True. Very true. To me it's always been an expression that I don't instantly relate to Jonestown when I hear, but I hear what you're saying. I mean I get kind of bothered by that one sig we have on here that says "Dan Snyder is the Cancer..." Kind of belittles both Snyder's battle with cancer and the tragic impact of the disease itself, in my opinion. But maybe I'm just overreacting. By the way, cool story here: ESPN - OTL: Jonestown founder's grandson redeems family name - ESPN |

Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality
If everyone always agreed, this wouldn't be much of a site. Disagreements often make for the best discussions/threads. Everyone just needs to be smart and respectful (I realize the former may be hard for some) in their posts. I don't think it's too hard.
One thing that absolutely drives me nuts are internet tough guys. Anyone who can get personally insulting- calling people douche bags, physical threats, etc on a fan website or any other online forum is a complete tool. It's really easy to hide behind a user name and an avatar and go after others. It's also really cowardly and childish. Anyone remember that Porterhouse fiasco?? Don't be dumb, don't be a bully. Or I'll kick your ass!:) |

Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality
Bottom line, you sure start a heck of a lot of threads. But they are quality threads. I'm thinking of maybe having you start a thread teaching people how to start a thread. Seriously, your threads are well thought out and spark very good discussions (by those that are actually here to have good discussions)
I'm completely serious. You start a 12thMan's Guide to a Proper Thread and I'll sticky it
It's been a very interesting week, huh fellas..and ladies. Let me say this, I like to write and contribute to this site just as much as the next guy. There's really no right or wrong way to start a thread, I think. Yes, there are some general guidelines established by the Mods, and then there are the unspoken rules, so to speak. For instance, "Portis Sucks" or "I hate Gibbs" don't go far. And you really don't believe that anyway, do you? In fact, you actually love Joe Gibbs. If you saw Gibbs or Portis in Starbucks, or wherever it is you go, you'd be running around like a three year old trying to get an autograph. I'll take it a step further, if one of us ran into Ethan Albright, we couldn't wait to get to the nearest computer to let everyone on Warpath know about it. Proof that we really do appreciate and admire these guys greatly. Every single one of them. You and I are just pissed about the way things are going with the team sometimes, that's all. Does your wife want to fire you for leaving the toilet seat up all the damn time? Nope. So don't go overboard the next time Joe Gibbs leaves the toilet seat up, so to speak, in the final two minutes of the game. Which actually leads me to my first of five things. One: Generally speaking, if you're pissed off about something, your thread is doomed from jump street. Because you're already in an argumentative mode and the point never really becomes the point. It usually becomes a contest to see who can become the rudest camouflaged as an intelligent argument. Personally, I usually go with fives because it's just easier for me to lay my thoughts out. I also find that other posters can nit-pick my thread easier without attacking me personally. For instance, they may like point 2 but disagree with point 4. That way they don't just trash the whole damn thread. It would take a real asshole to disagree with five out of five things, don't you think? But even if they disagreed with everything, I still wouldn't give a damn. On to number two. Two: If I think it's going to be a long thread, I usually write it on a Word document or an email format first, then I'll post it later. That just works for me, you have to find what works for you. I can go back and forth, pick my nose, and think about it before I post it. Sometimes when I write it directly on Warpath and try to save it before the server decides to timeout, I don't feel pressured to finish it before it's really clear. And believe it or not, I steal a little of everyone's style, a little of their humor and make it my own. So the next time, you see me misspell a word, remember I'm imitating DBOYZ at that point. Three: I pretend like I'm actually talking to one of you in person or even anticipate a rebuttal beforehand. So, say you know Earthquake, Paulskinsfan, or GhettoAllStars are going to rip your ass because of something bogus you posted. Chances are you'll probably think twice and at least try to make it tough for them to "not see" where you're coming from. Sounds crazy, but it kind of helps. Again, getting everyone to agree with you shouldn't be the goal of any thread or post, but rather seeing where everyone is on an issue. Or do others share that same sentiment. That's why starting a Gibbs thread, or a Ramsey thread, or a Portis v. Champ thread is so silly. It's well documented how people feel and stand on these issues - good and bad. Now after Clinton becomes rushing champ this year, all bets are off. I'm starting a thread! Four: Think about the guys who visit the site, but we never hear from. Seriously. They either think we're too full of ourselves or we're too negative at times or just too damn rude. None of which is entirely true. I know the first time I started a thread, I was nervous as heck. I think...no, I know, collectively there isn't a fan site anywhere that can hold a candle to Warpath in terms of knowledge, passion, and overall organization. That being said, it can be a little intimidating for someone who's visiting and then feel they have nothing to add because we're so "knowledgeable". Guys, we want to create a warm, friendly environment that embraces all races, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and genders. So for all you lurkers out there, come out of the cyber closet and post with us. You damn sissy! Five: Effin relax and have some fun! Some of you cats act like you need a piece. Just come here and have some damn fun. Don't take yourself too seriously, don't take the members here too seriously, and quite frankly, don't even take the Mods too seriously. It's not like they're Cowboy fans. Don't forget at the end of the day, they're Redskins fans just like the rest us. Half the guys we get pissed at, are dudes we'd sit beside at a pub, have over for dinner, or maybe hold hands with - if you're Malcolm that is. I know for sure I wouldn't trust RedskinRich alone with my old lady. No way, buddy! But chances are, if you met most of these guys/gals you'd think they were very cool. Even though SBF can be a little weird at times, I think he's a good guy at heart. I mean, how many damn ways can you barbeque a rib! :) That's all I got fellas. |

