As a aspiring coach. I can tell you it is a combination of things. 1st the blind side. because when you are in your [U][COLOR=black]drop[/COLOR],[/U] and your right handed your blind side is the left because your body opens up to the right. 2nd the reason that the better pass rushers are on the left is because usually the TE is on the right, especially if the Quarterback is right handed for obvious reasons. Why put your best pass rusher up against potential double team? For further sake of arguement T's are just like any other position in the NFL. regardless of what hand your QB is a LT is going to stay on the left side and a RT will stay on the right. They pretty much do not swap. As a norm the LT is usually the better tackle. Question: did we flip Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen when Brunell was in? No we didn't.

I was really surprised by how many people include Campbell on their list. And while a steady QB is important, he's now a first year starter...much easier to replace than many veterans.

2. Clinton Portis (For laughs - as much as anything else)
3. Chris Cooley (doesn't really need an explanation)
4. Santana Moss (speed demon)
5. Cornelious Griffin (for O and D Line needs - he can play both ways).

I agree, because as Gregg Williams has taught us, it's the system that makes a great defense and not the players... oh wait :doh:

Seriously though, I don't think having four people with "Head Coach" in their job title on the same team works. At least not in the first year or two. I do think all of the coaches listed know what they're doing and have proven that their systems work in the NFL, but throwing them all into the same cluster F of an organization and telling them to play nice and fix it doesn't seem to be working.

Well for one thing Gibbs practically staked his reputation this time around on Campbell with all those draft picks he gave up. Secondly, he's the starting QB!! If you had to make this top 5 list for every team in the league, the starting QB would be on close to all of them. We aren't the 2000 Ravens. Aside from the Danny, the lack of consistent QB play has plagued this team more than anything since Gibbs left. Campbell is no Heath Shuler. He has the tools to be a big time NFL QB. I think that JC will be the 2nd best QB in the division behind McNabb this year, which would warrant him as a top 5 player for us.

I understand the concept, and don't necessarily disagree to him being listed.

However, Gibbs has taken 3 QBs, mediocre or otherwise, to the Super Bowl. And he staked his reputation on a certain Mark Brunell...

It's just hard for me to place faith on a kid who has 7 starts, when there are other holes. If this were a top 10 list, JC would be on mine...

the original question posed was if we could only sign 5 players b/c of FA (this eliminates coaches and draft picks): <in no particular order>

- Clint Portis
- Sean Taylor
- Jason Campbell
- Chris Samuels
- Jon Jansen

WR's & TE's are expendable cuz there are many ways to get production our of mediocre receivers; two offensive linemen IMO b/c they can help both the passing and running game; QB & RB both needed for a balanced offense; the secondary is the hardest place to find franchise level players on the defense and since none of our CB's are stellar u gotta go with Taylor...plus he is a freakin beast!

While I understand the apprehension, just give it one more year. We were not so negative when we made the playoffs in 05. Last year was just an ugly set back. Hard to compete when your entire secondary suffered injuries.

I am one of the people who routinely dumps on Samuels, maybe its me but I think a top 5 left tackle's signature move should not be shaking his head and clapping his hands as he picks up his quarterback after said LT's man just beat him on yet another simple move.

I am shocked at how many people are listing Campbell. I hope he will be great, but at this point he is in the top 5 most important players on the whole team?! I guess it depends upon how you define important.

Moss has to be there, look what he did with Brunell tossing him the ball, imagine how good he could be with a good QB!

[B]Portis[/B] (Still got a few years of his best left, super fast and tough, great team man aswell)
[B]Cooley[/B] (The TE, can go across the middle, can go deep, breaks tackles, blocks and at such a young age seems to be a leader for the o!)
[B]Thomas[/B] (Had to have someone from the best part of this team, i.e. o-line!)
[B]Taylor[/B] (Young, seems to have settled down and what a beast, should become a big time playmaker)

Good to see you on the board again! I can only speak for myself, but I think a lot of people are listing Campbell because his performance will in all likelihood largely dictate our season. He's not the best player at his position on our team, but his position is the most critical one on the team.

1. [B]CP[/B]- The man is the backbone of this team and embodies what we stand for. Period.
2. Moss- C'mon...what else do I[I] REALLY[/I] need to say? He's the best at what he does.
3. Sean Taylor- The Beheader/Destoyer IMO will evolve into a Brain Urlacher-like commander on D. And I like watching him hit people.
4. Jon Jansen- Bleeds the Burgundy and Gold. A BIG vertebrae in the spine of the Redskin team.
5. Ade Jimoh- The kids all heart. He plays with fierceness and intensity that you rarely see from a Special Teamer/NB. Oh, and Ade lays the friggin wood.

There are lots more that need to be here but, Top 5 List it is.
