From what I've heard regarding the case, the Virginia court where the trial will be taking place is good at moving things along quickly. So if he's going to be convicted, we should know about it quickly

We may know when he is going to trial quickly, but I don't think we'll know if he's going to be convicted until all the facts are heard in court...could be several months.

If everything in the indictment is proven true and he is convicted, put me down for a lifetime ban. As for right now, I'm still not sure what my opinion is. I think a lot of people here have good arguments for and against suspending right now and/or going the leave of absence route. I will say this though, from everything I've heard about the conduct policy, Goodell certainly has the right to suspend right now. And given that I really have no use for Vick (and that I'm just a mean-spirited person), I can't say I'd shed a tear if he suspended him before the case is resolved.

I think it's less about judge and jury and more so about him being the "CEO" of the league, and Vick being an employee of that league. If I was suspected of running a dogfighting ring, my guess is I'm not hanging around at work while awaiting trial

I would say he should be suspended for the season. And if he plea bargains or is convicted then it should be for life with a chance at reinstatement after a few years. And that would only be if he gets counseling and stays out of trouble. These charges are pretty horrendous if you ask me.

To me whether he is guilty of the charges in the indictment is somewhat irrelevant. He is surely guilty of letting them run a dubious dog kennel from his property. There is no disputing that. Allowing this to happen on his property is dumb and irresponsible AT THE VERY BEST. It reflects very poorly on the league and in the end that is what amtters when the decisions about suspension matter. The legal system will hopefully take care of punishment. Fo the NFL this is about doing what is right for the league. Letting him stike around and cause continual bad press reflects poorly on the league. A suspension is in order.

Doesn't the new NFL policy say that they don't have to be proven guilty yet to be suspended? Roger is going to drop the hammer because this has gotten so much publicity. Eight games at least.

probably true, but that is the difference between normal people and people in the spotlight. His job isn't contingent on being smart or having a good attitude. Its him being good at throwing a ball and running around. I say that because a company could argue that you made bad decisions to put you in this position, but for nfl athletes i don't feel that matters. No one cares that he is an idiot.

My second point is, i think it is wrong regardless. We don't know everything about this case so how can anyone punish someone that can be innocent. Do i think he is innocent? Hell no, but its the moral of the issue. Now, if this was to happen to us our bosses would know even less than we know about this case. We know as much as we do only because he is a star. Our bosses would know very little about the case than we know right now about vick and w/o all the info i think it is wrong to punish someone who may have done no wrong.


So i don't think he should be suspended. Now, do i want him to be suspended? I do, because i feel he had a strong part in this and i feel he will get off easier than I would if i had done it. I am playing judge and jury now but in the matter of what i want, it is for him to be suspended. It also makes my day more interesting but wanting someone to lose their job for my ammusement sounds really bad.

According to this article, Goodell and Blank seem poised to let him continue playing so long as he is able to with regard to court appointments until a verdict is issued once the judicial system has done it's thing. So looks like zero may not be far off, with what we know right now.

he should have to sit out the whole damn season if he is found guilty,or takes a plea.pacman got suspended and he's only guilty now of keeping some pretty shitty company and doing stupid things.to be fair,the league should suspend him a season.since he is probably the most well known nfl player in the world,i doubt that happens!

Yes it does but it also says something about repeat offenders which Vick is not. I said 0 days because he has not been found guilty of anything at this point. I do think he committed the crimes but until it goes to trial he still is cosidered innocent in the eye's of the law. If they did suspend him I think it would give the Falcons an easy out and what fun is that. I hope he shows up to training camp and plays this season because it will be fun to watch the media circus around the team, and the protesters that are bound to show up at some point.

It also states that there needs to be an established pattern of disruptive behavior in order for a suspension without conviction to take place. This is Vick's first offense.

All absurd arguments. Vick is under federal indictment for multiple serious felonies. Included in this indictment are gambling charges. The league has every right to suspend Vick prior to conviction, but may choose not to. It's the wrong choice. By not acting- the league is tacitly giving preferential treatment to Vick and tarnishing the NFL's image. The reason this is the case, is because they have the power and precedent to suspend vick. They don't have to use the same criteria a courtroom does for an employee. And, ask yourself... would you invite a person charged with a violent felony to your home or work? Would you be "rushing to judgement" if you said no- because a court of law hasn't determined if he's been proven guilty? C'mon!

As far as, Duke goes. PLEASE! Just because there has been one injustice doesn't mean you have to throw out the entire system. And, in fact, there wasn't an injustice because the Duke players were proven innocent and let off in the end. The criminal Lawyer was punished. Did the players suffer in public opinion? YES! Was it wrong for the public to judge these guys negativley? NO! It was common sense based on experience. And, with the Duke case, I think there were many people besides myself who were more shocked that the case went as far as it did.

