Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
If its a choice in Atl between MB or DC than its a no brainer, they should go after MB. He is a solid back up and can still play a bit. DC is washed up. I doubt Gibbs will let MB go but anything is possible.
I also think that Harrington will be fine in Atl. His career is judged by what he did in Det and lets face it, who has ever been successful in Det. |
Can anyone remember the last time we had a 300 yard passing game? Was it Patrick Ramsey?
I wish I could take credit for "remembering" but in responding to Hess I was digging for some stats...the last 300+ yard passing game was the Jags on 10/01/2006. 329 yards. Prior to that it was Den & KC in Oct of 2005. 322 & 331 yds. |

And of course, Denver and KC were both losses. Which goes to that passing yards doesn't always equal wins. We'd be wise to remember that this year when Campbell has some under 200 yards passing games while Betts and Portis churn out the yardage on the ground and lead us to wins |

MB has had four 300 yard games here. |

I love it. haha. actual facts.

I want him out of here!

Agreed totally. Another interesting bit of statistical info...other than the Houston and Jags games last year, with Brunell at QB we went over 100 yds rushing only once (Philly). Once JC came in defenses needed to respect his arm and couldn't stack the box, we rushed for over 100 yds in 5 out of 7 games. |
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
So all of you "I want him out" screamers are comfortable with Todd Collins and Jordan Palmer if they have to fill in to save the season?
This would be a great idea for the Falcons and a HORRIBLE one for us. Having an experienced backup is important. |
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
Bramlet is higher on the depth chart than Palmer. And no, i want to keep Mark.

Ooooooh... So do we want a QB who hasn't started a game since 1997 and has 17 career TDs with 19 career INTs or an unemployed NFL Europa player or a 6th-Round rookie from the big football powehouse UTEP to take over for Campbell if something happens? :cheeky-sm |

Yeah, Garcia did GREAT for them. |
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
I wouldn't lump Mark Brunell and Jeff Garcia in the same pile.

It probably was but Gibbs is so in love with Brunell that he benched the guy for his man. If he didn't bench Ramsey he would be here now as our starter but instead Gibbs crushed the guys igo and ruined him as a QB. |

Why? Garcia was washed up (or so everyone thought) before he got a shot. He was smart and experienced though, just like MB. |

Re: What!!!?
Scary! Funny how when someone else wants him, we then see how much we NEED him!!!!
Ha Ha!!! Very true! I've never been a Bruell basher, but there are plenty on this forum. I think it would be ridiculous to trade him unless we were offered the world in return. Simply no need to trade your best qualified veteran backup, a proven quarterback, when you have an umproven, essentially nothing more than a rookie quarterback as your starter in Jason Campbell. If JC struggles mightily or gets hurt, Mark Brunell is the only chance this team has to go anywhere. |

Wow - Can I have some of the happy juice your drinking. Why did I know that any debate about Brunell would inevitably lead to the one, the only twice cut, couldn't beat out a rookie and candy-armed QB, back-up QB for Denver (who, nonetheless, is still a great guy)? |

If Brunell becomes the only chance this team has to go anywhere at any point in this season, I'm divorcing myself from the Washington Redskins. All Brunell has ever proven in Washington is that if every other part of the team is performing perfectly, he can be relied on to not eff if up, and that was two seasons ago. |

Who else do you expect to pick the slack if JC gets hurt? Collins? Bramlet? Palmer? |

I guess it depends on your personal preference. Im my mind it's just as bad or worse to give up(throw it away on 4th down, take a sack, etc.) when you're losing by two scores as it is to turn the ball over while trying to make a play, so I'd prefer one of the young guns. My point is, the slack won't be picked up at all if Campbell goes down. Brunell may be able to fill in for a week, but if the season hangs in the balance, and Brunell is the savior, we're screwed. |

Well we've already stated in several posts that Ramsey in fact wasn't the last Redskins QB to throw for 300 yards so... |

Maybe Brunell for Antwaan Lake?

Assuming that, is there any reason to assume that the controlled passing game of last year that relied on the skill players to be skilled would not work this season? Giving up is not really a fault of Brunell. Brunell's main fault is that he is a horribly god awful passer under pressure. Solution: keep Brunell from getting pressured. This assumption that old guys don't care about winning and losing is not only absured by conventional methods, but also statistically incorrect. My personal preference would be the best guy for the job, and assuming that Bramlet is no better than a replacement level NFL QB, it's Brunell in a landslide. |

How did the Saints get in the mix? Last time I checked they have a pretty damn good QB, and aren't shopping for a backup? This DE, Lake. What are you talking about on this one? Mark for Lake makes NO sense? Please explain your thinking on this move? |

Hmmmm it was not Gibbs that ruined Patrick, think back a little further.. Does Spurrier come to mind? that did it for him getting sacked , hit or rushed everytime with no protection......not Gibbs. OH and Patrick is lighting it up now isn't he? |
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
What about John Abraham for MB straight up.
I love it. |
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
I don't see where anyone "ruined" Ramsey, maybe he just isn't that good after all?
He took a heck of a beating at Tulane too, so I really don't fault Spurrier that much. |
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
Ramsey was just downhill from day one. I cant remember but didnt he hold out. He just wasnt accurate, had a nice arm but his main problem was that he tried to force too many things, didnt relax and get comfortable in the pocket. His downfall was imminent from his first starting day.
|
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
The rap I heard on Ramsey was that he is none too bright. Same as Shuler, who reportedly struggled to learn Norv Turner's system.
|
Re: What!!!? Brunell to the Falcons?
to me Ramsey just plain sucked. he just wasnt an NFL starting QB.

I can't say I ever heard that for Ramsey quite honestly. I can vouch first hand that Shuler (and Frerotte) both struggled mightily to learn Norv's system. Norv insisted that if Aikman could figure the system out, why should he have to "dumb it down" for Shuler and Frerotte. But that's all in the past |
