Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
DO NOT TRADE BETTS. that would be a mistake. In the NFL today you need 2 backs atleast..

Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
I just feel like there are teams out there that would be willing to give up an awfull lot for him. The man had 1,000 yds on 6 starts.
I have no problem holding on to him if we don't get offered anything that crazy, I just have a feeling that by draft time someone will realize they want Betts real bad.
Yeah, the Vilma and the #25 pick for Betts and our #6 pick made me want to barf. So I would have said thanks, but no thanks to that one. If you're right, maybe they were just dangling something out there to see if we'd bite. Betts for a second is just right. Betts for a third and a player or another pick next year would be fine too. But you definitely have to keep him if teams keep trying to offer us crap. |
I hear you, but if the price is right, he'd be a real gem of a free agent pickup. Could be one of the more underrated acquisitions this season. OL depth is something we needed, and he'd fill that role perfectly.
I thought he'd been around longer than eight years -- turns out he was drafted in the same class as Jansen.
I thought he was older than that, too. If the price is right, it might make sense. |
If healthy he'd be a great pickup. I love the fact he can play guard and tackle.
I remember when Petitgout was drafted by the Giants (same year as Champ Bailey, but farther down the board), they weren't too happy at draft headquarters. But all-in-all, he's been a serviceable player, discounting the recent injury woes. If they can get him without giving him too generous of a bonus, why not? Frankly (unintended MartySpeak), I'd rather pick up another "cheap" project or two and let Buges have a go at 'em. I believe they snatched Dockery off the trash heap from the Patriots cut list and he turned out decent after a year. |

Dockery was a 3rd rd pick after we drafted Jacobs. |

Did Mitchell elaborate as to why he felt this way? I'm usually with BMitch on his criticism of the Skins front office, but not on this one. As long as the price is right, Petitgout is just what we need -- he can step in Dockery's place at guard, while providing excellent depth at tackle. |

Re: ( Merged)Skins Interested in Luke Petitgout
Heres an update from LaCanfora's blog...
Heard Petitgout had a very nice visit to the Park before taking off back home (he lives in Delaware). Heard he looked good and appeared healthy according to some (Petitgout broke his fibula in November), and the film the straff watched on him was pretty impressive. In fact, at least a few people were wondering why exactly the Giants cut him in the first place, thinking maybe there was something unknown. 'Cause he looked good, he didn't save the Giants much of a cap hit, he's been a quality statting LT in this league for a long time and he just got a $10-million signing bonys from the G-men in 2003. So what gives? Anyway, NFL people say he has suffered from back problems, but I would't rule out the Skins getting something done barring him looking for another Dockery deal (he recently fired his Tom Condon and hired Rosenhaus, so with him that's always a possibility). Negotiations between the Skins and Petitgout are ongoung, and he already visited Tampa and has drawn interest from other teams as well. However, there is not a sense from the Skins that they need to dive in here, either, and as I've said, this is a position where some coaches feel you can plug in from a mid-level free agent or draft pick. -0- Randoms: Found out today that Smoot got $7 million to sign. Not a bad payday at all. I also hear that the 2008 base salary might be guaranteed, so I am guessing he gets like $8.5 guaranteed in that 5 year, $25 million deal. Should have the firm details tomorrow ... Don't look now, but I hear the Broncos might be bringing in another decent corner for a free agent visit this week. Makes me wonder if they won't end up trading Dre' Bly if he becomes more trouble than he's worth. And you guys already know at least one team that thinks highly of him. I'm just sayin ... As of early tonight the Skins had no addition free-agent visits planned, but we all know that's always subject to change ... Okay, going to try to relax for a minute here and watch the second half of Chelsea/Portsmouth on TIVO. Cheers.
|

Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
isnt he a tackle? lets get a guard to play guard. i dont understand everyone wanting to convert players to different positions
He started his NFL career at Left Guard. Does anyone know if that is where he played in college? I think he would make a very good signing, probably start at left guard, but even as an all round back-up on the o-line, i'd be happy with him. Obviously not for Doc money but even a good bit above vet min i'd still be happy with him. |
he was a tackle at nd
Thanks, is it odd that the giants draft him in the first round, then convert him to guard then to tackle, then switch the side he plays on? Or is that something that happens often? The more i read about this guy, i am starting to get the impression that he might be a jack-of-all trades but a master-of-none? Still stick by my previous post tho. |
Re: Skins interested in Luke Petitgout
Welcome to the board. They drafted Dockery
Thanks to SmootSmack for correcting my very obvious mistake on Dockery's origin to the Skins... I do remember he was considered a project at the time they got him, but how they got him I was dead wrong about. I must have confused him with some other practice squad pickup from that year. Fortunately, with the Skins' current trend of trading picks away, it should be less likely that I'll confuse which of our players were actually drafted by us. The real challenge will be to keep track of what players other teams draft from picks that the Skins have tossed overboard (Jets traded our former 2007 2nd rounder [#37 pick] to the Bears for Thomas Jones and another pick today). Back to the original point, I don't think vet minimum is a realistic price for Petitgout. But anyway you look at it, he should be more affordable than the Dockery, Davis, Steinbach and Dielman contracts. |
Re: ( Merged)Skins Interested in Luke Petitgout
Redskins.com just reported that Petigout signed with the Bucs.