If the NFL decides it should spot light an accused felon as one of their "stars", so be it. I just hope the fans and more importantly the sponsers, show gumption enough to make the so called "get tough" commish suffer.[/QUOTE]

Based on how the media incorrectly convicted him of drug possession in the airport, and the only information I have is second hand via the media - I'm going to hold judgement until the Government and defense have a chance to present their arguments.

If he is guilty then throw the book at him. If the Govt can only come up with circumstantial evidence, I hope Mr. Vick starts sueing some folks who are very quick to write gossip without real evidence.

If the league doesn't suspend him, the Falcons should just bench him. There has to be a few guys on the team who like dogs and can you imagine having to look at Vick in the huddle and wanting to protect him and take orders from someone you want to beat into the ground? He'd be horrible for team chemistry, he'd be a distraction and the fans are going to boo and say some nasty things every game. Plus, is he missed practices for legal meetings or court dates, he's worthless.

It would be better for the team to just let someone else take his place in the huddle.

I did vote for the season, because this isn't his first transgression. Either way, the league or the teams decision...he should not see the field this year.

ESPN (sportscenter I believe) yesterday had a guy that wanted his identity kept under wraps, saying that Vick is a BIG player in the dog fighting games. He has loads of cash, and brings very big dogs. If Vick was innocent, that wouldn't have happened.

This is nothing like the Duke case.

In the Duke case, they were being accused of something without any legitimate evidence and the prosecutor was trying to pump up his legal resume so he can win an election.

In this case, there is solid evidence that this DID happen on his property and many witnesses that say he was directly involved in it. Plus, this case involves killing living creatures. I've heard that if you see the property, there is NO doubt what went on there.

While i voted for 16 games, i have reservations.

First, the players union has only signed on to the new conduct policy based on the commissioner being limited to punishing players who have [I]multiple [/I]charges pending. Vick doesn't. His charges are all related to this one problem.

The Vick boys sure have not made their momma proud. The things that were done to these animals are barbaric. The evolution of sadistic, murderous criminals normally stops by animal cruelty on the way to murder.

I couldn't care less if Vick didn't know what was happening on [B]his[/B] property. Being stupid is not a defense. The simple fact that this happened on his property (and I think there is enough evidence of that) makes him guilty in my mind.

I said eight games, but I am leaning towards the entire season.

An indictment is not a guilty verdict. Until he is found guilty he should be allowed to play. If he is found guilty, I would imagine playing would be the least of his worries.

What past record? Please detail all of his previous legal transgressions.

I don't want to come off as a Vick apologist but the whole 'ban him for the season, the team should suspend/bench him' before anything has been heard in court is a bit over the top. The accusations in the indictment are heinous, I had dogs for years and if anyone did what he's accused of I want them hung by their balls and beaten with baseball bats. But for right now, that's all they are, [B][I][U]accusations.[/U][/I][/B]

There is zero correlation to PacMan, Henry, Tank or anyone else. They all had repeated arrests, pleas and numerous troubles with the law. Vick was never arrested, charged or convicted in the Miami airport incident. He was a model citizen (as far as any of us knew) on and off the field before his middle finger incident late last year.

I wonder if some people are confusing Marcus Vick's previous trouble and are using guilt by name association to think he's been in the news negatively for a long time.

If he's guilty his suspension will be a vacation compared to his sentence. I still think he'll plead it out after the season, spend 4-8 months in jail and be suspended the 1st 8 games of '08.

I would say 4 games, but as a first time offender of the league's discipline policy, Goodell may wait until after the trial to do anything. If guilty of the charges, it would not sit well that Vick lied right to the Commish's face at the draft in April.

9 times out of 10 the rumors are on to something. When you have someone that says damning evidence like that, you shouldn't ignore it.

LOL...No, to paraphrase what I've been saying all along, the punishment should fit the crime. If he hasn't been convicted of a crime yet and he doesn't have a track record of run-ins with the law (not talking about a TSA screener jumping the gun over a suspicious looking water bottle), I don't see the league suspending him. That doesn't mean the team won't make the decision (mutually of course) for him to sit out while this runs it's course in order to limit distractions for the betterment of the team. If he's found guilty whenever this goes to trial, I hope they throw the book at him, and as many others have said on here already, a football suspension will be the least of his worries.

Understandable, and I agree with you.
He will be found guilty. I doubt they would spend this much time and effort going after a dead end.
