Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
The situation is "out of hand" in the eyes of the media and fans, both of which know very little of what is actually going on behind the scenes. We haven't heard a peep from any Redskins official during this process, so until then we only have ourselves to blame for this self induced panic.
What did Snyder say when Gibbs stepped down? Something about being patient and going through the process? Sounds like he's doing exactly what he said he was going to do.
Matty, While I often agree with you, here I must humbly disagree. If Snyder/Cerrato already know what they want to do with the HC vacancy then why don't they hold a presser and announce Gibbs' successor? You can say that they are "being patient" and perhaps waiting until after the SB, but in that case why are they bringing in Zorn and Ryan as OC and DC candidates (as multiple sources have reported)? If they are bringing in OC and DC candidates then the only conclusion is that they have a successor in place already, otherwise why are you trying to build a staff already? If Fassel is the guy, then why not just announce it? Why is it contingent on getting Zorn and Ryan? I can't imagine that Fassel is in position to say, I'll only come if I can get X and Y on my staff. If you trust Fassel to run the ship then why do you need a whole staff in place before you hire him? Not to mention the fact that the Redskins still have an OC and DC under contract (obviously a new coach would probably overhaul, but why make that attempt publicly before you have even announced a new coach?) If they want to wait for Spagnolo (which would have made sense had the Giants lost but now seems to just drag the thing out too long), then wait for him but don't bring in coaching candidates for the OC and DC jobs. No other team in the league that had a vacancy waited to fill the OC and DC spots before they announced the coach. They announced their head coach, then (logically) allowed him to move forward choosing his staff. I agree that the histrionics on this site and elsewhere during the search were unnecessary. However, the past two days Snyder has bungled the operation and I think criticism of specifically his handling of the Fassel/Ryan/Zorn situation is very justified. |

Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
Dan Snyder is a fool. He should get rid of Cerrato (again) as he doesn't know what he is doing and rehire Casserly who does know what he is doing. His obvious move would have been to promote Williams to head coach and let him hire the new defensive coach. By keeping Saunders and the other coaches, he could have built on what he has which is a team showing signs of developing into a winner. He doesn't understand cohesiveness and team spirit within the organization. Now, I gaurantee the team will regress into a doormat for the division. Snyder has gotten rid of better coaches than Fassel ever was.

If you think this thread is stupid don't post on it. If you think our voices don't affect people then don't talk. Our discourse has been featured on local television shows and mentioned on sportstalk radio. As for Dan reading this thread, probably not. Talking about problems often times fixes the problems or atleast makes them easier to deal with. Before ya claim a thread is stupid or 'explicative retarded' try consulting a thesaurus to give a better read. Thanks to the rest!!! Hail to the Redskins.

Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
And Snyder shouldn't bow to fan pressure. Remember the last Washington owner that got bullied by the fans and ended up changing course because of it? He ended up giving Juwan Howard $105M ...
That being said, the situation has gotten out of hand it seems and Snyder must accept at least some of the blame for that.
That's a good point. Remember Abe thought that throwing a parade for Juwan would entice him to stay in D.C.? Did anybody go to that? Fans, including myself, were pissed. In retrospect, Polin (by accident), made the right move, by not signing Juwan. Because of Howard's return, Rasheed Wallace for Rod Strickland soon followed.....That did ruin us. If you want to use the Wizards for comparison, look at how the Wizards have done since they got a real GM in Ernie Grunfeld! |

Yet Fassel has been to a Super Bowl in the last decade, something that Turner, Marty, Spurrier, and Gibbs can't lay claim to. |

How do we feel about Josh McDaniel? I mean if we're going to veer off the road and start over....

Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
Please don't shit the bed, Danny. This team does not need to be rebuilt. If you choose to rebuild, lose great coaches like Williams, Grey, Blache, Bugel, you are disrespecting the work Joe Gibbs did here, and saying you know better. Come on, man, sometimes the right decision is the obvious one.

Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
Joe Gibbs work is being slighted here. The reason he came back was because of the poor shape the team was in and decided to help build foundation to his old home team.
To disassemble the foundation that Gibbs has laid down is disrespectful to a HOF coach who saw his old team in need. I liked Gibbs role and I knew the results of his work during his time here more than likely wouldn't mean a Super Bowl run, but I was satisified knowing the work he was putting in to make this frachise stable. I don't want all of Gibbs efforts to go for naught. |

True that. The Skins haven't won a Super Bowl in over 15 years, you telling me you expected to win one in that span? And to do it while trying to create the mystic of those days again by having Gibbs as head coach? That senario is too Hollywood, those are long odds in my book. I did know though that Gibbs had enough influence to keep Snyder's hands off the squad so he could build a franchise back to domination. |

I don't know if he's the ONLY one. I certainly hoped Joe would lead us to a Super Bowl, but it became pretty clear we had a LONG way to go 2 years into his contract. Like the previous poster I was just happy that Joe was working to restore some professionalism and leadership to the franchise, if nothing else. |

So you can say that when Gibbs was first hired (before anyone took the field) that you never thought he could lead us to the SB or as was said make a run for a SB. I would think that anyone who had seen us win 3 SB's and everything else we won with Gibbs would have atleast thought we had a chance to make a SB run. |

We'll then we had 2 Super Bowl runs since he's been head coach. Super Bowl run meant Super Bowl winner or loser. I don't think any rational Skins fan thought he could win a Super Bowl just by being Joe Gibbs, but they knew he could add vast stability to the team by being Joe Gibbs. |

Gibbs is hired and all you thought of is stability for the team? That was the new term for when he left to as kind of an excuse of his record in his 2nd term. Not something people thought when he came back 4 years ago. |

Well two years into his contract is much different than the day he was hired. |
Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
Or you hire them together. Isn't that essentially what happened with Gibbs and Williams?
But Gibbs was already on-board and went up to Buffalo personally to recruit Williams. I'm not sure if they presser announcing Gibbs had already gone forward, but he was the coach by that point regardless. I have no idea why they are trying to assemble an entire staff before announcing the coach. If Fassel is the guy than say so, obviously that is the implication when you start bringing in Zorn, Ryan, Ramsdell (per JLC's latest post). But no, the Redskins went 0-3 trying to get assistants in place and now are apparently backing off Fassel and saying they may wait until after the Super Bowl to look at Spags and McDaniel. WTF. So you alienated Williams, the entire existing coaching staff by leaving them in the dark, you bring in guys to interview for jobs (including the QB's coach - so much for you Bill Lazor - who is pretty much universally like around here from all I have seen). You completely tear down an entire organizational structure in order to bring in Fassel? It makes no sense, and the way they are going about it is asinine. If you want to blow the thing up and bring in Fassel, then just do it already. Don't let everyone think that they are losing their jobs by bringing in all these people (but leaving the existing coaches in the dark for 16 days) and then back off the process, not name Fassel the coach, and say oh wait, maybe we should interview some Giants and Patriots coaches too just for good measure. I respect the opinions of guys like Matty and Smootsmack, but no one can convince me that the Skins have handled this thing the right way. Uh, yes? I mean, I love Saint Joe, but I don't think he really has magical powers. The team he inherited was a flaming car wreck. Did I hope we'd make the playoffs? Sure. Did I think we were going to the Super Bowl? Not realistically. At least not until year 4 or 5. Maybe I'm one of only a handful of people who didn't truly believe that we were Super Bowl bound the day after Joe was hired but I kind of doubt it. |

Trying to recreate the past and winning a Super Bowl doing so seems too simple. Life isn't much like Hollywood scripts so I knew not to expect much. What I could expect is knowing Gibbs had the clout to keep Snyder's hands off the team. Gibbs knew he couldn't ensure a Super Bowl but he could ensure building a stable team environment in which to build one. |

Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKESDon't let your ego get in the way of your gut feeling. Williams is the only one who can continue the success of what Joe Gibbs has taken you out of prior to his hiring. Do not mess this up again for it will drop your assET from the top of earnings to the bottom when we sit-out. If you hire Fassel you will have just undone what your Mentor in Gibbs has accomplished - all for not. If you hire Fassel please include in your next expansive bill another charge: MIDDLING OWNER FEE/STILL HAVEN'T LEARNED FROM EARLIER MISTAKE - Charge $100 That might cover your overpriced ego for getting name players and coaches that end up in the gutter. Ummm let me think Deon, Archuleta shall I go on...

Re: SNYDER reconsider PETITION!!!
I hope and pray that whoever becomes the next coach of the team will be fortunate enough to meet with above average success so it will be a while before we go through another process like this. This has been one of the most challenging of processes I've witnessed in my lifetime when it comes to selecting a football coach.
