Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
The Tampa Bay game right after Thanksgiving might be the deciding game for us getting the last wildcard. The O-line play must improve for the offense to hold up their end - does anyone know whether Heyer might be available soon?
|
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
i say yes and barely like was mentioned in the posts b4 me...I do however think the severe ass stompin we took at the hands of the patriots will give us a new breath of determination...10-6 we need to beat up some teams along the way and a little help from others will be appreciated
|
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
Dammit, I only thought about this for two or three minutes before confusion set in.
Just look at our division. It's real hard for me to see us winning either of the Dallas games, we just don't have enough offense (not near enough really). The Gmen are playing some of the best ball in the NFC w/ two of the nastiest d-ends in the game and a surprisingly resurgent Eli (this really pisses me off because I basically expected Campbell to do what Eli has done). And finally, the Eagles have long been a second-half-of-the-season team. We could easily go though the '07 season w/ just one division win, which gives us another four losses at least, which means we could still be 9-7, which means we could still be a wild card contender. Bottom line: the entire NFC is almost as embarassing as our loss to the Patriots on Sunday (the two things are also similar because every other friggin person I know is talking about them). |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
I chose to be a weenie because I just like to be different. I honestly do not mind going on the record.
We will Make the Playoffs by sweeping Dallas and Philly, and beating NY. We will be second in the Division because Dallas only loses to us twice and NE. we manage to lose one more game, but not within the division. The Giants make the Playoffs as well. And even though The NFC east sends 3 teams to the Playoffs again we still get no props for being the toughest division in the NFL from the rest of the league. |

Only if we can beat Dallas at least once and win the rest of the NFC games on the schedule

They will make the playoffs, if we win the next two games...

Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
im say no? this is crazy, a LB for the pats has 2 more TD's than our receiving core, what we go do, score 6 and win through out....

Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
Yes.
We'll end up 10-6 if our OL can hold on. I'm very disapointed in the last 2 weeks. Cards game shoulda lost and Pats we NEVER had a chance. Not the Redskins I know. Question is do I know the Redskins? Do they? I wanna believe. I gotta believe. Tired of believing when my team gets beat 52-7. Say it's 1 game, it's a fluke or the Patriots are just that good. I say BOLOGNA! We aren't a championship caliber team. Hate to admit it, but how do we have a chance in the post season when none of our WR's have TDs, the right side of OL is like a labor pool curb and we've failed to close in the 4th Q in every game except the Lions and Eagles games. Hope I'm wrong. I think we'll get a wildcard and perhaps get to NFC Championship. I will leave out the rest... We need to not leave the defense on the field and get extended, clock milking drives together. We've got to or else we're finished. Every week I think the coaches have to know all this right? Right? |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
I used to think yes but now I am a no. I dont see the Skins ever getting ahead of Dallas or NYG in the division and I dont think they will be better than 9-6 and I'm not sure that can get them the other wild card.

Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
After this weekend I'll have a better indication, but much like the loss of Springs in 2006, the loss of Rogers is going to hurt more than I think anyone would imagine.
As of RIGHT NOW, I say "no". I say we end the season at 8-8 losing one or two more of our classic let-down games (maybe against Buffalo, the Bears or the Vikings). Sure, the Jets aren't exactly a passing juggernaut, but I want to see how we'll fair against their passing attack before making any judgments. If I don't see a huge drop off, I'll move my opinion to "yes" with a record of 9-7 or 10-6. I think the Eagles will still give us problems at home and we'll be lucky to split with the Cowboys. Officially "no" and will readjust my prediction after this weekend. |

You're right sport. 9-7. |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
I am having a hard time saying yes at this point. We have 1 game against the Giants (in NY) 2 against Dallas,no gimme against Buffalo right now, they are playing very well. Minnesota, Tampa Bay, the Bears. I just dont know how I feel. On one hand I like to say we should win 5 or 6 of the next 9 games. But that will be very tough. that is saying we beat the cowboys once, beat Minnesota on the road, and possibly the Giants on the road. of the teams we have left Most of them have decent to pretty good olines, decent to good dlines and pretty good D's. We have struggled to score against teams with so - so D's. Honestly, I would be surprised if we went 8-8 this year. I just see nothing through seven games that makes me think we can keep up with the giants and cowboys. We can't score, nor will the coaches takes the steps to put points on the board.

Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
I definitely agree that 9 wins could get someone in. The NFC is just so mediocre.
Whoever makes it to the Super Bowl from the NFC is going to get trounced.
Perhaps people haven't noticed, but New Orleans has won 3 in a row and in strong fashion. They're waking up. And I'm still a bit afraid of Philadelphia, especially when Brian Dawkins returns. People are writing both of those teams off WAAY too quickly. We have the chops to beat them either head to head or in a race for a playoff spot, don't get me wrong. It's certainly possible we get in. But to say the NFC is so crappy is dangerous. The Saints especially are perfectly capable of going on a tear. |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
And... are we counting on a total collapse by Detriot? They are 5-2, you know.
I know we beat the living piss out of them, but aside from the games with us and Philly, they've played solidly. |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
Put me down as a no. Dallas will own us in both games, as will NYG in the game up there. Even TB would beat us on their home field.
Btw, no playoffs means Gibbs 2.0 is done in DC and will surely walk away. |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
I could see anywhere from 9-7 to 11-5.
We're an above average football team who is at it's lowest point in the season due to injuries and scheduling. The important thing obviously is that we finish strong. If we don't improve as a football team, the statistical playoff odds report gives us a 1/3 chance of being a playoff team. The thing is, I would bet handsomely that this offense makes great strides over the second half of the season in the passing game. That could improve our team a lot, and I still think our chances of catching Dallas and New York are very good. We just need to take care of our business. I'm pessimistic about this week, but I'm optimistic about the season after this. Remember, if we can take care of Philly next week, they still have a home game with both Dallas and New York. We could gain some serious ground on those teams when they start playing in the division. |

They might have played their best game of the season against Chicago, but they still have GB twice, Dallas, the Giants among other teams. A 4-5 finish (extremely optimistic) only gets them to 9-7, and we hold the tiebreaker. |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
Sorry fellas. I'm typically an optimist when it comes to my views of the 'Skins, but I'm gonna have to say no and pray that I am proven terribly wrong at the beginning of the post season. I simply believe that our O-line problems are going to be too much to overcome. That area is the reason our running game has suffered, not Clinton Portis thank you, and Jason Campbell is now running for his life. Anything can happen and hopefully we can somehow keep plugging decent bodies in on the offensive line. But that will be quite a challenge to say the least and I think we will be watching the playoffs from the sideline...again. :-(

I just see us winning 9 or 10 games and getting the 6th seed. |
Re: Will the Redskins Make the Playoffs
I understand why there is a lot of gloom and doom sentiment around here. I would have to be a blind optimist to think that we don't have some serious problems. The running game is the worst we've seen in years, the passing game has sputtered, we've lost Jansen and Rogers for the season, Thomas might not come back until mid-December, we barely beat Miami and Arizona, and we got demolished by the Patriots.
With all that being said, I strongly believe that this team will make the playoffs and here is why. Yes, the defense got demolished by the Patriots, but what defense wouldn't? The defense is stout and, with the emergence of Rocky McIntosh and the additions of guys like Laron Landry, London Fletcher, and even David Macklin, this defense will return to form next week. The offensive line is really banged up, but I cannot help but think that time itself and Buges' coaching up will help improve things (even if the O-line doesn't become a source of strength). Portis, Moss and Betts, IMO, are not the Hall of Famers we want them to be, but they are too good to continue playing like they have. Does anyone really think Portis, Moss, and Betts can play any worse? Jason Campbell is young and has just 14 starts under his belt and should improve with time. Finally, after this Sunday we should be 5-3 in a weak NFC with a schedule that isn't a cakewalk, but isn't exactly tough. So, my question to you is, will the Redskins make the playoffs this season?
Nope. How can anyone say we are going to make the playoffs scoring 14 points a game??? It's crazy. Three teams are not going to come out of the NFC East. Cowboys and Giants are going to make because they are: 1. better than we are. 2. both are ahead of us. |

IF Dallas has clinched the division and a playoff spot, then you probably will not see the starters too much in the second half and some very conservative play calling so the starters won't get hurt. It is in FedEx too. Also I think that Washington will need that win to get that wildcard spot. If you look at Detroit, they are in the same boat as Washington, they have a division game last week of the season against the Packers. Who may mirror Dallas, and have thier division locked up and clinched. So, the Packers will not want to get anyone hurt as well. I think the Lions and the Redskins will fight it out for that last wild card spot. Washington owns the tie-breaker. You can realistically estimate that the Lions can finish 10-6 and the Skins 10-6. But with Washington owning the head-to-head tie-breaker. After the Skins and Lions, there just is not any NFC Team that leaps out as a contender for that second wild-card spot. The first Wild-Card, I predict will go to the G-Men or Dallas, depending on which one of those wins the NFC Beast. That is just the way I see it. |

Exactly everyone is so quick to proclaim the Eagles and Saints as rising teams, but good teams falter as well. We are forgetting that here, and for example the Cowboys could go through a 3 game losing streak when we play them. You really don't know in the NFL. |

Barely. McNabb missed a wide open Curtis on the goaline that would have tied the game. McNabb played terrible. It looks like he is coming around and is getting healthy. We probably will continue to struggle because the O-line is playing like crap and our wideouts and running backs aren't producing. But, I don't think you can take the last two games in isolation and use them to predict how we will fare the rest of the way. Gibbs and Saunders admitted they were too conservative against the Cards and the Pats, well, are the Pats. |
