Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
Can't we stay away from horseshit receivers from the Bay Area? First Calvin Muhammad, then Malcom Barnwell, now this guy.

although he played for SF, he is from the Mid West

Yeah, kinda a "lousy 'Skins wide receiver from the Raiders/Niners" joke. I'm new to Redskins Warpath, does anyone have a sense of humor? Posts all seem so serious. When you put Muhammad, Barnwell & Lloyd in the same sentance, that's a joke, ok? |

Here at the Warpath we take the internet very seriously. That way we don't end up like Extreme Skins. |

I thought it was funny dude. Add TE Ethan Horton to the Raiders/Niners list. |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
I had so much high expectations of BL when we traded for him, I admit he was a total let down for me. I am glad we got rid of him and get on with finding a receiver that can help our ball team.

Some one was asking earlier if Lloyd was a June 1st cut, here's what this article said: "...was designated a June 1 cut for salary cap purposes, executive vice president Vinny Cerrato said, which means his salary cap figure of $4.2 million will drop to $1.8 million on June 1. (Lloyd will count $5.5 million in dead cap space in 2009.)" |

23 of those catches must have been during pre-season, right? |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
What a total and complete waste he was. I don't think any of us could have imagined him being the problem child he ended up being. Yeah we knew he was coming with a little baggage, but holy shit! He made about $11 million while he was here, and with a whopping 25 catches in 2 seasons, he earned about $440,000 per catch. That's just disgusting.

Actually he only had 2 catches for 14 yards in 2007 - so your memory is dead on GMANC! Also to have zero touchdowns in today's pass happy NFL - I mean you have to say that this is in part due to Llyod's play and simply blaming everyone else under the sun besides Llyod is ignorance. The guy is a bum. Everyone says he has all the athletic talent in the world to be dominant but results speak for themselves. Personally I think any team signing him even for the vet minimum is foolish because with all the injuries in today's NFL depth is so important and this guy is not even 2nd string material and would take up a valuable roster spot. It sucks that we gave up picks and $12 million to this guy but I am very happy that the Redskins have wiped the slate clean and cut their losses with Llyod. Now we can sign someone who actually wants to lace them up every weekend and actually produce for the burgundy and gold. Llyod has been fully exposed and chances are no team is going to take a chance on this guy. Out of the NFL and good riddence! |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
I'm shocked we did it so early. I really thought they would wait until next year. I don't blame the Skins for doing it, he was dead weight...even worse, an anchor around the Skins necks.
We obviously don't need him around. We just took close to a 2.9 mil cap hit by doing this. Just unsure why now when it would have cost us $0 to drop him after this season. |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
WoW. and I was beginning to have fun with my lame rapping. LOL <; )
I can't belive I got canned by the Redskins, banned to play the pigskin, to much stress, I found it hard with the all the tension, now I have to worry 'bout my pension, I can't belive I got canned by the Redskins, now I'm on a brand new mission, and I don't need to ask permission, to try and seek a job with the Dolphins, hopin to play with out the problems, Workin real hard to lose the goblins, sittin on the sidelines modelin, waitin for the chance to cash it all in, singin my rap cuz it's what I'm talkin, now I find myself simply walkin, hopin I get a chance as a Dolphin, droppin the balls like I know I can, rappin so hard I'll have a lot of fans, I can't belive I got fired by the Redskins.................. |

From the reports from JLC Llyod is being designated a post June 1 cut, so the Skins are getting the benefits of cutting him now and the cap savings too without having to give the guy the $1.8 million bonus for 2008. What makes me mad about this is when you look at his pay per catch rate - with a $10,000,000 signing bonus and 25 catches in 2 years he got $400,000 a catch - not a bad gig if you could land it. At least he could have gotten 1 TD as one of his receptions, but that was too much to ask. |

Fair enough...but interjecting a little levity along the way doesn’t hurt and sometimes makes a point and educates others who might not remember being in the same position (sans salary cap) almost 25 years ago. |

