shore up the defense but then the quality of our pick decreases pretty greatly. Yeah, there might be people at that spot worth taking but, I think the draft could go any which crazy ways so.....ok...I'm too F-ed up right now from staying up all night partying, it's time to sleep. I'll finish this later. Hahah
yeah that pretty much sums it up if we odnt get an extra pick (like the one we gave them last year what the hell were we thinking then this deal is str8 up bulls***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it alway's SEEEEEEEMS that way to a lot of people within the organization, thats why we constantly come out with the short end of the stick.

We will not make a trade until the draft starts to unfold and teams see the player their targeting become available, they will be willing to pay more as the pick approaches and they know they can get their guy, personally I believe Peterson can be a big chip for us to play if he's still there when we pick, the Panthers have a huge need a RB, they may be the team willing to give up the most to get Peterson if he's still available. Quinn could be another guy that's available when we pick and possibly bring back quite a bit.

Re: News from the Combine

I'm not sure why people around here don't want to trade a back up running back( with fumbling issues) for a proven, pro bowl middle linebacker. we definitely need someone in the middle. yet, on the flip side, alot of these same people seem to have no problem signing a 32 year old middle linebacker, when the last 2 times we have tried that, have failed miserably( trotter, barrow)? by signing fletcher, this puts the skins in the exact same position they are in , about 2 seasons from now. this is assuming they can get 2 years out of fletcher

I don't think that's the real concern. It's dropping from #6 to #25 and not adding any other picks that's the concern

Calvin Johnson is 6'5 235 lbs and ran a 4.3. If he somehow slips to the 6th pick I hope like hell we take him. That is if we still have our pick.
how much do you guys really think betts is going to carry the ball with portis healthy? remember how many carries larry johnson was getting when priest holmes was healthy? rock cartwright can pick up those 7-10 carries. we NEED vilma, a proven all pro middle linebacker
100 % percent agree, but Cartwright tends to fumble the ball.

Re: News from the Combine
They better get something else for that 6th pick. Betts for vilma, OK, but # 6 for just a #25, no second. that would be a questionable move on our part. we would still be stuck with 1 pick the first day, and a hole to fill at RB, since TJ is a free agent, and all we have is Rock.

BAD MOVE
I agree. The deal would be worht it with some more picks thrown into the mix. I thought the Skins FO had seen the light and realized they need to build through the draft. Trading down and still having one pick on day one wouldn't help. You'd think they'd realize when teams trade up they usually throw in a few more picks, especially since, that's how we've gotten rid of ours.

Re: News from the Combine

the jets have to sweeten the deal a little more, i agree with all the guys saying bad move if we dont get a 2nd or maybe even a 3rd rounder. heres my plan of action: 1) resign doc, 2) sign kerney, this guy is a total beast, 3) make the draft day deal with the jets if they sweeten it. IF LARON LANDRY IS AVALIABLE (HE WONT BE) PICK HIM OTHERWISE pick Willis, Posluszny, or Timmions. Then with the second or third pick cb-s eric weddle out of utah(smart/instinctive football player who can play the game at a high speed). Thats what our boys need to do. ..........its very hard for me to think like that because i think jamal anderson is the next coming.............oh and would anybody trade our 6th pick for juluis peppers?

man do i hope you dont work for the skins front office. with so many glaring needs, about the last thing the skins need is another wide out

oh and i forgot to tell you that rocky macintosh isnt good enough thats why we go lb at number 25 instead of db or dline. all three of those linebackers can out play him esspecially willis and posluszny. its hard to admit it but i said it was bust last year when they drafted him. i hope he works out but right now it was a idiot mistake to trade up to get him, awful.

You mean the same way we picked Carlos Rogers when we had a glaring need at corner instead of picking Shawne Merriman, yeah passing on a phenom reciever who ran a 4.3 forty at 6'5" would definately be the smart thing, god knows Brandon Lloyd,James Thrash and Randle El just strike fear in the heart of opponents.

Wow, your really good, you can tell Mcintosh is a bust after he played in a couple games, amazing. First off, Posluzny doesnt have half the athleticism that Rocky has and not to mention he has bad knees. Pat Willis is a monster, but again your comparing a speedy OLB to a bruising MLB, it just doesnt make sense, its sort of like comparing Ray Lewis to Cato June.

We are not good enough to draft for need. Did the Saints need a RB last year? No. They took the best player on the board. The Texans drafted for need and you see where it got them.

Only positions that are off limits are QB and RB. Otherwise it should be fair game.

no it isnt... if mcintosh is good he would have played over warrick holdman, just like taylor got his chance and lavar too ended up starting his rookie season. giving guys time to develope on defense is a myth. this isnt quarterback. oh and about those bad knees.....he never missed a game in his penn state carreer buddy. ripped his knee in half in that last game against florida state, made it back to start game 1 the folllowing year. bad knees!!! give me a break. the athletism comment is also dumbfounding to me because there is no way you watched penn state play the last two years if you make that comment. plus i want a football player not an athlete playing linebacker, poslz is twice the player mcintosh is on the football field...look at the production in college and compare them and then tell me why mcintosh couldnt crack the starting line up until game 14

I would be amazed if Posluszny is picked in the first round. I watched him play many many times in college. He was a great college player, but that doesn't mean it will translate at the next level. Just watch. He will fall. Also didn't we fire the LB coach because he was a hack. It's not Rocky's fault the coach was an idiot. I mean anyone who keeps Holdman on the field that long has no business coaching in the NFL. Everything I saw from McIntosh when he did play seemed like he has lots of potential.

I say if the Redskins pick at #6 and Anderson is gone they will go with Amobi Okoye. He will be the first DT taken. Branch has underachiever written all over him.

I don't have a problem with Okoye. It seems that he is still growing into his body. Why do you say this about Branch? He was a very productive player at Mich. Anderson only had one good year and was on no one's radar a year ago.

I am weary of another small DE but I liked what G. Adams had to say in this article:

washingtonpost.com

If they're worried about drafting a small DE, a trade down to get Carricker makes sense as he is likely to be around mid to late first rnd.

we can still get a quality linemen later in the draft. and having quality in the middle, the guy calling the shots, could help a ton. it seemed like guys were out of position all the time last year.

The problem is that you have watched Penn State play all year the last two years, so that makes you partial to Poz, hes a decent player, not great, and if we traded back and picked Poz over Pat Willis I would go insane. Can Poz run down Brian Westbrook or cover Jason Witten? Hes just not athletic enough. Lawrence Timmons is a better LB than Poz, I think all this is pointless anyways, because im pretty certain were going to pick Gaines Adams.

no more arguing, i hope rocky pans out...but he was an average college player and he hasnt proven anything to the coaches or anyone else that he can play better than average. plus all this can poslz guard this guy or that guy is rediculous because if i recall our best linebacker cant even do that. brian westbrook blew right by washington twice this year. i doubt rocky mcintosh can get the job done either, but my point giantssuck is that they dont need to cover those guys one on one to be a good LINEBACKER(you are talking about coverage ability like its corner) in the league.
