Re: Gun Restrictions and Your Rights
one of my buddies was just bragging at work the other day because he had just purchased an AK 47. what exactly would someone use that for?
|
Re: Gun Restrictions and Your Rights
Anything, any other gun is used for. There are MANY collectors in the world as well. Realistically, probably because he can.

They're used to hunt today's super animals like the flying squirrel and the electric eel... |
Re: Gun Restrictions and Your Rights
To put in your crotch where you obviously are lacking in that department if you need an AK-47.

Now that is a good question. I see no good reason for assault weapons being legal. |

When you look at it, (so called) assault weapons are no different than any other firearm. They were branded with an Evil name, and the politico's convinced us they were bad. They do not do anything, any other semi-automatic firearm, does not do. |
Re: Gun Restrictions and Your Rights
Could someone tell me why police almost always oppose the liberalization of gun laws?

I don't have a problem with making them illegal or make them so you have to go through a major back ground check (at buyers expense) and it would be a major crime to re-sell the gun to anyone who did not have that proper permit. |

I'm not sure if that is true or is that what the liberal media wants us to think. I'm not going to interview a cop who says its OK if I'm against guns. |

What is the purpose of a (so called) assault weapons ban?
I would think that more disclosure from medical records could help. Maybe if someone is admitted to counseling or is taking certain types of drugs, they aren't allowed to have one.
That's exactly what I feel should be done. The easiest solution for this is that anyone who seeks treatment for a mental condition either voluntarily or involuntarily would be subject to an evaluation for firearms as well. What I mean by that is if while in treatment, a doctor is alerted to a specific type of behavior he deems dangerous, then the doctor would be required to send a notice to NICS. It could be a temporary notice or a permanent one. The only way that person could get the alert taken off would be for them to have their doctor to contact NICS or by a court order. That way there is an alert in a national database for everyone else to see when they are running backgrounds. The problem is the NRA and the privacy folks will jump all over this. They might agree that it's a good idea in part, but will make the argument that if we do it, then we will begin sliding down a slippery slope. |

Nope, no liberal media bias here. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the world’s oldest and largest membership organization of police executives, supported the Brady laws and regularly opposes liberalization of the states' concealed carry laws. But don't believe me, look em up on the internet. That the "experts" on crime oppose the liberalization of CC laws should be worth something. Granted, the IACP is just one organization (with international dimensions), but I live in a Red State and, on the state and local level, all of the police here strongly oppose the liberalization of such laws. |

I, personally can put no credence in what the police believe to be true, or not. They have their agenda.

Except that they are convertable to auto fire. Yes, it takes some knowledge and is illegal BUT for those who desire to do so, it can be done AND it can't be done with standard rifles or semi-auto pistols. |

Yes - it's called attempting to stay alive while protecting the citizenry. |
Re: Gun Restrictions and Your Rights
Well it looks like their agenda is to get more money coming to them from congerss and yes they want to get assult weapon bill back inforce. Did not have much time to read any more.

ALL semi-automatic weapons are convertible to auto fire. Most, if not all are quite complicated to convert, and the parts are next to impossible to get, if not impossible. Oh, by the way, It's a Federal offense "to possess" them. It's not what people generally think |

That would be nice if we could make their jobs easier. I don't think we should strive to keep them busy. |

Mostly, we are saddled with a justice system that has lost it's effectiveness, and not longer works. We do not need more laws. We need a system that works. Building more prisons is not working.......all that good

I would prefer thay have it easier as well SGG. that won't happen until the justice system changes. I doubt you'll find any cop that disagree's with that. |

No, it's not a job "like any other". I am not sure what your occupation is, but I guarrantee you that mine, those of my co-workers and the VAST majority of my friends and aquaintances does not require me to, on a regular basis, confront and/or restrain violent criminals. Further, generally speaking, body armor is NOT part of my normal business dress - even on business casual day. |

A friend of my dad's years ago did a home convert on a .45. WAY to wierd. Mostly the Ak-47's SKS, and AR-15 are the most common that I know, to do the conversion. When you get done, not much remains of the original weapon. It's class 3 dealer stuff, with Long........FEDERAL years if caught in any way participating in it. Not impossible, but very dicey. That's why (if you remember the California incident of a few years back) It's so rare to hear of actual Full Auto probs with the thugs Ona more personal note, I had the oppurtunity to shoot a couple of legal M-16's, and Thompson .45, etc a couple years ago. It's major fun |

I agree. I've fired M-16(A1)s and (A2)s and M-60s. But, I don't the fun of shooting them warrants their legalization. |

I think the system is fine, it's just the jokers running the system is what has really failed us. The law can be wielded in the hands of those who iterpret it. The prisons are becoming a business more and more by the day. The reasons for building today vs. twenty or thirty years ago are different. Today's prisons are being built with a definite return on investment in mind. |

I think so. But, no hot food. No caffeine drinks. no cold drinks, no AC. no luxories. At one point the Fed (under some BS law) said he had to give the prisoners access to some cable tv. he gave them "Disney". The guy is incredible. He made a statement in an Int a couple of years ago. "Our prison system has lost something. We do not want them coming back. We want them to remember THIS is a place that they do NOT want to visit ever again." It's not inhumane in any way. Just not plushy. It's the way our soldiers live when deployed The biggest problem with this story is......it's the only one. he's considered a criminal by many. THAT'S a crime |

Re: Gun Restrictions and Your Rights
That gives doctors alot of power.
Not really. They already have the power to commit you if they see fit and that's based on their observations only. You don't have to do anything violent to justify being committed. Many times people voluntarily commit themselves and once they are evaluated, a doctor can turn that into an involuntary commitment if they are concerned you may be a danger to yourself or others.
