Deep down, I knew, just knew, he would make it. That was the only thing that allowed me to really deal with today. This is unbelievable.

I just called my Dad because I knew I could cry to him about this. RIP Sean.

Exactly, AMD. My hopes were way up because of last night, then I wake up and he's dead. I don't think it's set in yet. Too shocking.

We are all a part of the Redskins family....and although the players are the representatives that we see on the field....we have all lost a brother today...

There are no words to express how I feel right now. Just a lot of tears. My deepest sympathy goes to the family, friends, teammates and coaches. May God bless and comfort them.

To my friends of the Redskins nation

Once more, along with my Steel City Famiy, we would like to pass along our condolences to you on this most somber occasion. Sean Taylor was one hell of a Football player who I had a lot of respect for. No body deserves to suffer these events. It's heartbreaking to see this happen to anyone in any organization.

May he Rest In Peace as a Friend, Football Player, Teammate, and above all Father.

I'm just in shock.

I really can't believe he's gone.

I'm numb right now, I don't know what to say or feel.

What an absolute shame. Can't say more then we'll miss you. You went out like a man can only hope to, defending your family from harm. God Bless.

So, does the team retire jersey #21?

I think you have to. The way he went out is somewhat unprecedented. Leading the league in INT's. Had made his first probowl a year before... Wasn't doing ANYTHING wrong when he died. ( I hate the media right now) I think you have to retire the jersey. Don't wait a year, do it asap.
So, does the team retire jersey #21?
Hard to say. Redskins have many, many great players that they won't use the number but it's not officially retired, Jerg's #9, Riggin's #44 and until they made a mistake that cost them Bobby Mitchell in the front office the #43

Sammy Baugh's #33 is the only Officially Retired Redskins' number.

Redskins please don't let someone wear Sean Taylor's Number. The #21 is Sean Taylors!

Hails Skins and RIP Sean Taylor [my favorite current Redskin]
The saddest thing about this whole situation is that DESPITE HIS ISSUES, which the media is so eager to report....he wasn't out doing the crazy things which put peoples live's in jeporady....He was at home with his family and he killed trying to protect his family.....he worked hard to get to this level of professional athletics and someone who obviously refuses to want to work for anything steps on and ends his life far too early....
Well said.

Unbelievable. I went to bed late after reading every possible update and went to sleep encouraged. My wife just woke me to share the tragic news. I last felt this way when Dale Earnhardt Sr. was killed in Daytona. My heart and prayers go out to the Taylor family. God bless you Sean, we'll all miss you bro'.

jaheem 11-27-2007 07:39 AM

Re: Sean Taylor has died...

Due to the unprecedented nature of this tragic event....I believe that it is an absolute necessity that Sean's jersey be retired....I understand that there were other greats whose numbers aren't officially retired but here is a young man who was gunned down in his home trying to protect his family....I say the word hero with some trepidation due to the current state of affairs in the Middle East....but at the very minimum he was serving as a hero to his family at the time...he was killed in the line of duty of being a protector of his family....If not this week....I would definitely want to see his number retired at the first home game of next year....

What will the team do financially for his family, especially his daughter? Can they at least put together a college fund or something?

ST was not a poor man. He must have several mil laying around. Unfortunately, that kind of thing has a tendency to get ugly when the family scrambles for the loot. Hopefully, that will not be the case.

Totally damn senseless. I am sad. Very sad. His poor daughter.

BleedBurgundy 11-27-2007 07:50 AM

Re: Sean Taylor has died...

I'm sure he had some sort of insurance, and if not, I can't see the players not pooling together some money for a fund.

Re: Sean Taylor has died...

My local NBC reported it as my wife was getting ready for work and woke me up. I turned on NFLN, ESPNews and then went through the national news channels. CNN confirmed the local news story but I still wouldn't believe. I still couldn't believe it until I saw a few more sites. There isn't more to say other than what's been said.

Sean Taylor was unequivocally my favorite Redskin. I bought his jersey, and I'll always cherish the memories of him on the field. I trust the Skins will find a way to honor him appropriately, but right now I want whoever killed him brought to justice.

I have no doubt Snyder will take care of them. Say what you want about him, but he lives for the burgundy and gold and will make things right for the family.

jaheem 11-27-2007 07:57 AM

Re: Sean Taylor has died...

I have no doubt that Sean's daughter Jackie will be absolutely taken care of...looking at the amount of love that his team had for him...the fact that his family doesn't seem like the type of family to gripe over something as empty as money...and also add in the Miami/NFL family and their continued support of their alumni....and the connection that Clinton Portis and Santanna MOss and the other guys had....and also the fact that my heart tells me that Daniel Snyder will not let that little girl want for anything...or the family for that matter...I can almost guarantee you....when the team goes to retire Sean's jersey...and have his name entered in the ring of honor...his family will be there....pretty much why I think that the ceremony will be held at halftime of the first home game next season....

Ditto...what can you do?

Life goes on...I lost an uncle a year ago this week

He was my best friend and lifelong 'skins fan, I've always said his spirit would come down out of heaven and destroy me if I let his death ruin my own joy with life, and although I didn't know him, I'm sure ST would say the same thing to the fans...

We'll mourn his loss, but we will move on.

RIP...ST

He was my favorite player on our Defence, and this day will not soon be forgotten. I have been avoiding people this morning on this because its just to much to take in right now.. I can only emagine the pain and suffering his family is going through.. May God be with them in this time of need, and may his soul rest in peace. Thank you Sean for the passion your brought to the field and for the memories......

These are all such wonderful post and sentiments. I am at a loss of words. I am thankful for the time we had him on the team, and never beyond my wildest dreams think that I was there for his last plays vs. Eagles when he came out at the half.

I feel like crying.

I don't think I have ever felt like crying over the death of someone I didn't know. Until now.

Seahawks fan here,

Condolences to all of the Skins fans and fans of Sean Taylor. I went to sleep with the news that he had stabilized and when I woke up, I found out he had died. Very tragic, and my prayers are with Sean, his family, friends and anyone who needs them right now.

I think there is more to this story than meets the eye. We are all so overcome with grief right now, that maybe we are dismissing the possibility of Taylor's fiance' or someone inside the home. 900,000 dollar home, and no security? Especially after two weeks ago someone broke in? I think something fishy is going on. I wonder if when he was airlifted if he was in his street clothes. I dunno, I guess I'm just searching for answers. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

In the mornings, my wife wakes up before me to take care of our dog. When I came out this morning, she was crying and had the Tivo paused on a screen declaring Sean Taylor's untimely death.

We both had become big fans of Sean over the past 18 months; football aside. We admired the way he had taken charge of his life to become a better person. So sad. We will carry this one for a while.

I was dreading turning on the TV this morning...I had a really bad feeling about ST.

I hope they fry the fucker who did this!!! :madani:

I think the Redskins will retire #21. I sure as hell wouldn't want to wear that # if I were a Redskin...it would be disrespectful, IMHO.

RIP, Sean...you'll be missed...

There are a lot of unanswered questions right now. While we are facing this grief, we should keep any specualtion to a minimum. By every account, Taylor was home with his fiancee and daughter. Until such time as those facts are disproven, we should respect the family. Regardless of the circumstances, the family is grieving.
