Re: Game Coverage Sucks
worst commentated game ever. every other word they said was "mcnabb". ridiculous. they showed them in the booth so much rather than show the game, they talked about basketball...very poor commentating.

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I can't believe they dropped Theisman for that coverage, Kornheiser and Jaws are not too good in my opinion.
|
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Awful. Plain awful. Couldn't believe the amount of screen time given to larry, moe and curly. Inane, repetitive, unfunny, non-informative clap trap. They should all study the greatest game commentator in ANY sport: Vin Scully.

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Nice to know I wasn't alone in hating on the "booth talent". Monday night football has been dying for some time now and this is one of the biggest reasons.
They want to draw in non football fans. They try to do all this human interest story crap and not cover the game. I heard more about Reids's crack head sons than I did about The Skin's D. And what was with all the Pat's talk; yes it was a huge story, last week. If I wanted to hear Tony K. talk about how he felt about the fine and this type of cheating in general, I WOULD WATCH PTI!!! It was like they didn't even know there was a game being played. I will bet any one here that the 3 of them said the name of a Pats player or coach more times than the name of a Skins player or coach. There was 20-30 total hrs of NFL television coverage yesterday on 5 or more different channels, I think if we wanted to hear about the Pats we would gotten our fill yesterday. |

Thats becuase you cant make one, but your mind is free and you are thinking the same thing. DOnt you have like an anonymous suggestion box at ESPN that you can just slip a littl epiece of paper in while no ones watch that says, "Comentators sucked ass monday night" |

Well look, we'll have our Tuesday morning meeting tomorrow and discuss all the hate (as we always do). And there are a lot of things that need work. On the other hand, there is a lot that contractually has to be done and a lot that is done very well. But, I've learned that most don't care to hear that. They don't want to hear about the business of it all, or the bigger picture. They just want to complain. That's cool, but to that I have "no comment" |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
My brother and I tried to goto Sonny and Sam on Redskins radio, but the audio was like 10 secs ahead of ESPN's video. So we chose matching crappy commentary. 2-0 is huge. Beating the Eagles at home is HUGER! Giants 0-2 at home this week BIG TIME! Everyone at Fed Ex step it up and make some noise!!! GO SKINS!!!

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Worst coverage of all-time. My wife was yelling at the TV because it was so bad and she wanted some football talk (I love her :)). Kornheiser is the absolute worst, Tirico doesn't keep things on track, Jaws is alright but they never let the guy talk football. Barkley just made things worse and basically ruined the whole third quarter plus they kept showing shots of those four idiots sitting in the booth rather than actually talking about or showing anything happening on the field. Literally the worst NFL coverage I've ever seen.
Oh, and then there was Barkley who just restated the same three points for 45 minutes, unbearable! Plus the announcers just kept repeated the same hackneyed soundbites on the Redskins and how they bring in high-priced players, etc. etc. like they have not looked at anything the Skins have done this offseason and have nothing relevant to say about what was happening in the game. I could go on forever! NFLN is at least giving the Skins some love and Adam Schefter and TD actually pointed out the obvious point that all the 'experts' just look at what happened last year rather than remembering that the Skins were 10-6 in 2005. Oh, and can we get some info on the Randy Thomas injury during the telecast? Geez!
I think you give the coverage too much credit. It was worse than all that. I think it was one of the worse shows of any kind that I've ever seen. The only was they could have made it worse would have been to invite Donald Trump to the booth to talk about himself during live action. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Hi
I liked Barkley and I thought he told us how the Philly fans don't get it. I was surprised how much of the game I missed by the drivel and drool coming out of the booth by Kornheiser and Tirico. I was ready for Charles to take out a deck of cards and take all of their money. I loved the come back by Charles when Tirico said "The Eagles should have won last week". Barkley went on and on about how last week doesn't count. I lost 1 or 2 plays in the game with bad camera angles and green faces. MNF has come down to Kornheiser/Jaws and Tirico. I thought ESPN was smarter. Get over it the Redskins won. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
1) No one in that booth was a DC guy. Yes, Kornheiser has been around DC for a long time and still works here for the post. But Kornheiser is from Long Island, New York. So he's probably a Jets fan at heart, he just doesn't wear it on his sleeve like many other announcers.
People take Charles Barkley too serious. He'll throw out a ton of crazy shit, and half of it is typically pretty funny. Comparing Donovan McNabb to Peyton Manning is ridiculous, but still. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I've accepted that celebs are going to show up in the booth. It's a marketing concern that offsets the hundreds of millions the networks are paying. Barkley was there for far too long, and it detracted from the game, though.
Get on TV, sell what you're selling. Get off TV. It's pretty simple. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I think the team in the booth is fine. Tirico shouldn't have to be a director - he's a play-by-play guy. Kornheiser goes off topic, but he's good when he's on, and he doesn't talk over action (when there isn't a guest in the booth). Jaws is knowlegdable and doesn't feel the need to be 100% correct - he listens to his boothmates (something Joey T didn't seem to do).
|
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
glad that I'm not alone in being annoyed by a lack of coverage on the game. I like Barkley & he was funny, but he said the same thing about 3 different ways. Maybe they had a hard time getting him to leave the booth.
I think they do the celeb thing for people that watch the games but aren't big fans of either team. Never much cared for it even if it's not the skins playing. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
As bad as the Eagle knob polishing was, Kornheiser has no credibility as a commentator when he talks about being a Redskins fan. What's the problem with impartiality? And MY GOD, could they fit any more commercials in there?

