Re: Redskins bring in Nine Undrafted Rookies.
If Hickman can make the team as a special teamer and (maybe) a third-down specialist, that would free us up to find a decent DT to take some of the double-team heat off of Griffin. I'm trying hard to be optimistic.

Re: Redskins bring in Nine Undrafted Rookies.
At least one of these nine will make the team. If Peterson signs, my money's on him. The article cited by Smoot said about 22% of the league's rosters started as undrafted rookies. Given the numbers, there are some good players out there - we just need to find'em (Hey they found A. Pierce awhile back - it could happen again).

Re: Redskins bring in Nine Undrafted Rookies.
Just thought of another OFA signing that made an impact- Willie Parker.
There really are some good players out there now. Some need a little time and work to be solid players but, if you could find em all, I bet you could build a damn fine team with nothing but OFA's. The biggest problem w/ OFA's is finding and developing them. Parker was hidden on his college's depth chart, same w/ Priest Holmes. Most OFA QB's need to get up to speed on the pro game. Same w/ O-linemen (I think you could build a pro-bowl line with OFA linemen BUT it would take about 3-5 years of development). Given the time and money invested in raw talent (i.e. draft picks), teams just don't have the resources (including cap space) or interest in taking 3-5 years to develop these OFA's - only to have them sign elsewhere when they become true contributors. It is one of the downsides to the salary cap era. |

Maybe a few out of the crew will make it. Joe has ALWAYS been good at finding good undrafted players. |

Re: Redskins bring in Nine Undrafted Rookies.
You all local to DC might remember Marcus Mason, he went to Georgetown Prep. iirc he finished as the all-time leading rusher in MD high school history. I saw him play once, he carried 4 times for 4 tds and then was taken out of the game. No clue why he didn't make it at Illinois, but he was quite impressive at Youngstown.

Oh I remember him. I went to G'town Prep and played football there. He was the best RB in our school's history. I never played with him b/c I graduated in '96, but he set like 8 Maryland rushing records. He was All-Met offensive player of the year 2002. Kid's a beast. But he got kicked off the team at Illinois for getting caught taking money from a booster. He was very impressive at Youngstown. |
Re: Redskins bring in Nine Undrafted Rookies.
The Redskins are supposed to have around 60 undrafted players at the Rookie Tryout Camp this weekend. They've got two hog-sized guard/centers coming in: Palauni Ma Sun, 6-6, 330, Oregon; and Kyle Young, 6-5, 354, Fresno State. Also another QB, Ryan Cubit, 6-2, 216, Western Michigan.
