Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
What if Oakland gets David Carr and then decides to draft CJ? Who would the Lions get with the 8th pick? Brady Quinn likely wouldn't be there. JaMarcus Russell wouldn't be there and neither would Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out- and affects the Skins...
What has Carr done in the NFL.Nothing so why would Oakland want him as there #1.I also live about a hour away from Detroit and there are rumors that the Lions want one of the defensive players in the draft.Lets face it the Lions need help at almost every position. So they could fill one of there holes at 8.By the way there is the possibility that Peterson will be there. |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
Well, now the Falcons sit at 8. Okoye played for Petrino at Louisville, so I'm betting that we're going to have to stay ahead of them to get him.
I think you're right, especially considering that Kearny left via FA. |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Would be a GREAT choice for them. I wonder if they'll try to trade down and grab CJ.
Now you already know! |
Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Unfortunately that's the type of mentality our front office has of picking for need as if we're one player away. Take the best player available, especially if he is as can't miss as Johnson. No way anyone can think that he wouldn't be an upgrade over Lloyd and Thrash.. Moss is set at #1 and Randle-El is a strong #3, if Johnson falls we'd be FOOLS not to pick him.
These are my thoughts exactly. We aren't one player away, which in my reasoning, if Johnson is there we take him. Period. CJ is a bigger upgrade as his respective position than any of the available defensive lineman are at theirs. |

There's not a lot that any QB can do from lying on his back 10- 20 times per game. You could be Peyton Manning, but if you don't have a good O Line to protect you, then you'll look crappy. I think Carr has great potential, he's just in a sticky situation. A change of scenery would probably do him well. PS. Aaron Brooks hasn't really done anything in the NFL and Oakland wanted him last season. Just saying |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
The Houston Texans made a bad move here. I'm sorry but David Carr is a good QB and should have been given a decent Oline and a RB before they moved on from him. I don't think they have upgraded the QB position at all and have traded away to much to get Schaub. An unproven winner in this league. I'm sorry but weren't the Falcons like 4-11 when Vick went down with injury a few years back. Wasn't it Matt Schaub the QB when Patrick Ramsey made a great comeback against the falcons when we were down like 3 touchdowns at one point.
Nice to see someone else making bad trades other than us this year. I mean come on 2 2nd round picks and a move up two spots in the first round for a guy who has done nothing. People are hyped up on this guy and they have been for awhile. Big mistake. Good Job Texans. |

Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
So, there is a Front Office worse then our's. First Mario Williams, now you give up way too much (a 1st and two 2nd rounders) only to downgrade the QB position.
I'm sorry but I am not convinced that Schaub is better than Carr...how about using those draft picks to trade for an offensive line. |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
The comments regarding the Texans' offensive line are spot-on. Shaub will be come "One with the Turf" if they don't get that front five fixed.

Re: Texans Reportedly Close to Deal fo Schaub
Well, there are a lot of differences between Rob Johnson and Matt Schaub. I don't think that was a good comparison.
Schaub completed 67% of his passes in 32 starts at Virginia. That's very good. However, he wasn't espicially highly sought after coming out of college. We can either say: 1. The scouts were wrong. They simply overlooked this guy. OR 2. Schaub's stats are a product of his college system. I'd put my money on the former. Al Groh hasn't exactly pumped out QBs since Schaub left. Schaub can be very good, and I'm almost certain he will represent an improvement over Carr. But he's NOT a sure thing because of his draft position. He's got a lot of stuff to prove to the scouts who didn't give him a top two round grade. Rob Johnson, on the other hand, was a talentless QB. Everyone knew that but Wade Phillips.
I don't care about his college stats. Look at his professional stats. He is below 50%. I think one game when he filled in for Vick he was 17-42. Guy played terrible. I understand he does have some upside but two 2nd rounders and a 1st round swap? That's way too high. Plus what have the Texans done to upgrade the o-line? Texans have NO CLUE what they are doing overpaying for an unproven QB. |

I mean terrible. And not just sophmore playing on a bad team terrible. Terrible like he didn't look like he'd ever amount to anything. Then all of a sudden he grew a little and his arm got stronger and voila the kid was probably the best QB in the nation over his final two seasons combined. You're point about the o-line is spot on. I don't care who their QB is they still can't protect him. That'll matter more than who the QB actually is. |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
their front office is a mess. last season they could have taken home grown vince young. then they sign carr to an extension. now, instead of waiting on draft day, and hoping quinn falls to them, they give away alot for shaub? he hasnt proven anything so far. and statistically last season carr was pretty good. their o line was downright horrible.