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Yep, ESPN is all over Philly's nutz of course.
Everyone except Tom Jackson picked the Eagles. A lot of eggs on the face at ESPN tonight. :)
I saw that - that is a beautiful thing! I wouldn't mind the coverage if they would just shut up when the game is being played and actually show the game instead of the idiots in the box. There was one point where they were jabbering away and showing the booth, and after they missed an entire play Tirico goes "Oh, and Washington called a timeout, too". They really dropped the ball on that one. Of course, I guess they figured it was going to be a pretty bad game. Still, they get paid to do this - do it right! |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
AGREE 100%!!! Im not one to talk about the skins getting respect, i could care less as long as we win, but there were 2 teams playing last nite. All they talked about was the falling out of McNabb and how "HE" was losing the game. Given he wasnt accurate but we also came up with some big hits that they failed to mention that removed the ball from the reciever. It drove me CRAZY how looooooong they had Barkely on. I thought i was watching the tonight show dude

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I love to listen to Charles Barkley b/c usually he is spot on and he tell's it like it is, not caring for the consequences however....
I was going to start this thread before i saw it had already been posted. The ESPN coverage was horrible. How about talking about what's on the field? They spent so much time talking about Andy Reid, the Philly fans, etc. We missed about a quarter of football. Some things i just don't think we need to know about, like Reid's kids getting in trouble. No replay on the excellent ST hit. They barely mentioned that Smoot was out. They barely mentioned who started in his place. It's not Barkley's fault they brought him in the booth and asked him to talk. Let's focus on the game. I don't know about anyone else but i counted two times when announcers didn't know Jason's last name (pregame). Come on... |

In addition, Jaws mispronounced a Redskin player, can't remember who, but I think he called him Randy or something. Absolutely dreadful coverage. Loved the HD broadcast though. Being in the ATL I don't always get HD for Skin's games. Apparently the NFL Ticket doesn't provide that unless it's nationally broadcast or something. Anyway, I would have preferred listening to Knarles Barkley over Charles Barkley. Who the f*** cares about hearing him go on and on about basketball, or even baseball at one point. Please ESPN, for all the good you do, stop the insanity! |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
ESPN was a total philly homer broadcast. I can't believe they did not replay ST's hit in the first quarter. Yet they replayed every one of McChunky soups incomplete passes.
Unbelievable. |

yeah, Tirico called our fullback Randy Sellers. Which was nice. Can't blame him though, who could think straight with that cacophony known as Kornheiser in the booth with him? |

It does make you appreciate Madden and Michaels. They actually talk football.
And yes, say what you want about Joe T. but he actually analyzes the game. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
That did it for me and MNF. If I wanted to watch the view, I'd watch the damn view. Kornholer sucks...fire all of them.

