i never really wanted to draft him pre-combine either though, but i'm less of a fan now.
who cares what an end or an olinemen or q qb runs a 40 in...none of them ever run 40 yards. you can be quick off the line but then be out of breath in ten yards.

duno if this is the case for those guys, just saying in general

that doesn't change the fact that he was the slowest guy there, looked completely out of breath afterwards, and decided not to press (generally when you're good at something, you'd like to let people know about it).

i know you like anything miami, but he's not first round talent.

porter's 40 could let him be available for our 2nd pick. he was believed to run 4.34-4.37 before the combine and pro day.

Re: Draft - Combine/Pro Day results, info from KFFL

golston's pro day - 40 time improved to 4.59 from 4.67, vertical improved to 42" from 37"... he had 37 225lbs reps at the combine, so he's not getting out of the top 7-8 players taken.

btw, mcfadden kinda reminds me of warrick dunn. lots of break away potential, but no yards after contact. hope his OL is great at breaking him into the 2nd level.

ouch. on the backside, i wonder how far he falls because of this... i bet it's into the 2nd, but if he makes it to the 3rd, even with no need, he'd be a must. Won't happen, but it's tempting to think about.

Josh Barrett, DS #2 SS, Arizona State

03/12/08 - The Cleveland Browns do not have a selection until the 23rd pick of the fourth-round in the upcoming NFL draft, but that hasn't stopped the team from compiling a wish list of prospects to bring in for visits. Looking to shore up a questionable secondary, the team is prepared to take action. The Browns are expected to have Arizona State safety Josh Barrett in for a visit later this month. Barrett is an intriguing prospect with a rare combination of size, speed and overall athleticism. Many NFL scouts are comparing him to Washington Redskins rookie safety LaRon Landry, who the team selected with the sixth overall pick in the '07 draft. Not certain if Barrett will be around when it is time for the Browns to make their selection because he is en fuego. - Carlos Holmes, Dayton Daily News

02/27/08 - Arizona State safety Josh Barrett struggled with injuries and inconsistent play in 2007, even being benched during his senior year. His 4.35-second 40-yard dash and other excellent test results put him back on the map as a top 100 pick. It will have teams running back to that 2006 film where he got himself on the map at ASU as an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection (82 tackles, seven for loss and three picks). The question is, which player will appear in training camp next summer? Other top safeties performed well, starting with Notre Dame's Tom Zbikowski, who put up a solid 4.52 and showed fluid enough hips in drills to silence critics who believe he does not have the athleticism to play in the NFL. Quintin Demps from UTEP also backed up the closing speed he showed on tape with a 4.4 40. - Chad Reuter, NFLDraftScout.com

a guy worth looking at in the 3rd. zbikowski will also be there, and morgan might be too.

J.J. Pesavento, of Next Level Scouting, reports Utah WR Derrek Richards measured a height of 5-foot-10 5/8 and a weight of 182 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds and 4.42 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.09 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.72 seconds. He measured a 36-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump and completed 20 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

since everyone loves mix, here's two faster guys with the same size that won't be drafted in all likelyhood (one has a rap sheet from may 07 bar incident, one has an injury history). nfldraftscout ranks those WRs as the 43rd (purify) 53rd (schilens) and 172nd (richards) best prospects at their position (43rd best WR = 337th best prospect, meaning he'd be an 11th round pick).

the cb had a killer injury, but would be a great pickup (projected very late 7th rounder, possibly FA, but if we get two extra 7ths, it'd be nice to secure guys).

stats:
richards (35 punt returns, 12.8 average, 1 td; 15 kick returns, 23.8 average):
2007 - 57 catches, 635yds, 3 tds
2006 - 60 catches, 717yds, 6 tds
2005 - 16 catches, 239yds, 4 tds

schilens:
2007 - 35 catches, 679yds, 3 tds
2006 - 34 catches, 483yds, 2 tds
2005 - 34 catches, 441yds, 2 tds

purify (3rushes for 16yds, 1/1 passing for 28yds, 1 td):
2007 - 57 catches, 814yds, 9 tds
2006 - 34 catches, 630yds, 7 tds

zachary bowman:
2007 - 29 tackles (22 solo), 1 int, 6 PD, 1 tackle for loss, 1 QB hurry
2006 - did not play
2005 - 27 tackles (24 solo), 2 ints, 10 PD, 1 tackle for loss

purify is probably the one most worth drafting/signing (he has much better pro potential than marcus monk as an actual WR). schilens and richards had REALLY good showings though they lack college production.

Re: Draft - Combine/Pro Day results, info from KFFL

quick notes on last three posts:

Kent State CB Jack Williams basically maxed out his work out except for his 20 yard dash (which still isn't bad). 6.6 3cones aren't very common. neither are 5'9" guys hitting 41" on the vert.
college stats:
2007 - 93 tackles (70 solo), 3 ints, 7 tackles for loss, 8 PD, 1 FF
2006 - 62 tackles (40 solo), 4 ints (1 td), 8 tcakles for loss, 4 PD, 5 FF, 3 sacks (and 2 hurries)
2005 - 63 tackles (42 solo), 4 ints, 3 tackles for loss, 9 PD, 1 FF

projected to go in the low 4th. good value pick there, for sure.

bowman had a TERRIBLE showing. there are 290lb linemen that can run that fast (even if it's not that many). terrible 20 and 3cone too... just bad.

schmitt (WVA FB) looked good, golston looked like a beast, D Bryant will have the best 3cone this year. (combine record is 6.56 i believe, his pro day was a 6.51). not that that by itself means much of anything. he is a decent late rounder though (3 years of 1000yards receiving and he does returns).

vikings might take D thomas #17 overall...

NFL | Giguere works out at CFL Combine
Sat, 15 Mar 2008 17:07:44 -0700

John Murphy, of Yahoo Sports, reports Sherbrooke WR Samuel Giguere measured a 42-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-3 broad jump at the CFL Combine. He completed 17 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press and is expected to run the 40-yard dash in the low 4.4-second range or better during on-field workouts Sunday, March 16.

Prospect watch:
By John Murphy, Yahoo! Sports
October 29, 2007
• Sherbrooke (Canada) senior wide receiver Samuel Giguere is attracting interest. He finished second in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) with 45 receptions for 871 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging more than 19 yards per catch. He has been timed in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash with a career best time of 4.35. Giguere ran 4.41 for me during the workout session of this past spring's East-West Bowl held in Quebec City. He is a rare natural athlete with a 40-inch vertical, 4.14 short shuttle, 10-foot, 1-inch broad jump and has also completed 23 reps of 225 pounds during offseason training. Not subject to NCAA rules, he was able to sign with an agent while still having a year of college eligibility remaining. He signed with well-known CFL agent Darren Gill who has represented Jason Clermont and Chris Bauman, two of the top-rated receivers in recent CFL Draft memory. You could hear Giguere's name among the players assigned to the East-West Shrine Game or another postseason game.

pretty impressive numbers. he's 6'0", 220, and looks built

probably won't be drafted (had about 45 catches for 871 yards last year in the CIS).