Rookie QBs are players that need time to develop, unless your name is Vince Young. If the kid has no one protect him, he can't pass the ball. I feel like Carr has just become a scape goat, for an overall bad situation. I don't think it matters who you put back there, Houston is gonna be awful until they shore up that leak. I think the Raiders will get Russell too, I was just addressing the point you made about unproven/underachieving players |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
6 year, $48 million deal for Schaub, $7 million guaranteed
|
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
that move was really suprising to me. I know he was a hot comodity for some teams, but with Patrino I thought he would prefer a pure passer if Vick isn't working out. I just dont see Vick being able to run his offense. He needs to move around to get good passing lanes due to his size and Patrino's offense is more for a stand in the pocket QB. I thought Schaub would have given Vick a run for the starting job. Personally, I trade Vick while people in this league think he is a good/great QB. I think the Falcons will never win big with Vick. my opinion.

Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
I kind of upset with this move only because of the skin intentions of moving to the texans position in the draft

I don't know. Any owner who's able to amass three Lombardi trophies in his first seven years can't be that idiotic. Now, he lost a couple of notches when he dumped Jimmy Johnson, no doubt about that. And I think the jury is still out on the T.O. signing. |

You don't think he was instrumental in any way? He hired Jimmy Johnson, helped engineer the Herschel Walker trade with Minnesota, and was the lead guy in a series of fantastic drafts. The only player that was already there was Michael Irvin. I hate to toot the horn for the Cowpies, but objectively speaking, you can't deny he was pivotal in the resurgence of that franchise. |

Agreed, but since the Jimmy Johnson era, all the coaches were "yes men" until Parcells. He's also created an atmosphere that has allowed players to go over the heads of the coaching staff and go directly to him when they have a problem which is a bit unprofessional. And since the Cowboys last Superbowl win, he's tried to buy championships like Snyder and Steinbrenner. |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
I'll admit the shine on Jones' armor has begun to fade and take a few dents. I just don't think he belongs in the bottom 3 of all general managers.
|
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
I wouldn't put Jones at the bottom of the pack either, but he's clearly middle of the road now.

Kubiak is supposed to be a QB guru so it certainly doesn't say much for Carr given that he gave up on him after one year.
|

You can be the best QB guru in the world, but if you don't have someone who is an offensive line guru, your QB won't be worth a crap.

Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
Carr, Harrington and Ramsey. So much for the QB class of 2002.
Also chosen that year: Josh McCown, Arizona (3rd round)(On Detroit Roster 2006) David Garrard, Jacksonville (Still with Jax) Rohan Davey, New England (4th) (Last Played in 2004) Randy Fasani, Carolina (5th) (Last Played 2002) Kurt Kittner, Atlanta (5th) (Last Played 2003) Brandon Doman, San Francisco (5th)(Never Played) Craig Nall, Green Bay (5th) (On Buffalo's Roster in 2006) J.T. O'Sullivan, New Orleans (6th) (Last Played 2004) Seth Burford, San Diego (7th) (Never Played) Jeff Kelly, Seattle (7th) (Never Played) Wes Pate, Baltimore (7th) (Never Played) Not a particularly stellar year for QB's. |
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
Man, I didn't think they would end up dumping Carr, insane. I guess he wouldn't mind though since that would be the best way he would end up on another team.
|
Re: Falcons Trade Matt Schaub to Houston
Schaub stats aren't as good as Cambells and Cambell has only played 7 games.
When are the Texans going to learn that all that money in a unproven product is not going to get you to the next level...has anyone seen my stone?...last I had it, it was thrown toward that glass house. |
