Clearly I'd rather bring back Ade Jimoh for 16 games as the starting safety before putting Rock Cartwright there. It's OK to admire Cartwright for his special teams play but when the dawn of reality arrives, that's all he is - - a special teams player.

If you think along those lines, Lorenzo Alexander plays offense and defense and special teams so he must be REALLY versatile. How about converting him to a WR...? :nono:
You're such a cherry picker. :cheeky-sm

What about Glenn Dorsey from LSU the DT now he can get penetration and is an excellent pass rusher from the DT spot and that safety from LSU is Chad Jones and he is a freshman.

Dorsey will be one of the first picks taken
Man I think we take Kenny Phillips, from there we draft d-line, then o line. It may be a strange pick since he's for the U, but IMO a good one. No one could ever replace ST!
I can agree with that kind of drafting priority. We could certainly justify using our 1st rounder on a FS and a guy like KP. Using our 2nd rounder on a DT or DE would also be a good idea. Finally, using our 3rd rounder on an O-lineman would be a good move. We don't need to use a top pick on an O-lineman since we should have 5 solid starters for next season. Although 1 or 2 of our O-lineman will likely be gone by 2009, using a 3rd rounder on an O-lineman who can develop for a year prior to hitting the field would be a move that I could get behind.
i don't know matty, it looks to me like alot of teams that have actually tried to run against us (especially on first down) have made it to the second level with ease...
That's on the LB's
Just my opinion but I really think you guys are really discounting Doughty...
He's no Sean Taylor but then ST was a supernova anyway, a once in a lifetime player...All we need is a decent starter I think Reed fills that role nicely...the schemes can be changed to play to Doughty's strengths and weaknesses just like they did with Sean...We've got some outstanding young players in Landry, McIntosh, Rogers, Blades, etc...

Our priorities should be the O&D-line, then the O&D-line, then the O&D-line...oh and did I mention the O&D-line?
I'd love to see him prove me wrong but I really don't think that Doughty is the answer.
I think that has more to do with issues in coverage. Rogers out, Taylor, Smoot in and out each week, Springs nicked up and personal issues, etc.
The 2 are so co-dependent it's hard to tell at times. Since you brought it up, maybe the coverage has been the bigger difference. We did start losing as soon as ST got hurt in the Philly game.

I do agree that Doughty isn't a long term answer. I think if it comes down to a decision between d-line & saftey they will pick the best player, just like last year w/LL.

Re: sorry to think this but...replacing sean taylor

depends on where we end up picking at. IF Kenny Phillips is the best available when we get to our pick then I would take him but if we have a chance at Glenn Dorsey or Chris Long I would be estatic of either one. But it will alll depend on who we go after in free agency as well. i.e. (DeAngelo Hall, Bernard Berrian, Asante Samuel)

doughty shouldn't be starting for an nfl team. he's a solid player, a good tackler (And i guy i absolutely wanted and said we'd draft), but he's slow for the nfl. good backup, good special teamer.

i think DE, OL, and CB are more important though. springs and lloyd are probably getting tossed, so depth or a quality starter there is important. DE is obviously the most important spot still, since daniels is old and average and carter is a bit light (but he's playing MUCH better than last year). OL is obvious, since we've got age and injury concerns up and down there.

not that another great safety would be a bad idea, but 2nd and 3rd rounders at LB and S can be good quality starters pretty easily (marcus washington etc). 3rd round Gs and Cs can be good starters fairly easily as well.

I'm not against the skins drafting a safety, but there are other areas of need too. In no particular order we need oline help, a playmaker at WR (in the redzone), safety, CB (if springs is gone), and DE.

I don't know how the rest of the season will go, but I get the feeling that we need alot of help and not too many draft choices to use.
