Please that is lame. Is there anything in your calendar for that date at this moment? If not, then you are simply waiting to see if something better comes along. If there is nothing there now - then block the time out, go with 12th, and tell anybody else that comes along that unfortunately that time is now taken - IF that is your inclination. Yes, it is three weeks away - all the more reason to give the man the courtesy of a prompt decisive response so he can plan accordingly.

OK, so here is my answer. I have never met 12th in person. To accept an invitation to a horse race where I’ll be spending an entire day with him is a little too much to agree to at this time. However, I'm willing to meet at happy hour some time to get to know him first.
