Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
This is a very interesting game....I think that the Lions game may have brought about a "Swagger" in this team that could carry on for the entire season (not saying we'll win every game, but we might have learned how to go out and striaght up win games)....Now I think this game from a matchup standpoint goes right into our game plan...especially defensivley. We want to force them to pass, they wont be able to run that well on us...The key to me is the defensive line and how they play against the Packer Offensive line. The Packers are no Lions, and it will be much tougher than it was last week...If we can get the pressure on Favre to force him to make bad decisions, than I think we win the game....
On offense, if we can establish any sort of running game/ball control, I think we will be in good shape. The Bears put up 27 on this defense, and I think our offense is much better than theirs.... I'll say Skins 24 Packers 20, but who knows. Lambeau is never an easy place to play, but I think this could be a statement type game for us. |

Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
For some reason, the score 21-14 keeps kicking around in my head. So there you have it. Skins score the winning touchdown with a deep pass to, of all people, Brandon Lloyd, with 2:28 remaining in the 4th quarter.
Rocky Mac picks Favre late to seal the deal. |

Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
So your telling me the Patriots-Cowboys game isn't the only NFL Contest this weekend? Wow, I'm not sick of hearing about that one already.
Green Bay scores first, Redskins down 10-7 at the half. Skins score on the first possession of the 2nd on a field goal to tie. Jason hits Santana over the top for a 65 yard TD to end the third quarter. Green Bay hits a field goal in the fourth. Favre attempts to mount a comeback at the end but falls short when Fred Smoot picks off an ill advised throw intended for James Jones. Skins win 17-13, Jason goes for 220 and a TD but spreads the ball around and doesn't make mistakes, Portis gets 90 and a score, Betts finally contributes with 60 on the ground. Skins grind it out for the most part, defense holds strong, leave Green Bay with a hard fought victory. |
Does anyone on this site think we might actually lose this game?
Like I said in my prior prediction I think GB will win because they lost last week and are at home. I would not be surprised to see the Skins win but I think when they need to score fast at the end of the game to win, confusion and delay by the coaches will once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. If the Skins were at home I'd have them winning no problem but I think they are still a little too inexperienced to win this one on the road. |
Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
This is going to be a tough game. It will be the loudest AWAY game we have played in some time. I think the D will play well, but you can only contain Favre so much and he will get his shots.
Skins must run the ball well with CP/Betts/Sellers to keep the stingy Green Bay defense off of Campbell. Skins 19 (4 fg's and a late CP TD to seal it) Pack 12 (4 Fg's) |

Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
I'll give you the low down from a packer fan perspective.
The biggest part of the game is going to be turnovers. Farve has been good this year and has only really had one bad INT (to Urlacher), but if he gets behind he starts to just chuck it anywhere. However, I am hoping that the packers will start off with some conservative passes, and run the ball almost a 50% ratio. This will most definatly change if there is even the slightest sign of unsuccess. Where I hypothesize the game will be won is in the Packer D getting some ever turnovers. I am looking for 2INTs, and at least one sack from Arron Kampman or KGB resulting in a fumble (they have been getting very close and seem due). I feel that success for the Redskins will only come from running the ball, or from some sort of fluke Redskin TDs (Kick/Punt TDs, fumbles, etc.) that will put them in the lead early and cause Farve to get risky. It is true that the packers have been horrible covering TEs, but you gotta figure they will catch on sometime and it maybe this week with a chance of both Moss and Randel el being out. What redskin fans want to be afraid of is: Lambeau Field, Packer D, and watch out for Vernand Morency (He is coming of an injury and is about to peak). There is alot of emotion in Lambeau and this is a huge game, because there is a Bye week after this and the Pack don't want to go into that with 2 losses. I am afraid of Clinton Portis and Betts breaking big plays, I truly feel Campbell is due for a bad week. But either way good luck and congrads on a good record. |
Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
Yeah, Santana's playing. And Jason Campbell has a 7.7 yds/pass attempt. Brett has a 7.3. We have a running game, you don't. And we've got the 3rd toughest defense in the league based on yardage.
We have given up 4 touchdowns this season, lowest in the league. The Packers have given up 9. Your argument will be that we havent played anyone. I retort, everyone is discounting how explosive Detroits offense is now. they werent last week before we crushed them. |

I've been patrolling, as opposed to trolling, a Packers fan website and noticed that many Packers fans are underrating our team. I don't think that we will win only if we score on some "fluke" play. Our defense is straight up nasty (ranked 3rd v. Packers' 17th ranked D). Our offense can be pretty explosive, with weapons like Cooley, Moss, Randle El, Portis, and Betts. I think this will be a close game, but I can't see your offense scoring more than 21 points and I see our offense posting at least 17 points. In the end, I give the nod to the Skins by at least a FG. In any event, cheers to a good, injury-free game. |
Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
I am excited for this game. Either way, it'll solidify one of us near the top of the NFC. I wish you the worst of all luck of course.

Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
For me, the x-factor is playing in Green Bay. Green Bay hasn't seen a pass defense like our's and like PackerBacker said, if Favre gets one-dimensional, we'll take this one. If they can mix it up, they'll have quite a shot.
Basically if we can play pass the whole game like last week, I think we steal this one. |

The Packers best hope is to have a 50/50 ratio, but they don't have much of a history of that this year. Morency is also a concern, but when RBs that have limited career touches (152 rushes in three seasons) have durability issues, I find it difficult to see a game-carrying performance out of them. Hopefully, we can keep him from having game-changing runs. I agree with you that Redskins turnovers will be key - I just think that we will be working all week to limit them, since that was our weakest point last game. Again, thanks for being a reasonable visitor, and welcome. |

Re: Redskins vs. Packers predictions
from ESPN Insider...
Why To Watch Both the Redskins and Packers are one-loss teams playing very good football. That's why to watch! The Redskins are playing well in all phases of the game and seem to be improving each week. Young Redskins QB Jason Campbell has demonstrated that he can run the offense and make the right decisions to put Washington in a position to win games. The offensive play calling in Washington has been on point the last few weeks and offensive coordinator Al Saunders has opposing defenses playing on their heels. The Redskins defense is also playing at a high level and did so last weekend taking away the dangerous Detroit passing attack. The Pack is back and the Green Bay offense is playing like it did a few years ago when QB Brett Favre won Super Bowl XXXI. It's not only Green Bay's offense that is playing well, the defense which has talented players all over the field. This is a matchup between two top teams, which are on track to play in the postseason. This game will be a test on how well each team can perform against a very good opponent. When the Redskins have the ball Rushing: Washington is very capable of running the ball using all three of its running backs. RB Clinton Portis is the main runner who provides a solid combination of breakaway speed and power. FB Mike Sellers is utilized in short-yardage situations both in blocking for Portis and in carrying the football. With the presence of offensive line coach Joe Bugle, the Redskins are committed to putting the ball on the ground and running all types of schemes like zone, gap, and man plays against the Green Bay defensive front seven. The Packers front seven have been stingy against the run all season with the help of defensive tackles Johnny Jolly and Ryan Pickett. Pickett and Jolly penetrate with power and also adjust on the run well. It helps that they have a punishing group of linebackers behind them like ILB Nick Barnett and A.J. Hawk who are active from sideline to sideline. Washington's run game has to be more patient in getting things going this week than in previous weeks. The initial gains may not be big for the Redskins right away, but they have the capability to gash the Packers if they are persistent. Passing: Campbell is playing very well so far this season and he needs to stay consistent at a high level against the Packers' secondary. One of Campbell's favorite receivers, Antwaan Randle El, left the game last weekend with a leg injury and his status is not known yet for the Green Bay game. Randle El provides the Redskins' offense with exceptional quickness and burst, which translates to big plays. Randle El also stretches the field leaving TE Chris Cooley and Sellers to gain yards underneath the secondary. Campbell has really come on this season and gets more comfortable each week with Saunders' offense. The Packers have their work cut out for them when they face Campbell and the Redskins' receiving corps. Green Bay corners Charles Woodson and Al Harris are having a good season and provide the Packers' defense with the ability to play man coverage. They are accompanied by safeties Atari Bigby and Nick Collins who have to do a better job of defending the deep part of the field against the tight end seam routes, which they didn't do well against the Bears last week. When the Packers have the ball Rushing: In order for the Packers to have success against the Washington run defense, RB DeShawn Wynn has to get more carries then he did against the Bears and Green Bay has to be committed to running the ball. Between Wynn and RB Vernand Morency, the Packers averaged more than 5 yards per carry against Chicago on only 22 carries. If the Packers give more carries to their backs, they can give Washington a dose of their own medicine and control the clock all day. For the Redskins to stop the Green Bay run game, DT Cornelius Griffin and the defensive line have to get penetration against the Packers' offensive line and create different levels on blockers so that ILB London Fletcher and the rest of the Redskins' linebackers can attack the open gaps and make plays behind or at the line of scrimmage. Washington DE Andre Carter is playing well and should also be a major contributor against Green Bay's run game. Passing: If Favre can keep the interceptions to a minimum, or better yet eliminate them, the Packers pass offense will gain yards and put points on the board. That isn't an easy task because they are matched up against a solid Washington secondary that kept Detroit's passing attack at bay all day last weekend. The Packers' offensive line will have their hands full with the Washington pass rush and pressures called by defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. The Packers may have to keep either TE Donald Lee or FB Korey Hall in as an extra blocker this Sunday to give Favre enough time to complete the deep throws. The Redskins secondary with Shawn Springs, LaRon Landry, Sean Taylor, and Carlos Rogers along with Fred Smoot are dangerous and athletic. Each one of those guys, if given the opportunity, can take one back to the house. You can bet that Washington defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will have those guys ready to play against Favre and also bet that he shows them a stat about how many games the Packers win when Favre throws more than two interceptions. Special Teams Field position will be a huge key to winning this game and it will be up to the coverage units of both teams to help the defense have as much green behind them as possible. Green Bay's special teams have already made a drastic improvement from last year and rookie kicker Mason Crosby is getting adjusted well to the NFL kicking game. Green Bay punt returner Charles Woodson had a costly turnover against the Bears last weekend and he has to hold on to the ball against Washington in order for the Packers to keep the momentum. Opposing punt returner Randle El also had ball security issues of his own. These are two dynamic returners who can change the outcome of a game if they are healthy and can hold on to the ball. |
