I do blame insurance companies and the metnal health system for not committing him to a treatment program for a longer period of time.... Someone had to take responsibility for him. He was too sick to take care of himself. However, it's really a no win situation because once you get treatment and you feel ok the docs let you go and it's up to you to keep taking your meds..etc. Most don't, and then when they get sick again they are worse than before. Our Mental Health system in this country is pathetic. Insurance only covers up to a 5 day stay in a hospital unless the person has hurt someone or themselves.. and once they do go in the docs are forced to let these people out because of refusal of payment from insurance. It IS the systems fault.
I'm sorry but to blame the insurance Co is just plane BS as you have know idea what went on. Its just the easy thing to do to blame the insurance co. Now if you have information that they would not treat the guy or if he even had health ins. please give us the link. I'm in the Insurance business (I do not sell health Ins.) but I get tired of hearing these blanket statements about how its some how the insurance co, fault when you have no clue of the details. |
Re: Killer Mails Letter, Photos, Video to NBC
I said before that the media wasn't asking the right questions. Finally, FINALLY! someone is bringing this to light. This the exact same thing I have been harping on the last few days.

I agree 110%. It's really amazing how insurance companies are portrayed as the big bad guy all the time. I'm not trying to put anyone down here, but frankly I think in large part these blanket statements are due to ignorance and a misguided understanding of what insurance really is, and how it works. I get the idea that the general thought is that insurance companies should just always pay, pay, pay and pay. If that was the case we would simply not have insurance as we know it. |

Just my thoughts. peace with power |

How so? Fighting violence with violence is something society has done from the beginning of time, yet even in a 'modern day', supposedly intelligent society we still have the same problems. Doesn't seem to be really working very well in my opinion. |

at his age, it was all about the law. he was deemed an adult, capable of making his own decisions. so the only person that could have helped him was him.

Re: Killer Mails Letter, Photos, Video to NBC
Wow. I haven't perused this thread until just now. I think one thing that needs to be udnesrtood is that the problem doesn't lie within the medical and insurance in dustry as much as it does in our way of life in America. I know from first hand experience dealing with a family member that it is very very very difficult to get someone help unless they want it. They have to be an imminent threat to themselevs or others to be forcefully taken. He was at one piint but where the system breaks down is that as soon as a doctor, any doctor, decides "ok this guy has straightened out enough to make decision on his own" he can leave. Our interpretation of danger is just so conservative and I wouls say most of this is properly based on the foundation of freedom.
If we could quantify his isanity with a number I would bet there are millions of people in this country that are as insane or more and they didn't do this and almost never do. This was an isolated instance of a rare manifestation of insanity. It is no one's fault beyond the fault you can lay at his feet. |

I agree in theory but if I'm correct they admitted him because he was found to be a danger to himself and society. What happened to him then is what is in question. That also leads to the fact that this should have been given to the proper people who would have that on his record and making it so he could not purchase a gun. |

They make me sick. Then, CNN announced that every parent cancelled out of NBC interviews because they showed the video and were offended...then immediately SHOWED THE VIDEO AGAIN!!!! :angry-smi They're giving this sick scumbag everything he wanted, attention. Also, they're giving any other people with the same problems, sickness or just plain evil in them a role model that they never would've known to this extent without the selfish people in the media who will do anything for ratings, no matter how many lives they ruin. |

I can't stand how the media digs their claws into a story and then just shoves it down our throats until the next big story comes along. All that matters is people had their lives stolen from them. I could really give two shits about the killer and his story, his motivations, etc. F him. |
Re: Killer Mails Letter, Photos, Video to NBC
I hate how they had to have a ****ing name for it too. When I hear "Massacre at Virginia Tech" it just makes me cringe.
If you're going to cover it, why not just chill with titles like that. |
Re: Killer Mails Letter, Photos, Video to NBC
Is the media shoving this on us or is this what the American people want? Do we complain but then keep watching? Is it like waiting in trafic and complaining about rubber neckers at an accident then when we get our chance we slow down to look?
|
Re: Killer Mails Letter, Photos, Video to NBC
I'm not watching it, no matter how many times they try to show it.

We could probably start another thread about whether the media gives us what we want, or are they pushing what they think we want. Either way, I'm not rubber necking at this one. |