However, we already have a "Joe Must Step Down" thread, another thread discussing Joe's impact with the personnel since returning, another debating his draft skills. So if mod speculates and thinks a thread is going to create a debate that is already being discussed he or she can shut it down immediately? I was told if I started the "I hate Kool Aid Drinkers" thread, that it would not be shut down (see postings above). What's the difference?

Well for one thing you'd clearly be starting the "I Hate Kool Aid Drinkers" thread to incite, not necessarily to debate right? Particularly with that title. However, I locked it (as I and Tripp have pointed out) to try to keep the site clean by minimizing the number of essentially duplicate threads. |

i post very rarely but the threads are getting ridiculouls. i have learned to only pabuty attention to who posts the threads. there are alot of post whores here but i really like taking a look at all opinions. i had a very bitter dispute with someone a while ago and they were banned for asking my address to kick my ass and that is out of like for a difference of opinion. i have also been on long enouph to know banned peeps are only out for being vulgar or atacking members. that's the only reason you will be kicked so if you are not vulgar or attacking fellow skins why does it affect you?

The link is still there for all to see. With all the Gibbs stuff flying around, it's just not necessary to have another 100 posts on a new thread. I personally think it's a funny link, but not worth it's own thread, at least not this week. @paulskinsfan:
Just so you know, you would have CERTAINLY been banned for AT LEAST 2 weeks if you questioned the mods' decisions on that Tampa Bay board, like you have with the Gibbs Vocab thread. It could have even been a 3 month ban -- they hand 'em out like candy. Just the simple fact that you can have the discussion with the mods about that thread, and why it was locked, speaks volumes about their leniency and fairness. And, they even re-opened it! What does that tell you? |
Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality
This is a great skins site. Kudos to the mods for a fantastic job running it. There are fans as well as fanatics on here. I don't post on here often, and when I do post, I often disagree/argue with mods and fanatics alike. Love the kool aid vs anti kool aid perspectives and banter that goes on.
I initially didn't see the need for this "put things in perspective" thread, but it does serve a huge purpose. We're all at our cantankerous best after a loss, especially a loss in a season following a losing season, and especially in a season following a losing season that in turn followed a playoff season. No matter how much we regard/disregard individuals that play, coach, or manage the organization, we're all linked by our desire to see the Skins be great again. Fuck the Tampa Bay Bucs site and the mods that run it and I resent the fact that The Warpath was ever mentioned in the same breath. |

Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality
After the spiritual evisceration that was this past Sunday, I had to take a break from posting about the Redskins on this site. I did that because I felt ultra dissappointed and I didn't want my negativity and irrationality to compound the current ridiculous dichotomy between the kings of kool aid and the haterade heroes.
The break accomplished 2 things: One, I gained perspective. In the two days since our loss, the following have, statistically speaking, happened- 3,000 people have died from cancer, 731,520 babies were born into this world and 14,000 deer have died at the hands of LadyBrave. Splitting our series with the Eagles isn't that bad. The second thing it accomplished was to make me appreciate how much I enjoy discussing the redskins on this site. I waste an inordinate amount of time here. And generally enjoy every second. But when people start to talk less about the team and more about how worthless each other's viewpoints are, I feel like the experience is lessened. Here's what I don't get concerning all of the bitching and moaning: Mods run the site. If they really wanted to unfairly censor those with differing points of view, they'd just ban you and that would be the end of it. Forget namecalling, we'd all just forget there ever was an Offis or a Paulskinsfan or whoever, because they'd cease to exist on this site. Consequently so would a lot of valuable discussion that makes this site so great. I'm not trying to kiss anyone's ass or anything but I believe that by and large this group of mods does everything it can to maintain and improve the quality of fan interaction on this site. That's not to say that the Mods aren't human. If they care enough about the team to spend whatever ungodly amount of hours it takes to maintain this forum, then obviously they are going to get a little bit annoyed with 14 "Fire Gibbs" threads immediately after a loss. Especially when we have a winning record and at least a puncher's chance to make the playoffs. Believe it or not they probably roll their eyes to the same extent when there are 15 "We are the greatest team since Michael and the archangels took on the Egyptian Firstborns" threads. What I'm getting at is, take a second to think before you post. Ask yourself- "is what I have to say going to add to the overall quality of the discussion going on right now?" "Am I just venting?" "What am I hoping to accomplish?" "Do I honestly believe what I'm posting or am i just so dissappointed right now that I'm trying to take it out on everone else?" If the answer to any of those is yes, then it's probably best to take a porn break. Come back when you're relaxed. I have to admit, I am slanted towards taking a positive look at the Redskins if at all possible. (not the easiest when Westbrook runs through the middle of our D for 58 yards and the go ahead score) I'd rather talk about ways we can get better as opposed to ways we suck. If that's not you, that's cool. But I just have to question the fanhood of anyone experiencing schadenfreude over their own team losing just so they can go online and say "I told you so..." Mods are great and obviously this site would be an absolute disaster without them but I think we can all do our part (especially the ones who've been around for awhile, lurkers and posters alike) to police ourselves. I suggest taking a short break, realizing what makes this site such a great place to waste the workday on and then come back refreshed. Just a thought...
Perfectly stated, Burgandy. Reading this post just made me realize that of all the time I spend online, and all the hobbies and interests I have and spend time on, this is the only online forum in which I participate. I've tried others but just lost interest. The conversation wasn't stimulating or sufficient or the place was poorly run. I can honestly say that in a good 15+ years of watching and observing online forums, this is the only one to which I keep coming back. That all may seem minor, but for me it's a real testament to how well this place is run. A good discussion forum is good because it's well run from the top down. Yeah we all disagree from time to time, or on a regular basis, but how fun would this place be if everyone was agreeing and saying the same thing the whole time? I've learned more from arguing my point with people than I would by just having people nod and agree. In short, I love this place, and I love all you guys. ::sniff:: (yes, I suppose I even love offiss and irish too) |

Here's what you said in that thread: "As for me, if you win it's parrot avatar and new sig for me. If I win it's two weeks off for you. This doesn't include Matty's one week. So it would be a total of three weeks. Unless Matty agrees to merge our bets. With next week being Thanksgiving week, who knows how much you were going to post anyway or how much I'm going to be on the site. I want two solid weeks." So why are you changing it now? The bet was 2 weeks, and it would start on Sunday after the game. If you wanted 2 weeks from Friday after Thanksgiving then you shouldve said so before the bet was made. By the way Mattyk never accepted the bet. |
Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality
Ok, I read your post several times, and it is ambiguous at the best. I guess you are basing your 2 weeks from Fri. after Thanksgiving language on the following:
"With next week being Thanksgiving week, who knows how much you were going to post anyway or how much I'm going to be on the site. I want two solid weeks." If that was always your intent, then fine, I don't mind changing. But Im tellin ya, you'd make a horrible lawyer! |
Ok, I read your post several times, and it is ambiguous at the best. I guess you are basing your 2 weeks from Fri. after Thanksgiving language on the following:

If that was always your intent, then fine, I don't mind changing. It could be mid April for all you know. It may be a moot point anyway. Anyhow, please consult my law team of JoeRedskin, Sheriff Gonna Getcha, and um I know there's some other lawyer on here. |