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Speaking about the Patriots as long as they did was absurd considering any topics on that situation were exhausted on the previous night's national broadcast on Sunday Night Football, when they were featured against the Chargers.
The two teams playing on Monday Night should get the focus, since some of them will have only one game in the national spotlight anyway. Can't they save that editorial crap for halftime when we are are waist deep in the fridge. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Without question the worst coverage I've ever been exposed to.
I know I'm just repeating what has already been said, but they had too much Barkely, too much Reid, and too much Philly this and Philly that. The whole Donovan desrves better campaign was sickening! Then they jumped to Belichick and cheating! Really, who cares? Balance, guys, balance!! They never talked up or barely acknowledged, for that matter, how well the Redskins were playing defensively. And if they were going to delve into Reid's personal life, they could have easily brought up Gibbs' grandson who has been ill too. Or some of the fresh blood the Skins added during the off season. Also, why must I suffer through a pre-game video of how bad ass Brian Dawkins is and his comic book selection, but nothing about Sean Taylor or Landry? Taylor laid some wood last night, and they pan the camera to Barkley's fat ass! I was as pissed as one could get! A total, complete, and utter fiasco. As a Redskins fan, I felt down right disrespected by the crap they pulled last night. |

Gotta have commercials. They pay the bills |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
the only thing missing from last night's "broadcast" was some bonus Yankees/Redsox coverage. I'm surprised they didn't break away from MNF to show a highlight of a Jorge Posada single to right.

QUOTE] Even so, last he bragged, he held the copyright for The Bandwagon. He did, however, give a nod to Gibbs, saying he's DC's Rocky Balboa. Not the best analogy, but it sounded better last night after two beers. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
It's ironic how they were discussing cheating in the league for about 15 minutes during the broadcast while simultaneously cheating the Skins out of national attention during their only Monday Night Football game this year.
"By the way, the Redskins just called a timeout" - Mike Tirico, with camera panned to the broadcaster's booth. Oh, thanks a lot man! I much rather hear you verbally describe a timeout during gameplay than actually seeing it for myself. How about this?...you get your boring asses off my screen and start filming what I tuned in to see! |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Speaking of the Sean Taylor hit that was not given any attention, anyone know where to find a clip of that on the internet?
|
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Most of the time that I hear people complain about the announcers I just kind of blow it off as I'm to busy watching the game to give them any attention. Last night was a different story as the game seemed to be the side show to what the announcers were doing.

If you have direct TV, you also need to purchase the Superfan package. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
In a twisted sort of way, I liked the coverage.
I like the fact that all the so called experts picked the Eagles to win (Tom Jackson was the only one that had the guts to pick the Skins). I like the fact that the entire nation picked the Eagles to win in a National wide poll. I like the fact that all the pre-game hype was pumping up the Eagles to be the best team in the NFC East and what has happened to the NFC East, it used to be one of the best conferences in the NFL, bullcrap. I like the fact how they pumped up Brian Dawkins to be the X-man Wolverine. I loved it when Mike Sellers trucked him and Todd Yoder took him out. I especially liked how during the postgame the analysts made excuses for the Eagles; McNabb injury caused him to be ineffective, playing in Philly is tough, the Eagles passed too much, they should have run Westbrook more... ...whay...whay...whay...whay Cry Me A River!!! |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
ESPN was a total philly homer broadcast. I can't believe they did not replay ST's hit in the first quarter. Yet they replayed every one of McChunky soups incomplete passes.
Unbelievable.
I noticed that too. They missed a lot of replays while they were rambling on about senseless crap too. Everyone already knows Philly fans are jerks, there's no reason to hold a quarter-long conversation about it and cause us to miss plays. It was one of the worst-commentated games I've ever watched, BUT...it was a great game on the field. :) |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Also, did anyone see the intro to the game with McNabb standing still and pushing off about 10 Redskins with stiffarms and then throwing the ball...all while whining about how much he wants to play good?
That was ridiculous. After it was over I was just staring at the TV saying, "WHAT WAS THAT?" |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
SmootSmack, does ESPN get all this? Do they honestly listen to the criticism? Is there a way we can voice our opinions to them? What is the reason for having guests in the booth for a quarter talking about everything BUT football? No other network has a guest line up like that!
Personally, I thought the old Sunday night crew of Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire and Joe Thiesmann was fine. |