Keep in mind sarcasm goes a long way on this board. I guess every board. Some times people are serious and sometimes they are very sarcastic in hopes of being funny. In any case don't break the board rules and get thick skin. When you mention 25yrs ago I hope you are mentioning when the salary cap started. I'm supprised no one has opened a new forum in reference to a possible 2010 cap free yr? what's wrong with you people? |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
I won't be surprised if he's completely out of football before long.
|
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
I think he values his rapping more then his football. He was not that vocal about not getting on the field like others that were benched. I could see him trying to get on with a team that runs the WC, perhaps the Saints or some team desperate to give him a try.

Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
goodbye!!
|
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
Thank God.
Now we will only have to read about him when offiss, irish or other naysayers want an example of how F'd up our front office supposedly is or as an argument as to why we should have a GM. I predict Lloyd becomes the new Bruce Smith, as in "Snyder just plays fantasy football and pays too much, just look what he did for Lloyd". |

Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
More wasted draft picks by Gibbs & Co. Hopefully Zorn will be a little less generous with giving away the team's draft picks.
If the obvious involves taking a poke at the team, he's all over it.
I guess so. Can't really fault Gibbs for the move. We came so close in 05' and needed offense. The guy looked good in SF but who really knew what type of headcase Lloyd really was. Although I do think that giving draft picks away for right now players is not a good strategy. Think we're shying away from that but who knows with this draft. Is there anyone on the board you envision us trading up for? |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
Lloyd was a bad move from the start. It was no secret that he was a problem in the SF locker room. I guess teams always think they can turn around certain guys, but in the end the Skins got burned on this one. I'm just glad it's over with.
He got into a fight w/ JC or Portis?? This would've leaked out, don't you think? But I do agree with all of your points. He is just an ass with a real bad attitude. I was hoping he'd get it together but it's not going to happen here. I would bet his career is over. Now he can go on to making records. LOL!!!
Some little things did leak out here and there but overall Gibbs did a great job at keeping things like that in house. |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
Late 3rd round 2006 - Brandon Williams from Wisconisn who still hasn't caught a pass in the NFL. They then took Jay Moore from Nebraska who wne ton IR last year.
However the thing is our front office does a great job of picking players in the draft, especially in the later rounds. In my opinion those two picks could have produced a starter and a role player.
I just went back to look at who was available in the 2006 draft, just for kicks, and you want to see a real kick in the groin? Check this out: 119Denver (from Washington)Brandon MarshallWide receiverUCF So Denver got Brandon Marshall with one of our picks. You know, the same Brandon Marshall that had 102 receptions for 1,325 yards and 7 tds last year. That 6-4 230 lbs. guy who is the reason the Broncos can trade Javon Walker without giving it a second thought. Another thing to keep in mind when we start getting too cavalier about trading away picks .... YouTube - Brandon Marshall highlights |
Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
Did they get him as part of the Campbell trade or the Duckett trade?

Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
Did they get him as part of the Campbell trade or the Duckett trade?
Good question, actually. I guess it would be part of the Campbell deal right? I guess that makes it slightly easier to swallow. Redskins very likely wouldn't have drafted Williams there anyway, but it just places into relief the potential value of these picks. Cheap players who might actually turn into big time producers. |

It's tough to believe that simply because I can't recall the last time I saw a post from you giving praise to the team of any sort. You may think positive things about the team, but since you don't seem to post them, you come across very negative. |

Re: Redskins Release Brandon Lloyd
I'm glad it's over. Everybody knows this was a bad move by the team. I think this could be a lesson learned about ripping up a FA's contract when trading for someone. At the time BL had 1 year remaining on his deal.
It's really sad b/c BL does have alot of talent. I saw a highlight reel just the other day. The guy can make some amazing catches. He must be just a total jackass though. I'm glad we can move on though. |
